What a shame, by Deleted on Dec 17, 2009 23:26:06 GMT 1, love, thanks for posting this.
This judge is, without a doubt, out of control. i've seen some sessions in court, and never seen anything like this. Even with more severe (abuse) crimes. I can't believe the guy will be locked up for 8 years. He is 18 year old, he needs to be in the world, being behind bars from his 18th till 26th will damage him for the rest of his live.
I know I'm from Holland, and we might have some other morals than other people do, but this is beyond every limit.
poor guy. Wish I could do something for him

What a shame, by junta on Dec 18, 2009 1:07:18 GMT 1, 8 years!!! That judge wants checking, see how angry she got? I thought judges were supposed to maintain a level of impartiality!? Chances of a young guy like that coming back out after 8 years inside and being a functioning member of society have got to be near zero.

What a shame, by sand on Dec 18, 2009 10:25:50 GMT 1, That judge is an absolute disgrace.
Surely a strong community service punishment and fine would have sufficed.
Feel bad for the guy, everyone makes stupid mistakes and his will have cost him 8 years of his life.
Wonder if there is any room for appeal? Surely a petition with everyone chipping in a few bucks for a decent lawyer could help?

What a shame, by Daniel Silk on Dec 18, 2009 13:15:04 GMT 1, Going by that performance by the judge she's after a TV show Judge Judy style.

What a shame, by Balboa on Dec 18, 2009 19:44:18 GMT 1, Although I completely agree that 8 years is somewhat harsh, it's amazing how sorry some people are once they've been caught. I wonder if he'd not been caught would he have been as reformed as those character witnesses suggest? I doubt it, he'd still be out there doing exactly the same thing now.
As the old saying goes "If you can't do the time don't commit the crime".

What a shame, by cfellowes on Dec 24, 2009 10:08:34 GMT 1, I agree that 8 years is ridiculously harsh. Where should the line be drawn between tagging and graffiti. At some point, graffiti becomes art, surely?? Tagging is merely saying 'i was here'.
This article indicates that the sentence was reduced to 2 years: rawstory.com/2009/12/eight-year-sentence-graffiti/
