Dublin..., by seidbereit on Mar 23, 2008 15:37:11 GMT 1, Really lovely hotel in Dublin is La Stampa www.lastampa.ie/ - not far from Grafton Street so good for shopping and bars, maybe 20 minutes walk to temple bar etc., but there's more to Dublin than just that. (But when you are in Temple Bar don't miss out on Urban Outfitters where anewspace is. Some lovely Banksy's there incl. signed Laugh Now and Grin Reaper).
Also not far from the National Museum, Trinity College and very close to St. Stephen's Green.
All the rooms are appointed very differently and really luscious. The missus will love it!

Dublin..., by Jef Aerosol on Mar 23, 2008 17:15:52 GMT 1, Go to a good traditional music session, avoid the tourist's traps... Try Merchants, maybe Brazen head, Cobblestone can be good though in trendy Temple Bar, O'Donoghue's is a Mecca but not what it used to be any longer, Slattery's doesn't have trad sessions anymore but the music shop next to it is lovely (capel street)... I know it's full of tourists, but if you've never seen Trinity College library, it's a must go : not only for the Book of Kells but also for the whole place. Have a drink at Mc Daid's only for the sake of being in quite a legendary place...

Dublin..., by dslug on Mar 23, 2008 17:32:01 GMT 1, Funster and Dave what age group are you guys,20s 30s 40s above ?
It would help in what bars or areas to recommend as bars in Dublin tend to have specific age groups that hang out there.Try to avoid temple bar if you can and try the bars around Grafton street or Dawson street or there abouts.
If you like trad then go with Jeffs suggestions as they can be pretty good sessions. The Westbury hotel is the one your wife will want but its so close to the major shops it wont be good for your credit card.Browns hotel is a really nice small boutique hotel over looking St Stephans green,if you book there then make sure you have a view of the park.If you stay in Brownes then try the Unicorn restaurant for lunch or dinner (its beside O'Donoghues that Jeff mentioned).

by the way the above has a does good food too and is close to both shops and bars,I can recommend it because I have stayed there
