Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by Deleted on Aug 5, 2011 13:45:46 GMT 1, I'd say basically the print is destroyed.. Of course you can cover this under a passe-partout or anything like that, and the image is still intact, but the value of the print is only determined by what someone wants to give for this.. this was a great print, but I would not even consider buying this, let alone for more than 100 gbp

It's not that bad.
There is no way of knowing how many of these early prints are still in existence, and as such this should be seen as valuable. In the early days they were seen as elaborate posters, and I for one had my first three early prints in clip frames. I doubt if I was the only one on here to have done so.
If I was buying this I'd try for a couple of hundred pound off, but to say it's destroyed is a bit strong.

but what would be reasonable? any comparable pieces that sold? with equal damage? just doesnt work for me..

Each to his own, and as you said at the start 'the value of the print is only determined by what someone will give for this'.
It's certainly not as when purchased, but if I was in the market for an early print I wouldn't dismiss this out of hand just because of a slight discolouration.
I wouldn't be surprised if about 20% of these no longer existed, making this worth having. But the slight defect would get me to ask for a reduction in the price.

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by Michael Jacob on Aug 5, 2011 14:16:19 GMT 1, It hurts the value, but I would still buy it. Its tough to say what its worth other than the old saying "its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it." Having said that, I would estimate 400-500 Pounds. I also agree with above posts on looking into paper conservators. They can do some great stuff. I have a BME what was repaired and they did a great job. Strike a deal and enjoy! If not, PM me and Ill haggle with them.

But obviously its only worth what someone is willing to pay & only available at what the owner is willing to accept. Thanks I will send the owner the resto link
Interested though ... WHAT WOULD YOU PAY ?

Yeah, more likely framed with standard glass and hung in direct sunlight (UV damage). The areas where the matting was looks to be the only parts of the print that have been protected.

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by craigf on Aug 5, 2011 14:22:45 GMT 1, It won't work for some, might for others. I bought a slightly damaged print that had been mounted due to creases, price was circa 20% below market at the time. You couldn't see the problem when on the wall and it doesn't bother me as I knew in advance what I was buying. I guess similar for this with a mount other than it is a different colour to it was originally. There will be others on here who will have a better view than me re restoration options

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by rperry on Aug 5, 2011 14:23:34 GMT 1, It's hard to tell from the image provided. That print looks like the paper aged with light, etc. but the acid free mount protected edges. (were they using cheap paer for those in '03?)
It seems to me you can get the paper bleached, but the complication may be the banksy tag. Is that a rubber stamp? Or obvious solution is that if you purchase it, you are forced to mount it the same way.
If you don't want it I'll talk with the seller

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by skitchy on Aug 5, 2011 15:16:16 GMT 1, Damm is that what the australian sunshine does to prints??
If the seller is offering it cheap I would 100% buy that! easily repairable and would still look great in a new frame.
You RARELY see these badboys anymore!
Wonder if PC woud be funny about authenticating?

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by daveart on Aug 5, 2011 15:22:36 GMT 1, 2cents. i have a bar code and was surprised when i received it .. the paper is actually a light cream color .. definitely not a white white if that makes sense. I would really want to know if the main image had faded or there was something around the edges that damaged it. ie. whats damaged. the border or the main print.
it might be impossible to tell without another pristine print sitting next to it to find the true paper color. or.. my suggestion.. turn it over and look at the back. that should have the original paper color evenly across.
anyway, i'll put in with the group that sees that long term this print still has value... i think Jean P was selling one recently around 2,000 GBP .. so maybe less than half that to allow for damage and preservation costs?

Mount clearly protected the border but the main image suffered the UV hit! would be interesting to know if it can be restored and what the cost would be

Discoloured Barcode : Price Check, by Rolex on Aug 5, 2011 20:38:47 GMT 1, I'd bet money on this selling for ยฃ1500+, i think there are a lot more people out there who don't care about the fading & would simply frame it as it was before, simply to put it on the wall as it was intended to be, & enjoy this great print. PS.I've had quite a few beers the misses is in London ( live on the south coast ) so I can argue all night. Cheers.
