Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert, by sal on Jul 20, 2011 23:38:24 GMT 1, the guy takes tagging to a whole new level!..
Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert so big it can be seen from SPACE
The name is two miles across โ with letters a kilometre high. It is so huge that the "H", the first "A" and part of the "M" have been made into waterways.

Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert, by Coach on Jul 21, 2011 0:51:35 GMT 1, Interesting, but (god, sorry, I am going to sound like a real bore now), with famine declared today in parts of Africa, isnt spending money like this just a tad obscene just now? Unicef were on Radio 4 today asking us to donate ยฃ10 each as it will make a real difference. It will save lives, they said. I wonder how much this cost. Imho of course. No disrespect meant to the original poster. c

Spot on Coach. Also the fact that 20% of UAE live below the poverty line.

Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert, by sal on Jul 21, 2011 8:42:34 GMT 1, totally agree with you coach...
I wasn't posting this thinking its a great idea and everyone should do it.. actually, the 1st thing I thought when I saw it, was how much he messed the ecosystem of that coastline with his useless project... I just thought its in a strange way related to graffiti/tagging, so wanted to share the info...
was in UAE myself, and that place is far from being one of my fav places in the world on ANY level...

Actually I disagree. In a perfect world where everybody share with everyone, you are right. But unfortunately this does not work this way. Actually we do not know what he do with his money, he might already give a lot to charity. If ยฃ10 can save a life, isn't it obscene us spending thousands of pounds in art? For example, a Matt Small would save 200/600 lives... No because everybody do what they want with their money. I give to charity and buy things for my own selfish pleasure, it is just a matter of scale here (as obviously I do not have billions of pounds...).

Billionaire sheikh carves his name in desert, by johnnyh on Jul 21, 2011 11:09:08 GMT 1, The UAE of which he is part of the Royal Family both as a govt and individuals give hugeamounts of money to africa and many nations who are in trouble.
Their refugee aid tents for trouble spots are quite renowned. In these facilities they also spend a huge amount of money employing western docs to work on them.
With regards to miss treatment of workers the govt actually has quite strong policys however it is the contractors who do not. Many of these contractors - (guess where they come from) are from the UK and they do treat their workers quite poorly with poor facilities, pay and use very unscrupolous labour suppliers who takeloads of money from the workers.
The UAE looks after its own people very well. It is ok with expats and you can do wellthere but you live by their rules etc.
Not saying I like what he has done. regardless of what it says they are selling and building water based properties. Same as the Palm in dubai. abu Dhabi has loads of these natural Islands.
Not saying it is a good or bad thing but take out the Hamad bit no different to Canary Wharf really. no its not an island but a way of selling water based proporties.
Massively proven that money will not solve africa;s problems. A complete rethink is needed there. Although i fully agee with the thought.
