Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by mothegrass on Jun 4, 2011 21:00:31 GMT 1, ive done it recently and it was a nightmare, the us has a thing called homeland security programme, basicly they hold your print for a long time to do checks, it took a month to complete the deal, i used dhl but it was not their fault,, they are a good company its the yanks and their paranoia, good luck anyway

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by hlarmy on Jun 4, 2011 21:35:47 GMT 1, I have recently used flight logistics - what they do offer is excellent customer service and they are very reliable; what they don't offer is insurance which is a must for any high value items. I would stick with the big guns, and for convenience would use Mail Boxes etc (MBE), who can arrange couriers through DHL, Fedex etc. I recently got a quote through MBE, including insurance, for c.ยฃ160, although they do inspect the packaging etc prior to sending. Alternatively, and probably a cheaper option, is to just go direct through the aforementioned companies...

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by Zippy on Jun 4, 2011 22:25:16 GMT 1, I have recently sent a piece and had 2 large originals from the US all through flight logistics. They are brilliant and keep you fully informed throughout. Recently sent apiece to a forum member in Switzerland. Swiss customs are notoriously difficult and required lots of paperwork and forms. Again FL sorted everything out for me. 100% recommendation.

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by gibbin82 on Jun 5, 2011 20:37:42 GMT 1, Thanks for all the replies and Flight Logistics look favourite, but searched for then on t'internet and there appears to be more than one by that name and I cant seem to find a page to arrange a shipment, so anyone point me to the correct phone number or an online booking page link. Sorry for being a bit dense on this one

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by Brushstrokes 75 on Jun 9, 2011 20:25:30 GMT 1, Fedex also delivers in the US in 24h working day (most of the time)!
I learned something today which might be helpful to other people.
I was starting to seriously fish for art insurance asking quotes. I was mostly interested in the transportation feature (which many of you understand, most courriers don't insure art over a certain amount... hence the importance of courriers like flight logistics). Anyway, I'm considering different options but I got informed by one of the company that they could sell the transportation feature separetely from the art insurance package.
It can be a good alternative for people buying/selling/moving pieces & it might come cheaper than going through specialized art courriers all the time. So it might be worth asking to your local insurance broker...

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by bsimkin on Jun 9, 2011 21:23:04 GMT 1, they have agents out in the US and can easily arrange collection and delivery to the UK.
Are you referring to Flight Logistics, Zippy?
I'm trying to send a reasonably small OG back to an artist in London to have restored. So far, I've checked with the main carriers here (fedex, dhl, ups) and they all want silly money ($250).
The united states post office can do it for a lot less, but they won't be able to fully insure the piece.
I'm looking into having a friend or family member traveling to London to hand deliver it to the artist. Might be my best bet.
Any advice from forum members that have sent from US to UK, please chime in. Thanks!!

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by kjzimm on Jun 9, 2011 21:55:59 GMT 1, I did the same research and ended up using USPS because the other carriers wanted crazy $$$. I was sending a free exist poster to a forum member and wasn't too concerned if it was lost. It made it just fine.
I'd like to know what you find.

Sending prints from the UK to USA advice required, by impossibilia on Jun 23, 2011 14:37:55 GMT 1, I just used Flight Logistics to ship two pieces from London to New York. I can't recommend them highly enough. Pieces were expertly packed (custom wood crate, padding, tape over the glass, etc) and all went smoothly. Highly recommended.
