Village Underground - London - The Wall, by stillborncrisps on Oct 17, 2011 23:24:30 GMT 1, Props for denying 'big money offers from advertising companies', but doesn't putting large format prints of artists' works behind glass and releasing prints not just make them adverts in themselves?

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by Dan Kitchener on Oct 18, 2011 8:26:11 GMT 1, hmmm, i am unsure whether this is good or not, i liked the idea this space was a painting spot only, it now becomes just another advertising space, rather than a great public [painting spot!?

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by Daniel Silk on Oct 18, 2011 10:22:53 GMT 1, I would have it so the whole wall gets painted every few months, and then maybe have big screens in those holes so the artwork can be changed everyday! Or every few hours even.
If its just like posters people are gonna start seeing it as just another advert.

Personally I think that would look more like advertising with screens. People already paint it, so I cant see the issue with hanging a canvas or photograph.... its still actual art and they never once mentioned posters from what I saw.

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by chambres on Oct 18, 2011 14:48:17 GMT 1, I'm well behind this...backed all the way! Feels like its bridging the gap between gallery and street for me.
Be a shame if this didnt get the funding it needed. Come on guys, make it happen!

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by villageunderground on Nov 7, 2011 15:38:17 GMT 1, Hi everyone, thanks for taking an interest in the project. We thought we'd just clarify a couple of things that some people weren't sure about...the aim of the project first and foremost is to promote artists, and to open up the space to a whole host of different art forms. "Bridging the gap between gallery and street"...that's exactly what we're aiming for. We want to keep a constant flow of work going, and there will still be plenty of wall space for the street art that has populated the space for the last few years. All in all, we want to make sure that it's a platform for artists from as many different disciplines as possible to gain exposure, and possibly make a little dosh while they're at it. As you probably know, VU is a not-for-profit organisation, and we'd rather preserve the space for talented artists than lose it to some advertising giants.
Thanks again for your thoughts and keep spreading the word!

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by curiousgeorge on Nov 7, 2011 17:22:34 GMT 1, I can see plenty(possibly the minority these days) of artists saying this goes totally against why they started painting on the streets, might go as far to say the screens could be targeted and dogged
As for bridging the gap, digital cameras/camera phones and the internet have been doing that for years

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by tobaum on Nov 13, 2011 17:09:33 GMT 1, I think it's a good idea. A gallery in the street. I don't see why street artists will be piss off, it's a project concerning this wall; not every wall in the city. It is nice to see something different. Specially nicer than billboards.

All depends on the donation you made. Mine grants me a limited edition A3 B.Eine's "Vandalism" print + my name etched into a brick in The Wall + 4 postcards ;-)

We're a small team and it can be hard to keep on top of everything. Dan & Auro are currently trying to sort out the Kickstarter pledges so you should hear from them within the next few weeks. All the best, Amelie"

Village Underground - London - The Wall, by letiss on Nov 9, 2012 21:25:07 GMT 1, Walked past today and there appeared to be on "The Wall" a Microsoft advertising campaign. Maybe it was going to change into a witty street art stunt, but it appeared to be a proper MS advert. If it is how does that match up with the non-commercial Wall?
