The Ghetto Auction Results, by graeme501 on Jan 28, 2008 22:11:50 GMT 1, its was 15 small wooden towers, about 10" tall, carved out of wood
whether it was by banksy ( doubtful ) or his idea and carved by craftsman was not said
very nice tho and probably the piece of art that mostly related to bethlehem

They were carved by someone else... (salaman monseuir (spelling!) I think)... then "decorated" individually by Banksy

The Ghetto Auction Results, by ยฎat on Jan 28, 2008 22:24:29 GMT 1, I asked when I was over there.. 15 in total. They were designed, sketched and commisioned by banksy, and carved by a local guy (possibly the guy who carved the city with the watchtowers).
Several were left plain in just wood finish. The rest were decorated in collaboration with other artists- Paul Insect and Peter kennard being to that spring to mind..
They are ALL signed by Banksy, and the collab ones are signed by both Banksy AND the collaborating artist (although they were not signed at the ghetto but will be before the new owners get them)
And yes...I am lucky enough to have been successful with my bid for one of the collab ones

The Ghetto Auction Results, by stuey09 on Jan 28, 2008 23:31:12 GMT 1, Whilst I fully support the concept of the fundraising that occurred over there, I thought the towers were crap. Total and utter crap along the lines of a Blackpool Tower snowmaker.

Sorry Stu I have to disagree with you here Blackpool souvenir this ain't Bethlehem and Palestine this is. These towers may be the concept of Banksy and the product of a local craftsman but they are brilliant. I think it is important that they are actually the product of a local craftsman. They say nothing yet everything about the Palestinian situation. They are all about time and place a reminder of the fact that Israel is at war still, over the rights of land, after their land grab back in the late 60s. Graeme your sponsor a forum member here may well be very disappointed when he sees the tower he has purchased through you as I feel to get the true sense of the piece you really needed to have traveled out there. A lot of people will hate the towers but they were never meant to be beautiful but just like the wall itself a brutal and ugly reminder. I think these pieces said more than any other pieces at SG and I think Mr B is a genius, yet again he gets right to the heart of the matter and says it without any fancy decoration just simple and to the point.

The Ghetto Auction Results, by wezzley on Jan 29, 2008 15:44:05 GMT 1, here here, i think they are classic banksy....
I think that they are made of olive wood in particular should be pointed out here...its a fundamental part of the cleverness of them..
regarding him making/not making them....i see it as roughly comparible to the brass rats from laz or hirst having his army of people.

Towers carved by Tawfiq Salsaa...Wisam's father.
What I want to know is how much City of Sorrow went for... the carving of Jerusalem with the towers plonked in it. Also carved by Tawfiq from memory.
And The Death of Christianity...curious to see how much someone would pay for a Baby Jesus doll with a rock in it.
