THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by bullet on Dec 18, 2007 21:54:22 GMT 1, What is it about buying a print - especially a Banksy - which makes you start to go mental.
Im sure its the only thing in the world, where a grown man goes through the enter credit card information section and fucks its up 3 times before he gets it right.
- IT STARTS WITH THE 'SHIT IVE GOT ONE'
- THEN ITS THE 'SHIT HOW DO I PAY'
- THEN ITS THE SHAKES
- CREDIT CARD NUMBER GOES IN AND YOUR FINGER ALWAYS MISSES ONE NUMBER
THEN WHEN YOU ACTUALLY HAVE GOT ONE, YOU GET THAT INSTANT FEELING OF JUBILATION AND FEELING SICK AT THE SAME TIME.
You cannot work out whether to go calm down in the toilet for a bit or go round telling the whole world.
I had it yesterday and its was fucking strange, but strangely addictive.
This is a pointless thread, but i know everyone has had it when buying something they really want which hardly ever comes up
;D ;D

THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by Bram on Dec 18, 2007 22:54:52 GMT 1, Bang on Pan - I got the SoS yesterday having failed on the trolleys. I don't have one mate who would understand - "it's only a picture mate" is all's you get. The misses just moans at the cc bill. Yesterday I was punching the air and wanted to go round shaking everyones hand - but had to be restrained because I didn't want to here "what - for a picture of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz" so just kept reading these threads - a place where EVERYBODY understands.
10 days plus of F5 and staring at a bloody brick wall - even when you go to bed you can't get to sleep thinking about the bloody Ghetto - but worth it in the end and the buzz well if you could bottle it the flippers would be buying it instead of just a picture of her out of the Wizard of Oz

THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by stradled on Dec 19, 2007 0:30:35 GMT 1, After going through the same stages as everyone else, I was at work and trying to keep it on the downlow.
1/ Managed to get the Banksy in the basket 2/ Enterd details and forwarded on to payment 3/ Entered payment details 4/ Brought up the summery screen - which includes the "Submit" button - WHICH I DIDNT CLICK AS I THOUGHT I WAS DONE!! 5/ Printed the page and went back to work.........
....Luckily I read the page again and hadent closed the browser, but I was sooooo damn close to missing out on it, that was an absolute heart attack special!!!! At least I didnt learn the hard way, clicked the button and order submitted, HAPPY DAYS!

There's nothing worse than a artist who doesn't love art enough to collect any art.

THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by Mrs Mouse on Dec 19, 2007 10:58:24 GMT 1, Pan, I'm with you on this one. It's that horrible feeling of knowing you've blown it if you make one false move.
During one release I managed to get a print in my basket and accidently kicked the power supply switch under my desk. It knocked the power off and my computer went down! The stress was unbearable. By the time I'd restarted my computer, they were all gone. The sickening feeling is still etched in my memory!

THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by Jef Aerosol on Dec 19, 2007 11:28:26 GMT 1, oh, i have stuff by other artists at home : things that I exchanged against some of mine, yes. But I've never really spent money on art... I spent money on buying records (but always "normal" prices), on travelling, on going to concerts and on buying a house and on ... life with my wife and kids ! I know it's a paradox, because I sell my art, but I've always had things on the wall that I don't buy or that are very cheap : concert posters, photos, old and odd things I find at the flea market, etc... For me, in the first place, painting on the street was a way of reacting against the art system, against the fact of going to galleries and spending money to see or have art... It was a way of saying : my museum is my record collection (I have more than 2000 vinyl albums and as many singles... but all bought at second hand prices, never at collector's item's crazy prices !), my art gallery is also my collection of gig tickets and posters, my huge collection of fanzines, all the photos, all the stuff painted or drawn on restaurant napekins with friends, all the stuff swapped with fellow artists, etc... And the street can also be some sort of free "art gallery" for everybody to see... The very definition of "pop" art (popular)... In the 70s, when I was younger and even more naive, I really believed in a world without money... I still have those hippie reflexes at times... Don't know if this makes any sense... I love painting on the street for the people who arent "into" art, who don't go to galleries or museum, who don't buy art and couldn't afford it anyway... Of course, I apreciate that some people want to take some of my stuff home with them if they are into buying art and if they can afford that. I'm even very proud and honoured. Don't misunderstand me ! But I've never been an "art buyer" myself... Also because I've never really been able to afford that... When you are responsible for a family etc, the money is usually spent on more "down to earth" bare necessities ! lol ! Actually, I have many friends who are artists themselves, and none of them buy art ! We swap etc... But most of them use the little money they have to pay the rent and put food into the fridge and dress and feed their families... And we tend to spend money on equipment too : canvases, paint, etc... And many have to find or keep a day job... I like making money with my art, but I don't feel comfortable with the fact it becomes insane and crazy for some people... I just don't understand how some people here spend half of their salary for a print ! (not even an original)... I believe this is in complete contradiction with what street art is all about ! (and the ones who spend 7000 pounds on a Banksy are the very same ones who say that 100 pounds is too expensive for a print by myself or other street artists who sell around that price !) It seems there is a bunch of extremely rich artists who sell stuff to very rich buyers... It's a bit too much apart from real life for me ! And so far away from art on the walls... In fact it's getting back to the very reason I started painting on the walls !!! If street art becomes a sum-up of capitalism at its worst, then i suppose we've missed the point somewhere... Of course, I'm very happy when a piece of mine gets sold, and i hope my prices can still rise a bit.... But when I see how much some people pay for prints, I'm at a loss ! It's so much ! When everybody says that there's a crisis, that joblessness and homelessness are getting higher and higher, etc... I guess some people really do have money ! I would never be able to spend that amount of money (on anything, in fact !)... I'm always shocked at how the rich always get richer and the poor get poorer...

THAT PRINT BUYING MOMENT..., by Jef Aerosol on Dec 19, 2007 19:49:31 GMT 1, I feel like an alien : I've never bought any print or any canvas ! lol ! (well, I do buy canvases : blank ones ! There's nothing worse than a artist who doesn't love art enough to collect any art.
how harsh and tough ! Well... maybe this raises a few questions : - what does "to love art" mean ? - what is an "artist" ? - what's the "function" of the artist in society ? - what does to "collect" mean and imply ? - What's the point of "collecting" ? You see, things aren't as simple as they may sound or look...
