Is it not just a dilution of the original print run? so for example a run of 150 with 10 artists proofs surely just means a run of 160.
The AP edition of 10 still means the print is just one of 160 images. Not one of 10.
Why the higher valuation?
Is it the implied artist contribution to accepting the proof?
Sorry if this has been covered before but i was just wondering.
Maybe i should get out more.......Friday night 'n' all that.

Because AP's are. more often than not, unique prints that differ from the print run. So, you've got your exact same 150 copies that are the print run and you would have 10 different unique prints that make up the AP's.

This was the case more often than not, and in that case then being worth more is fully justified. Now they're more commonly just more prints... in some artist's cases (cough... D*Face) a lot more prints

A proof is presumably for the artist to say whether they are happy with the print. If they are happy with the proof then it should be identical to the eventual print run and if they are not happy with it then it should be less desirable to the eventual print run as it was not what the artist intended.
I dunno though.... i'm not an expert

That's what I always thought; I'd be prepared to pay more for an AP if there was a difference with the normail run, but f it's exactly the same print with the letters 'AP' added then it's not worth paying extra for IMO. Having said that, I'm not one of the people that gets excited by the number either, it's the image that I am buying.

A printer's proof is a copy outside the print run that is specifically for the printer's own collection.

I can say with almost 100% confidence that I have NEVER seen an AP sell at auction at a price equal to or less than the edition itself. Rather, if they hammer, they command a premium. Each artist may have a different definition of what a trial proof, artist proof, or printer's proof is for their body of work.

What print was that? The Creatrix was an edition of 200 Artist Edition (sold by the artist) and 200 Museum Edition (sold mostly by galleries). Mark has always been very good with listing every print of the edition on his Certificates of Authenticty. Im very surprised to hear he would produce as many Artist Proof's as the edition size.
I will say that Mark's originals are very hard to get if you are not a celebrity or friend. I flew out to the Tree Show opening and had been on the buy list since it was available, like a year out. I was in touch with the gallery and they knew I was flying 3000 miles to attend the opening, but I still was unable to get on the Friday night preview list. I was allowed in early Saturday and it was an amazing show but everything was already sold, as I thought it would be. No movie credits = no Ryden originals. Sorry for the rant.
