The Mac virus..., by stillborncrisps on Nov 6, 2007 17:14:13 GMT 1, It's not that they can't get them, it's that no-one can be bothered to write one for Macs.
I think viruses used to be around back in the days of floppies, mac classics, and before PCs ruled the world.

The Mac virus..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 6, 2007 17:28:08 GMT 1, I've had a mac for well over 10 years and in all that time it's never had a virus, but just to be on the safe side I've got Norton Anti Virus, which has picked up on 2 suspect files, but they were pc viruses anyway.

true. as macs start to regain in the home computer market you will start to see more viruses developed for them.

I bet it's not as bad as running bloody Quark Xpress....ohhh that overpriced, underperforming, clumsy, bag-o-bollox piece of software makes me mad.

At least you can get it to install and run peasant... we've got a mac pro in our studio that just won't run it!. Identical machine to two others that run it perfectly. And the Quark helpline isn't really being that helpful !!

The Mac virus..., by mike hunt on Nov 7, 2007 16:33:08 GMT 1, I used quark for years and years and finally had enough of the bugs, non-existent customer service, ridiculous price, useless modifications which make things worse and lack of keeping up-to-date with industry needs. I too am an indesign convert. The latest one works like an absolute dream on macbook pro

The Mac virus..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 7, 2007 16:50:59 GMT 1, Adobe have achieved almost the impossible by taking Quarks massive market share away from them, Quark have only themselves to blame, it took them ages to come up with a version that worked in OSX, then it was too little, too late and too much money.

The Mac virus..., by mike hunt on Nov 7, 2007 17:48:58 GMT 1, +1 for you mr limey. Totally agree - we can only take so much crap from 'industry standard' software, until we jump ship to a better and cheaper equivalent.

I agree I used that peice of sh*t for years but ditched in favour of InDesign at version 1, never looked back. I just wish Quark would roll over and die. Oh and as far as virus's on the Mac go, you have to enter your administrator password in to allow the virus to install itself. How many people are going to fall for that, I think that is the main reason nobody bothers to write virus's for the Mac is that most Mac users aren't that stupid.

Adobe will porobably rule the world in the near future. I have the full CS3 suite (indesign, photoshop etc etc on my macbook including the new dreamweaver and flash. It's fucking seamless integration between all prgrams. insanely easy to work with and just a miracle to navigate.
Quark is obsolete.

The Mac virus..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 7, 2007 19:24:40 GMT 1, I haven't used Quark professionally for over 4 years now, I really just need Photoshop for what I do now so I'm out of touch on InDesign too. I bought PS CS2 but I won't upgrade to CS3 until I've got an Intel Mac. The full suite does represent really good value for money compared to the individual packages.
There's a massive price difference between the UK and US editions.
From Adobe site...
Creative Suite 3 Design Standard... US site - US$1,199 (ยฃ575) UK site - ยฃ1,051 (US$2,191)
Full version of Photoshop CS 3 UK site - ยฃ569.88 (US$1,188) US site - US$649 (ยฃ311)
So we're paying more for PS on it's own than the US users pay for the whole suite (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat professional), this really isn't on, does anyone know (just for example) if one of our US friends bought the suite and then posted to us (full value not declared) would it work on the British macs? (or would you have to switch to US system)
Anyone have any experience of this?

The Mac virus..., by corblimeylimey on Nov 7, 2007 20:37:22 GMT 1, As I use it professionally I think it's fair to pay for it and be all legit and licensed up, but I don't think it's fair to pay double the US price.
Jaypaav, have you got Toast? if so the way to make a copy is to select copy, check Disc Copy (at the left hand side) then File>Save As Disc Image. When that's complete click Disc Image (at the left hand side) then drag the saved disc image to the main Toast window, and BURN!
