Help needed with Royal mail, by Deleted on May 16, 2011 23:54:48 GMT 1, Can anyone help me please?
This is the problem:
I sent an item to Japan and the buyer sent it back saying it was damaged. I filed a claim, but Royal mail are now saying they do not pay compensation for art sent to Japan, as sending art to Japan is prohibited.
The only thing i can think of is that if the item was damaged before leaving the UK, then i might have a case. but proving it got damaged in the UK or Japan is going to be hard. Please PM me with anything that might help me fight royal mail over this. Thanks

i could not believe it either. Not sure if its just hand made art. but the letter states "as your item contained goods that are prohibited or restricted by Japan, I'm afraid i cannot compensate you for your loss"

I can get it repaired, but i wanted the cash.
i will be filing an appeal later in the week. But if anyone knows anything that might help with my appeal, please let me know.

Would say you're right, good point.
Have to say, really surprised by this. Is this some policy Royal Mail has (and potentially with other countries too), or is this an restriction that Japan are enforcing?

Only that
'Books, drawings, sculptures and other articles that are considered to injure public safety or morals' are prohibited.

I would ask Royal Mail for clarification and reconsideration about not paying out your claim.

The law on pornography is very tight in Japan and it is without doubt that this is what the restriction relates to (despite japanese comics featuring young looking teenagers engaging in sex and it not being restricted or deemed peadophilic).
