Mac OS X Leopard, by shogun on Nov 17, 2007 20:39:19 GMT 1, Didnt realise you can also load windows onto your mac with the new operating system. Great for running windows software - well more a case of transfering software ive already purchased. Why buy the s/w twice?
I think it will be a mac for my next laptop as Vista is a joke...Can't make your printer work - their advice buy a new printer...
As I'm a Mac freshie is Leopard as good as Apple thinks it is??

Mac OS X Leopard, by themightyreds on Nov 18, 2007 13:35:37 GMT 1, using the new OS at home fairly successfully so far... at work i haven't upgraded as i need the reliability but i'm working on my home machine all this weekend and so far so good...
Already the previous OS seems a bit out dated now to me. Did notice there's an update to it already though.

Mac OS X Leopard, by corblimeylimey on Nov 18, 2007 13:43:18 GMT 1, I've got 10.5 (leopard) unfortunately it doesn't work with my scanner and scanner software, and as scanning is my business I'm mainly running off 10.4 on my other HD. Everything else works just fine in 10.5 though and I'm sure it would be fine for most people my scanner software dates back to 2002 and both are very expensive hi-end specialist kit. If anyone from Fuji Film Electronic Imaging is reading this, please sort out a patch for Colour Kit 3.0.8 please.
In spite of the above, it's all very good, a few features like the Time Machine could be very good but I haven't got them working yet, I would upgrade with confidence but having said that 10.4 is fine.

Mac OS X Leopard, by themightyreds on Nov 18, 2007 13:47:05 GMT 1, Got the time machine thing going here to see what its all about and although it's a good idea it doesn't work like on the demo videos.... bit clunky. But, if you do lose that vital file it will probably be your best mate!

Mac OS X Leopard, by corblimeylimey on Nov 18, 2007 13:51:10 GMT 1, I agree with what you're saying themightyreds about 10.4 looking dated but that's only compared to 10.5

Mac OS X Leopard, by themightyreds on Nov 18, 2007 14:06:18 GMT 1, True CBL... wasn't till i was using Leopard that i thought that. Seems to be the way with things though until you use something newer and shinier, what you had before was doing the job just fine. Bit like with the new computers they make, my 4yr old Power Mac seem to do the job just as well as my 4 month old (and suposedly far superior) Mac Pro at work...

Mac OS X Leopard, by corblimeylimey on Nov 18, 2007 14:11:59 GMT 1, My G5 Power Mac is just over 4 years old too, I bought it pretty much at launch, holding up very well indeed, it chucks huge CMYK photoshop files around fine, I'm probably going to keep it for up to another year.

Mac OS X Leopard, by snapwolfe on Nov 18, 2007 14:57:47 GMT 1, I love my "old" G5 quad 2.5 and because i love it so much i dont feed it leopard just yet. i always reccomend waiting to update to the new operating system until X.X.3. By this time, the folks at mac have ironed out all the bugs and all the major software developers have made the patch updates to all their software. I did a test install of leopard and found a few bugs and lost ability to use 3-4 apps.

Mac OS X Leopard, by ray on Nov 18, 2007 16:38:05 GMT 1, I have a MacBook Pro and I can't recommend it enough. I've had it for a year and it runs 5-6 days a week and has never had a problem. It feels good just to say that
If only I'd switched to Apple a little sooner. I wouldn't still have that hole in my wall from my last PC. The last fatal error message I got WAS fatal...For Microsoft (and my wall).
Apple rocks.

Mac OS X Leopard, by cityman on Nov 20, 2007 12:15:50 GMT 1, Have a few Macs in my life. The Leopard 10.5 release was bad for my Intel Mac. The 10.5.1 release on Friday slightly improved on things, but frankly I think the way forward is a fresh install which I'm yet to do.
I would stick with 10.4 for now as it's stable and works really well. 10.5 has only been released now because of the impending hardware changes in the new year which in turn won't run 10.4.
Get ready for it all to be a little messy in 2008 my Apple friends

Mac OS X Leopard, by collector on Nov 20, 2007 12:58:34 GMT 1, Running Leopard at home and it rocks, I did a fresh install on a new Mac Pro and have had no problems. Time Machine is very slick, thought I would not use it as I already had a backup strategy but I've changed that in favour of Time Machine as you can restore your entire Mac if it all goes belly up. I won't be installing on my old G4 as I think there are too many visual effects that would drag the processor down. The new G5's have additional hardware to cope with the new OS demands. If you are going to install Leopard I'd recommend a fresh install and import your old account if required.

Mac OS X Leopard, by taktheride on Nov 26, 2007 2:02:05 GMT 1, i run leopard, and I use parallels to use windows for some work related apps. all works fine, however my M-Audio fast track Pro no longer works as the driver is for 10.4. but leopard is totally worth it. (running on a macbookpro 2.2ghz, 4 months ago)

Mac OS X Leopard, by slinkink on Nov 26, 2007 20:19:08 GMT 1, i run xp on a bootcamp partition and i also use vmware fusion to run it under virtualisation. when i need the speed and ease i run the bootcamp partition, when i just need to do something on the windows side quickly or have both mac os and xp running together i use vmware. i used to use parallels but personally like fusion more.

Was thinking of using vmware workstation. No experience with Fusion. What would you recommend?
