Banksy is the fist artist I know of that portrayed ordinary objects from modern life protruding from the ground--in both his vandalized canvasses and his installations (not just glastonbury, but also the phone booth in the ground at the LA show).

Yeah, I guess I never thought about that as art; my dad has been getting Car and Driver since the 60's, and I remember seeing that thing in context of it being "car art" which is really just car lovers having a laugh. Good call though!

Also the mutoid waste people at glastonbury have been making strange sculptures out of metal objects for years... if anything Banksy's toilet henge was a copy of their henge made of cars.
