Best courier?, by Montubu7 on Dec 12, 2007 12:53:46 GMT 1, Hi all
I need to post something of value to a buyer & was wondering who is the best courier to use?
The value exceeds RM special delivery insurance maximum.
The tube is also too large for RM.
I want to protect it even more, so maybe double tube so any ideas on the best people to use.
Not too fussed on postage cost as i want it to arrive in one piece
Cheers

Best courier?, by stephen on Dec 12, 2007 13:05:36 GMT 1, Having sent prints to America I've used D.H.L and they always seem to arrive fine. I also send items to Italy daily and never had huge problems... just be aware if you need it there in a hurry they don't deliver on weekends... even if they say they will.
Waldrons International are good if it is really fragile or over size.
hope this helps.

Best courier?, by robertlondon on Dec 12, 2007 14:53:38 GMT 1, I plan to send a POW print in a tube from London to Chicago.
DHL are quoting me ยฃ102 (something to do with the tube being larger than a regular parcel therefore they charge me at the 7kg rate???)
Then she says it might be cheaper if I had an account and sent over 6 parcels a year blah blah blah.
Well I'm just sending the one . . . but is that really the price they charge? Have I made a mistake somewhere?
Any ideas? Suggestions? Any help appreciated.
Cheers Robert

I know they use a volume calculation for odd shapes, long - thin, that kinda thing, which is fair enough really... does sound very pricey, when I used them it was only internal to UK so was actually about the same as RM, and DHL even picked it up, so cheaper really. For that price you could even look at getting insurance for it while in transit, if anyone does that (or maybe just backing a horse?) and double/triple/quad pack it and give RM a go?

Best courier?, by secretsquirrel on Dec 12, 2007 22:32:40 GMT 1, I get tubes sent from the UK to Australia, and Royal Mail International haven't let me down. They are a good price ( 10 - 20 pound) and have always arrived within a week. It all comes down to the quality of the toilet roll.

Best courier?, by krazy on Dec 12, 2007 23:48:23 GMT 1, My suggestion from a lot of experience receiving prints (and sending 4 or 5) is to NOT use UPS.
Out of 2 original pieces, and 2 prints that I sent with them, 2 have shown up damaged (one of the originals was damaged beyond repair). It has taken me close to 9 months to receive the insurance payout on what should have been a simple claim (they packed it themselves, but initially denied the claim because it was 'packed badly'!!!).
THe catch with companies like UPS is that they underwrite their own insurance, and they're not bound by the local insurance ombusdman agreemnts... so the only way to dispute a refused claim is to take them to court.
My suggestion is to use a specialist art courier service to take care of the packing/crating and sending. They'll probably use someone like FedEx to do the actual sending, but they insure it seperately through a proper insurance company.

Intracity maybe useful but intercity seem quite hefty! I just ran a quote from Salisbury, Wilts to Canterbury, Kent... should be fairly simple (southern town to soutern town), came out at ยฃ435.00!!!

Lol... I used the cheapest, on a bike.
Small van was ยฃ590 and a large van was just over ยฃ660. I don't think they have a business plan for outside of London.
