Trouble in PayPal Land?, by pcant on Feb 25, 2012 2:55:19 GMT 1, I had no idea the auction site that dare not speak its name (eVoldemort, perhaps?) and PayPal were doing this. Pretty unseemly, and it sounds like the backlash is already growing. But in case anyone else hadn't heard about this, here you go:

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by searchandrescue on Feb 25, 2012 12:46:05 GMT 1, the noose tightening on the internet that we all thought was some sort of nirvana, SOPA, ebay, pay-pal and google. Why are rights in the offline world built up over centuries eroded in the blink of an eye online without investigation?? Compliance seems to be lagging behind the development of online products and services; then a huge retro active knee jerk reaction, not the first and won't be the last.

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by mayhem on Feb 25, 2012 21:21:08 GMT 1, All it takes, is for a buyer to order an item. Pay through paypal. Item is delivered signed tracked etc. The buyer then opens a 'case' against the seller saying a few words, "tube or box Empty". No more explanation needed. eBay refunds the buyer and f**ks you, the seller. Years of happy dealings and happy customers and Boom, you got an untrustworthy account. The buyer is always protected and it needs to be changed. Its not a safe place to trade anymore and have been put off selling anything. That's my opinion. B**tards..

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by simonf on Feb 26, 2012 0:12:42 GMT 1, well if you mark the item as "pickup only" the paypal invoice is not sent out automatically.
You can ask for payment the way you want. And of course you can also send it once you have the money.

Is that really all it takes now? Pretty bloody crap if that's the case. Although I'm not surprised.
I seem to remember having to sign some kind of eBay declaration recently which gave them permission to take money direct from my bank account if a case is opened. Without agreeing to it it looked like I could no longer trade on there What the fook is that all about? What happened to innocent till proven guilty and all that? I wouldn't mind but I've been selling and buying from that site for about 13 years now. Another ebay thing that pisses me off is the new feedback rating system. I've had one negative in all those years (pretty recently as it happens) but for some reason I'm now on 97% and as I'm not selling much my feedback percentage is going down month by month. Makes me look like a cheating dodgy crook despite a rating of 900 odd positives. I recently had one little shit on there with next to no feeback making threats to damage my feedback and star ratings unless I added a few extra little things to his winning item. In fact it's happen twice as that's how I got my recent neg in the first place, I couldn't even return the favour! This is what ebay has now become.
I'd love to know an alternative to fleabay as I pretty much despise using them these days. They seem to get more and more expensive on a month buy month basis too.
As Mayhem says it all seems to be orientated around the buyers yet it's the now unprotected sellers that bring in their income and make the site what it is.They should remember that.

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by easycraig on Feb 26, 2012 1:18:47 GMT 1, -my buddy just experienced this 21 day hold from them.... - but check this out...
he orders 3 prints from an artists website, - he does not have the funds to cover the prints in his paypal account, so the funds are automatically withdrawn from his checking account that is linked to his paypal account ( no problem at this point, and he has plenty of funds in his checking account to handle the order ) . Then, the artist refunds the total amount stating the usual (too many orders for actual product.... have to refund several of the orders, my friend, being one of them) . ( here come the problem ) - Paypal then puts a 21 day hold on the funds that comes back from the artist!!!! lol
-so he cannot access his funds ( that actually came from his checking account ) for 3 weeks!
-that is 3 weeks of interest on his money they are going to collect.... and he did nothing wrong! complete bullsh!t !
I would avoid paypal at all costs if possible... (start using your credit card on purchases) ec

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by simonf on Feb 26, 2012 1:18:49 GMT 1, Well interestingly enough, we can add hiding war crimes to the liturgy of Paypal tendencies.
Bradley Manning exposed (via Wikileaks) an American helicopter pilot killing ambulance drivers and two civilian employees of Reuters who were trying to rescue an injured person. Deliberately Killing ambulance drivers and reporterters who are trying to rescue a dying man is a war crime.
When wikileaks revealed the existence of the war crimes, Bradley Manning instead of being congratulated which is what should happen to a whistle blower. He was locked naked in solitary confinement for months. He will spend the rest of his life in prison. As will Julian Assange if the Americans get him.
But the point is that Paypal blocked all payments to Wikileaks. Thus trying to aid the American government in suppressing war crimes.
So debit cards from now on, and "Pick up only" on the ebay adverts.

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by Brushstrokes 75 on Feb 26, 2012 3:32:23 GMT 1, Just discovered the following, comes from Paypal User agreement (never seen this before) :
11. Seller Protection Programme
11.1 What is PayPal seller protection?
If you are the recipient of a payment made by a customer (“Payment Recipient”), we will re-imburse you an amount for Claims, Chargebacks, or Reversals made against you based on the following reasons:
A Chargeback or Reversal was issued against you for the reason of an “Unauthorised Payment”; or A Chargeback or Claim was issued against you for the reason of “Item Not Received”,
where PayPal receives from you proof that the item was posted or delivered in accordance with the requirements set forth below, subject to the further provisions of this section 11 (including, without limitation, the Eligibility Requirements at section 11.6).
11.2 PayPal seller protection is available to:
Payment Recipients with registered PayPal Account(s) in the UK, Ireland and/or Sweden who receive PayPal payments from buyers making an eligible purchase via eBay (worldwide and everywhere PayPal is accepted); and Payment Recipients with registered PayPal Account(s) in the UK only: who receive PayPal payments from buyers making eligible purchases outside of eBay.
PayPal seller protection does not apply to Claims, Chargebacks and/or Reversals for the reason that the purchase was Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) nor for items that you deliver or are picked up in person.
11.3 How much protection is provided by PayPal seller protection?
PayPal will pay you the full amount of an eligible payment the subject of the Claim, Chargeback, or Reversal and waive the Chargeback Fee, if applicable. There is no limit on the number of payments for which you can receive re-imbursement under PayPal Seller Protection.
11.4 What happens when a buyer files a Claim, Chargeback, or Reversal?
PayPal will place a temporary hold on the funds in your Account to cover the full amount of the Claim, Chargeback, or Reversal. See section 10.1.d for further details about the temporary hold process.
11.5 If the payment is not covered by PayPal seller protection, PayPal will remove the funds from your Account and return the payment to the buyer. In addition, you will be responsible for PayPal’s Chargeback Fee, if applicable.
11.6 Eligibility Requirements
What are the eligibility requirements for PayPal seller protection?
You must meet all of these requirements to be covered:
The item purchased must be a physical, tangible good that can be posted. The transaction must be marked by PayPal as eligible or partially eligible for PayPal seller protection on your Account “Transaction Details” page. If it is marked eligible, protection for both Unauthorised Payments and Item Not Received will apply. If it is marked partially eligible, protection for only Item Not Received will apply. Items sold on eBay will be marked eligible even if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. Generally, items sold on websites other than eBay will be marked eligible if the shipping address is marked confirmed and partially eligible (that is, eligible for Item Not Received only) if the shipping address is marked unconfirmed. Post the item to the shipping address on the “Transaction Details” page. If the item is delivered in person or if the Payment Recipient posts the item to a different address (for example, if the buyer asks that you send to another address on the basis that it is a “work address” or a “gift” address) then you will not be eligible for re-imbursement under the terms of the programme. You may access the “Transactions Details” page by logging into your PayPal Account, selecting “History” and then selecting “Details” for the transaction. Follow the postage requirements described below. You must accept a single payment from one PayPal Account for the purchase. Respond to PayPal’s requests for documentation and other information that is reasonably required by PayPal to investigate the matter in a timely manner. Your primary residence, as listed in your PayPal Account, must be in the United Kingdom, Ireland or Sweden (however, different levels of protection apply for each region, please see section 11.2 above).

Trouble in PayPal Land?, by mayhem on Feb 26, 2012 16:19:28 GMT 1, One day someone is going to end up in serious trouble, Its not like the buyers address is hidden is it? When I was stitched up by a buyer I had to hold myself back from driving 150miles to hand someone a broken nose, and I am not a violent person. If eBay do not start protecting the seller as well, then one day something seriously bad could happen. Happened on facebook...

I'm surprised someone hasn't been seriously injured or killed. The fact someone can easy and effortlessly a seller off is ridiculous.
Like you say it's only a matter of time.
