Outside Tate Modern: Photos, by gozgoz on May 23, 2008 10:15:59 GMT 1, i dont get that line by Blu. And i guess i dont know enough about this and i dont have enough background on why he wrote that but it seems like poor taste to me. Nissan comes along, sponsors this event, working with tate and allowing and sponsoring all these artists to paint on the tate, and you go write something like that?!?
bite the hand that feeds, no?

Blu didn't know about the sponsorship deal when he accepted the invitation from the Tate. When he found out he wasn't happy about it. Studiocromie can probably fill in the details.

if he wasnt happy, he could have backed out, no? he could have just not done it. if he was so unhappy about it.
besides, he shld have been unhappy with tate for not telling him, as opposed to Nissan, who probably provided him with the paint etc etc.

youre clearly upset by this. do you own Nissan? calm down dear its only commercialism.

im not upset about the nissan bit if you read my entire chain properly dude. im annoyed that blu bit the hand that allowed him this fantastic opportunity.

Outside Tate Modern: Photos, by doublehelix on May 23, 2008 12:19:22 GMT 1, I don't agree with Ben Lewis, it's fine to say that he doesn't like the artwork but to then go on to essentially exclude it from the cannon of art is arrogant. Although I do very much enjoy Ben's art docs on BBC 4, the Art Safari about Maurizio Cattelan was genius.

Ben Lewis might think its dumb but doesn't really explain why.
"It's telling that people who take this art seriously usually avoid thinking too hard about the subject matter."
Surely the exact opposite is true.

it would explain NW`s current fame and high prices though

Outside Tate Modern: Photos, by cubrik on May 25, 2008 18:25:45 GMT 1, Banksy was unavailable for comment, but a source close to him was as cagey as the Tate's curator, first denying that he'd been approached and then adding, perhaps a little more truthfully: "Isn't the exhibition sponsored by Nissan? Street Art is not supposed to be sponsored."
Banksy's absence does not reflect well on the museum or the artist. The Tate's first ever Street Art exhibition should undoubtedly have featured Britain's world-renowned leading artist of that genre.
Banksy, with his unprecedented public profile, his use of the British media and his commercial ventures - like the exhibition he held in Los Angeles where he sold millions of dollars of his art to Hollywood celebs, more on which later - has no good reason not to play ball with a public institution-which has done so much to bring art to a wider public. I'm not Banksy's biggest fan - but I missed him.
i wonder who source close to him is??

Outside Tate Modern: Photos, by GimmeStreet on May 29, 2008 16:21:03 GMT 1, Popped down at lunch time today
There were MASSIVE crowds of tourists all snapping away on their camera phones
I asked a policeman who looked like he was trying to keep the order what he thought of it all and he said he really liked it.
