My photography..., by headphonesex on Nov 7, 2007 19:05:18 GMT 1, I think the first two pictures would look much better in black & white. I find increasing the contrast & reducing the brightness a little is quite effective.

My photography..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 7, 2007 21:14:17 GMT 1, Good idea abdoujaparov about making it mono. The problem with the second one is that it's overexposed, the skin is totally burnt out to white, it's easier to underexpose and lighten up, but a overexposed burnt out image is unrecoverable, it's sometimes hard to tell on digital cameras if there's burn out but some have a highlight warning (the review image flashes black in areas of complete white burn out) then reduce the exposure until there's no burn out even if it looks underexposed afterwards, that can be remedied later.

My photography..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 7, 2007 21:34:58 GMT 1, Feel free, I'd suggest playing about with the Image>Adjustments area particularly Curves, Selective Colour & Shadow/Highlight, good luck, there's more than one way to get the same result in Photoshop but for me the Curves is one of the most useful.

My photography..., by pastiepie on Nov 8, 2007 4:33:38 GMT 1, what camera are you using? for the close-ups you need to focus on the nearest eye otherwise it just doesn't look right. Also try not using flash but a tripod/lower aperture to avoid the burst of flash on the face but pitch black background.
For photo tips I just went down to the local Borders and had a squizz at their books. I found that the newer digital focuessed ones were pretty rubbish. For tips on how to use your camera just read the manual, the best books are those that focus on composition.
The only photography book I've ever bought has been The Photographers Eye by Michael Freeman.
Me personally I always have my camera set on maximum saturation.

My photography..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 8, 2007 14:06:00 GMT 1, I've actually turned down the saturation on my camera to make everything colour accurate, I can always change it in photoshop if required. As for books etc, I self taught myself by reading Photography magazines when I was a kid, and then had some photography 'O' Level lessons in sixth form which included B&W developing and darkroom experience. Like anything the more you do it the more you'll know and these days what you do in photoshop afterwards is important too.

Couldn't agree more. digital retouching has become just as important in the photographic process
