Why do you buy art?, by a4mnt on Nov 18, 2007 1:07:00 GMT 1, once you've drilled a hole in the wall and stuck a screw into it, it doesn't look too pretty,
i find that art covers it up nicely

Loads of reasons but I must admit that it has seemed to have replaced a gambling streak i once had. I love the bunfights. Thats why I don't dig the FairQ lottery I think. I like the buzz and the excitment of a release.
Otherwise i would be happy with framing Epson print outs of the pics on this forum and my photo's.

Why do you buy art?, by a4mnt on Nov 18, 2007 1:13:02 GMT 1, manty, bigman, thats what it is, isn't it. i've given up a lot of my vices and so you're right, this has replaced it.
its alright for me, i'm single. but half of you guys on here are married and have kids.
i've no idea what your families must make of you sitting on a forum until midnight. i suppose the same as my flatmates. at least its a cool forum, it could be worse, we could be discussing the thermal loss potential of RS232 cables or something exciting like that.
*** and as I'm writing that, Ranger brings up his gambling streak.
I must admit, i like the buzz of a release as well. gets the adrenalin flowing all day.

Why do you buy art?, by mydeaddogwontwoof on Nov 18, 2007 1:45:37 GMT 1, i gave up all my other addictions and this fitted my new one
Ha, i am the complete opposite!, i buy and sell art to fund my relatively new crack habit, i had my first pipe about 6 months ago and i must say, i really enjoyed it, since then i have become quite attached to it, the missus thinks i am mad sad, but, as i keep telling her, it gives me an interest, stops the kids stressing me out, and most importantly keeps me out of trouble, (its not as if i am going out mugging old ladies to pay for it, just buying up shed loads of highly sought after prints, and selling them for a 4-500% profit before i have even received them, (no harm done, everyone's a winner!)).

Why do you buy art?, by craigf on Nov 18, 2007 8:52:44 GMT 1, Extension of my already adictive personality trait where if I get into something I get into it big time. Main problem is this is by far and away the most expensive hobby I ever had, but on the flip side my walls look fantastic even if ppl at work have a big question mark about my pictures! Like some of the others posting there is a buzz whether you get something when released or an eBay bargain (eBay was already a minor addiction to me!)

Why do you buy art?, by lesbianwednesdays on Nov 18, 2007 12:27:53 GMT 1, i mainly started buying because i wanted to brighten up the walls a little but didn't want the same old crap from habitat, ikea or wherever. i looked up all my favourite graffiti artists to see if there was a piece that would be acceptable to put ip in the house and coupled with a lump of cash from me ma i was away.
bought my first print off ebay, then my second, then soon sold a print on ebay and bought a framed piece from a forum member and the addiction was well and truly in full flow. i've never ever bought anything i didn't like and wasn't going to put up but there have been a couple of sacrifices along the way. at the end of the day i would rather sell something than have it sitting in a sleeve or a tube with little or no chance of ever seeing artificial ambient light
i currently have four pices waiting to be framed which won't now happen until the new year so i won't be buying anything new until they are up and after that i will probably have to be one in one out.

Why do you buy art?, by graeme501 on Nov 18, 2007 14:41:24 GMT 1, i think a good mixture of all of the above, i mainly buy to put stuff on my walls, but do have a few in portfolio/tubes as i only have 4 walls ;D
the buying for long term investment is an added bonus on buyng something u like, it helps justifing spending so much money on art
i have no plans to sell any of my collection but at the same time, i know if something happens like laptop breaks/scotland qualify for austria/switzerland i have money tied up in prints that i could use to solve the problem

Why do you buy art?, by ejvaze on Nov 18, 2007 16:30:19 GMT 1, Why do I buy art?
Because it gives me a great deal of pleasure
I have been collecting art of all kinds for some time and my tastes over the years have changed. So for the first time this year I am selling just a few pieces of art which I have had for MANY years. I hate the idea of letting go but I am fed up with them them propped up on the floor in their frames and I would now like someone else to get as much pleasure from them as I have had. I am selling not for the idea of profit but just to make space on the walls for my real loves.
My Real Loves ? Well that has to be Bridget Riley and Banksy
I am very lucky that I own several pieces of art by both of the above and I have absolutely no plans to part with any of them. Together they look fantastic on my walls and I never get tired of looking at them.
As I said I collect for Pleasure, when I buy art it is because I LOVE it.
