What is Street Art - Category Definitions ?, by uglyiq on Nov 27, 2007 17:10:47 GMT 1, POTY Awards reminded me of a question I'm aften asked and have no real answer for
If the style of work by Micallef, Francis, Denning et al is not Street Art what is it ?
'Urban' or 'Contemporary Urban' is a far too ubiquitous Marketing McNugget these days
and besides, it's historical association with Graffiti & HipHop Culture would make it better suited
to describe 'Street Art' than to describe a Micallef...
So any ideas for a Category Definer (that doesn't include the word "urban")

Just like any form of creativity from grassroots, agents, gallerys and money men need a box to put it in.
Call what you want, we all play our part and its quite beautiful (well most of the time!)

...& Bob1 I agree it's all pigeon holes (or pigion if you will) and no single word can ever hope to encompass it all but it does make it a lot easier to have a conversation with someone who's new to the whole she-bang if it can all be very roughly umbrella'd under 1 term (....though not so sure I can make an adverb from 'umbrella')
