Photoshop, by internetexplorer on Nov 17, 2007 12:11:02 GMT 1, Select the bit you want using the magic wand, you will need to adjust the sensitivity. Once selected you could either painbucket the whole selection or modify the selection with border, but remember to move the selected area onto a fresh layer first. alternatively you could select out the background and then inverse the selection. There's a million other ways too.

DO NOT USE POSTERIZE! It looks so very amateur and it is way overused. There is a time and a place for it, but seriously, it is severely overused!

Photoshop, by corblimeylimey on Nov 17, 2007 19:13:27 GMT 1, I agree with a lot of these comments, mainly that there's a million ways of doing the same things in Photoshop, and that really playing around and experience will give you the results, also the way you approach it will depend on the image eg the colours, contrast, subject etc I'm sorry if that doesn't really help but it will pay you to play with it. Try various channels, curves, selections (either by wand, or colour etc)

Photoshop, by Mrs Mouse on Nov 18, 2007 11:10:57 GMT 1, Check out your local Adult Education Centres. They often run short evening courses or Saturday workshops that go through the basics of using Photoshop. It's quite cheap if you are a student as you get a concession.
I'm doing a traditional photography course at the moment which runs for 12 weeks on a Wednesday evening and it's been really helpful. Our tutor is one of the teachers from the local university, so the standard of teaching has been excellent.
Hope that helps!

Photoshop, by lastpost on Nov 18, 2007 11:14:45 GMT 1, Yeh I work at a College and they run Photoshop courses - I might tag along. (They have just started charging staff...the cheek!) One of the art lecturers is trying to get me to go to life drawing classes - I think I should stick to the collecting!
