What to buy for 25K sterling, by nacional on Oct 6, 2011 13:38:37 GMT 1, A difficult but nice one....I have come into a hunk of cash and want to buy 1 piece of art that will satisfy me as a lover of art but will also be a damn fine investment.
What are your suggestions??
If you think you have this 1 piece of art then please feel free to pm me.
Just to pre-empt...I will not pay 25K for your Trollies...I do not want 100 (?) paintings by DOC (no dis to DOC, I luv his stuff)...I do not want 10 (?) banksy prints etc etc......

I saw one in the flesh at a collector's place who bought a few of my pieces and it's absolutely gorgeous. I think size was 1,50 m high x 1 m wide, photoprint on Dibond.

To tick both beautiful art and a reasonable investment (nothing is a sure thing in any market) I would have a short list.
Banksy, OS Gemeos, KAWs, Shepard and McGee.
Outside of this genre the list is long and many works well in excess of ยฃ25k.
But the sweetest thing would be an original by Tauba Auerbach.

might have to play it a little different though if your looking for an investment,
why not just buy 25k's worth or gold, (nows not a bad time)
would look amazing just sat on your coffee table (better than any piece of art except maybe the paul insect ones), and almost guaranteed to not loose money.

I was quoted the following pricing for a strong Shepard Fairey images on the secondary market:
30x42 canvas around $48K (pre-discounts) - recent primary was around $37K
44x60 canvas with museum provenance around $60K - recent primary was just below $50K
I have seen 30x44 and 44x60 stencil collages on paper offered at between $22-30K - no idea what the current pricing is at primary.
I have a 1/1 Shepard Fairey for sale for far less than 25K sterling here: urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=ebaychat&action=display&thread=87912 ;D
Other than that, a nice sized Barry McGee cluster would be in your price range. Though not my cup of tea...
