Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by brendan1985 on Jan 22, 2012 6:45:01 GMT 1, Hi guys i have recently received my black kawsbob witch i purchased through a ebay. The print was shipped to me rolled in a tube, witch according to the seller this is how he received it direct from the gallery? Apparently half were rolled half were packed flat? As i hope you can tell from the photos i was quite disappointed to notice there was thin horizontal lines across the whole of the print. These are only really noticeable in direct light. I would like any theorys people may have on what might have caused this, and if anyone has had the same problem. Thanks in advance.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by Deleted on Jan 22, 2012 7:18:48 GMT 1, That really sucks. I would ask for a refund. I received mine flat and did not have any of those lines.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by Phear Loathing on Jan 22, 2012 7:59:38 GMT 1, as frustrating as it can be to sell on ebay, their buyer protection is pretty superb these days.
I would tell him you want a refund asap and return it to him. Or if you can live with the damage request a substantial amount back.
If it indeed was caused during shipping, hope he paid for insurance. Regardless of insurance, that is not your problem.
If he insists on getting insurance settled then paying you back don't fall for it. He can work that all out with the company of the broken sponge bob.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by brendan1985 on Jan 22, 2012 9:46:25 GMT 1, Thanks phearl Luckily there was insurance taken out on the print, witch will hopefully make this process a little more manageable, I am pushing for a partial refund as it was shipped internationally i had to pay customs and duties on my end so even if i got a 100% refund and shipped the print back i would still be a few hundred dollars out of pocket with nothing to show for it.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by Zippy on Jan 22, 2012 13:01:03 GMT 1, I believe these were all shipped flat from the museum. This is why some buyers waited a while to receive them as they only sent out a few a day. Looks like your seller "tubed it" to save a few quid on the postage. Email the museum if you think some went out in tubes.
If I was you, return it as your easily find another.
A print this delicate will look cracking framed up. But the marks will always irritate you. Is it on a thick stock? These were never meant to be rolled!

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by afroken on Jan 22, 2012 13:04:55 GMT 1, I would open an eBay dispute as well just to cover yourself. It will give the seller deadlines to sort it out - 8 days to issue a refund I believe before you can escalate and then eBay will ask you to return the print and once receipt is confirmed through tracking they'll refund you and then charge the seller themselves.
With proof of having returned the item you can claim your VAT back too.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by brendan1985 on Jan 22, 2012 13:58:40 GMT 1, I was also under the impression that they were all shipped flat from the museum. I have sent them an email and i will hopefully hear back from them when they get into work on monday. I just doesn't make sense that they would not package them all the same way. The paper is about standard thickness but the paint seems very soft and thick to get that super clean matte look. I know what you mean about the fact that it will always bug me. I had also planned on getting this framed with museum glass to cut out all the glare witch i think is almost a must when we are talking about a all black print. The problem is that the lines are only sometimes visible when dislayed in a certain light and looked at from a particular angle. But i guess the point is they are there. Thanks ken, Thats a good point about the refund on the VAT, I will around tomorrow to see if this is the same in Aust. I imagine it would be. Thanks for all feedback so far. I feel much better about the situation. I would also be interested to know if anyone thinks the lines could have been caused any other way beside shipping. Can this be a results of the printing process? And maybe it slipped through QC

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by hlarmy on Jan 22, 2012 14:46:03 GMT 1, I would be very very surprised if any were sent in a tube; this is not a print that can be rolled. It's very delicate and shouldn't be touched and certainly not rolled. I hope it all gets sorted Brendan...

Agreed. I'm definitely gonna take mine out of the packaging now just to double check.

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by sohohoho on Jan 23, 2012 11:09:12 GMT 1, Yeah, although this print shouldn't be rolled, the damage you are referring to wouldn't have been caused by that fact. I'd say the seller knew about this before he sold it, hence why he sold it. Like freeview says, the lines are consistent with corrugated cardboard. This indicates the print was flat-packed at some point, maybe without surface protection? If the seller said he received it tubed, he's either lying or you're the third owner

Black Kawsbob. Please Help!, by brendan1985 on Jan 23, 2012 12:53:18 GMT 1, Defiantly not the third owner. It was shipped to me soon after the release date. I have only just received it due to being held up in customs for a few weeks and some other issues regarding customs. The damage is to the point that if it was only looked at briefly the damage would be easily go unnoticed. I had the print out on my desk for nearly a day of admiring before i noticed the lines, and now i know there there i can no unsee them The corrugated cardboard theory makes sense but i just don't know when and where this would have happened. Although the fact the print was rolled is pretty annoying in itself, If there was no damage what so ever i would have thought much of it. Thanks for all the help so far.
