Off the shelf frames, by jellya on Jan 6, 2008 10:29:30 GMT 1, For those interested, Habitat have got a good sale on. 20% off most of the frames (Birch, Copenhahgen) and 30% off those see-through Bacall frames that some have been posting on here.

Off the shelf frames, by Andy'77 on Jan 6, 2008 11:56:06 GMT 1, I've bought some Tribeca Nielsen frames before from fastframes.co.uk. You can cut a 15mm spacer from mount card and there a second slot in the frames for the spring clips that fits perfect (if you get what I mean). You can order on-line. You'd have to go for a 80x60 frame though to fit that but it'd fit quite nicely. I've also used Habitat frames in the past too which are decent.

Off the shelf frames, by Richard on Jan 6, 2008 12:06:49 GMT 1, Quick question! I have Liberty - Vaucher and I have heard many people say there is a Habitat frame which is perfect for it.
Please can someone link me to it as I can not for the life of me find it on their site. If possible could someone also post a pic so I can see what it looks like in the frame!? It would be really appreciated!
Rich.

The see-through Bacall frames don't use magnets but simply clamp the print between two sheets of glass which raises that whole print on glass question. But... I was really suprised to see in one of their displays that you could get a mount between the glass as well which solves the problem. It's what I did with mine.
The ones that use magnets (Bangkok) have an acrylic front rather than glass. I don't know where acrylic stands in terms of conservation and acidity etc. These frames wouldn't take a mount I don't think as the magnets would be forced too far apart. I could be wrong.

Off the shelf frames, by ryskip on Jan 6, 2008 13:40:58 GMT 1, Jellya, do have have any pics? I want to show the deckelled edge on my trolleys print by having it contrast with my painted wall behind which is why I'm interested in the see though frames. Would I still get this effect with the mount between glass?

Off the shelf frames, by jellya on Jan 6, 2008 13:41:13 GMT 1, Here's my Xenz in one of those see-through Bacalls. Mounted on the front so print is way from the glass. I think they work pretty well but def worth getting another pair of hands to help handle the glass this size.
Just gotta find a wall strong enough to take it and I'll be happy.

Off the shelf frames, by ryskip on Jan 6, 2008 13:48:00 GMT 1, Nice one, it looks sweet! +1 for helping. I guess I'd need a mount that's big enough to show the image and small enough to still show the deckeled edge but would it look stupid?

The mount would cover the deckled edge.
I haven't done it that way but themightyreds did with his Blek and Cept. Looked amazing imo.
See this thread banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=peoplesgallery&thread=1186691354&page=38

Off the shelf frames, by themightyreds on Jan 6, 2008 14:04:07 GMT 1, You could use a mount that doesn't go as far into the frame as the print, then mount the print to the rear piece of glass so that it isn't fully touching the front piece of glass. That way you are still getting to see the deckle edges, plus the print isn't fully sandwiched between the two sheets of glass. Haven't tried this but am fairly certain it'll work.! BTW, my prints are sandwiched and are still in the same condition as new. I do keep a regular eye on them though for any changes but so far so good!..

Off the shelf frames, by jellya on Jan 6, 2008 16:12:48 GMT 1, I 'think' the measurement refers to the internal frame within the glass i.e. the glass is much bigger than the measurement given. The glass on mine is about 89 x 68 and I think it was advertised to fit a 50x70 internal. They are very big ryskip.
You're definitely best off going into the store to see them and measure up. Also the white gloss frames are very prone to dings and dents, so you need to find the good ones.

Thanks bombshelter. Kind of you to say.
Very affordable mate. Frame was around the £30 mark, Mount a tenner. All you need are a pair of gloves and balls of steel when handling the glass.
Method as designed: Remove the backframe, lift out the glass at the back, put your mount down, print down, tissue paper behind print (optional), put the back glass back in (def 2 person job for a big frame), back frame fastened back in.
Stand back, crack open a beer and enjoy.
I've got themightyreds to thank for the inspiration to do it and some good advice.
Edit: These are 30% off at the mo. Bargainous.
