RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by ejvaze on Nov 24, 2007 23:02:16 GMT 1, What I want to know is WHY I chose the Teresa Wicksteed pic I mean I have NEVER seen her work nor did I know she was an artist there has to be something in my Genes to have picked a relatives picture.
I am dumbfounded
OK so not worth as much as the Hirsts etc etc But as always my collecting takes me to interesting places and interesting artists.

RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by danvnuk on Nov 24, 2007 23:16:25 GMT 1, Vazie - very strange. Sometimes really strange things happen....spooky ;D
Last week, I was driving to my parents I was on a roundabout - been that way a million times....straight over....and I went Left. The wrong way, for no reason at all, other than "something didn't feel right" - I was confused, I even started to say to my GF "Why did I do that?" and a car came flying round the inside and swerved across my lane - if I hadn't of gone left, they would have gone straight into me.
Oh - Ive checked and Stella Vine didn't even do a card - it was by someone else...seems my psychic crash avoidance luck doesn't extend to Art.

Don't underestimate the power of coincidence. I understand it's less satisfying (stops us being special) but more realistic. I was once in a bar in Laos when I ran into an ex -girlfriend. Not pre-ordained - just a coincidence - I fucked her mate...
Point being - when you pick up a phone and know who is going to be - wouldn't it be stranger if you didn't...?

He he, you shouldn't buy from Hirst really, he's the biggest flipper there is. See how many multiples he had under his arm after that insect show. ;D

RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by jam on Nov 25, 2007 8:27:28 GMT 1, Hello all. Absolutely knackered having slept about an hour and a half last night and then having to go off to a family thang almost straight after RCA secret. My best year yet. Got two Damien Hirsts... The buzz at getting the hirsts was f**king awesome though...
Genuinely thrilled for you Pez... slightly jealous, but happy for your good fortune none the less. I remember seeing an interview with Hirst where he talked about how much he wished he could do 2D work and what a challenge it was for him as a medium. You have a couple rare treasures now, hang onto them forever!

RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by goffy on Nov 25, 2007 13:36:40 GMT 1, But it's true and it's obvious.
Did anyone see the Independant On Sunday article about artists we will be talking about in the next century, big shock! Hirst and Emin are not among them. I doubt we will be talking about those talentless pair in 50 years never mind a hundred.
But it's true and it's obvious.

Oh dear. I'm sorry - you're right! If only someone had explained it so clearly before! I'd never thought about it like that.
Have you ever thought about lecturing? Your simple analysis of one of the 20thC greatest artists is truly awesome...

No, I really appreciate you making that effort. You're obviously not only one of the greatest and most learned art critics alive today, but a person of kindly disposition. I have no doubt that you bring happiness and joy wherever you go...
Please, I was wondering - would you help me with this list? Keep it simple, I am, afterall, a low browed moron so shit/not shit will do...
1. Picasso 2. Jasper Johns 3. Mapplethorpe 4. Koons 5. Gilbert and George 6. Dine 7. Michelangelo 8. Banksy 9. Da Vinci 10. Miro
I know you're probably busy with your charity work, helping orphans and old people but, just if you get 2 minutes...

It's fine to not like an artists work, but to say Hirst is s**t and won't be known in 50 years time just shows your ignorance dude, and to say anyone thinking different is a p*ick is just dumb. You're talking about an artist who changed the face of contemporary art in Britain for ever, his work is widely respected and appreciated by just about EVERYONE in the art world for a reason.. cos it's f**king great,.! You had to be dead to get any recognition before Hirst came along and shook things to their foundations. No Hirst = No Banksy probably
You're not Brian Sewell are you ?

RCA Secret - Anyone get what they wanted?, by pezlow on Nov 25, 2007 20:49:00 GMT 1, Goffy - I appreciate your view. For me though I thought that art was elitist and high brow and not for me until I went to one exhibition a few years ago. That exhibition was sensation at the Royal Academy and it totally blew my mind and opened my eyes to what contemporary art could do. Hirst changed the landscape of British art almost single handedly and for that I thank him.
I know you like Dan Baldwin and I believe that Dan cites him as one of his influences, as do countless other up and coming artists.
