Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Hubble Bubble on Sept 23, 2022 9:30:33 GMT 1, Great to catch up with and meet some folk from on here... sorry I missed the others! I found the exhibition a little tawdry if I'm honest... impressive presentation for sure in a fabulous gallery but all rather 'exit through the gift shop'... but I enjoyed the day out and stared wistfully at my soon to be trashed Hirst. Managed not to buy a single piece of tat so extremely proud of myself. Thought the GEs looked surprisingly good... interested to see how the current rumour pans out. HB

Thierry Noir 🇨🇵 Berlin Wall • French Street Arist , by Hubble Bubble on Sept 21, 2022 17:10:58 GMT 1, 15120 £ with fees...Screenprint is the new gold Cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers How much would the seller end up with after auction fees … artist resale rights and then paying the agents fee payment ?? The seller receives the hammer fee minus whatever they have negotiated by way of the percentage fee charged by the auction house. Generally this begins at 10% but it always negotiable depending on what's being sold.
But no matter what the seller received, remember that someone was prepared to pay £15k plus for a Noir print (usually with someone else very close behind) - irrespective of how their cash to buy was divided up. HB

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by Hubble Bubble on Aug 31, 2022 14:53:07 GMT 1, Missed it but thanks for posting I didn’t know about this place, got some great stuff from the shop and will visit next time I’m up north! Salts is a fabulous place, stock... there's a permanent Hockney exhibition there and the place itself and surrounding streets are fabulous. It was a mill, built by Sir Titus Salt, a mill owner who cared about his workers, building them housing (in said surrounding streets, named after his children) etc.
There's also a great book you can get which tells the story of how Jonathan Silver, a (then) young Mancunian fell in love with the place and persuaded David Hockney (a famous son of Bradford) to be at the centrepoint of its restoration.
saltsmillshop.co.uk/products/salt-silver-a-story-of-hope
I see it's currently sold out but you can check if it's being reprinted or it may be available elsewhere.

Art Restoration in LONDON 🇬🇧 Who do you Recommend?, by Hubble Bubble on Aug 24, 2022 10:14:58 GMT 1, It depends on the value of the print.
Graham Bignell is one of the best in London... others use others but I like the Bignell studio.
However, it's not cheap and will cost several hundred pounds. I've done cheaper prints/maps myself using brown paper and an iron.

I know this is a radical position on an art forum and hope it doesn't offend too much.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Hubble Bubble on Jul 27, 2022 17:43:18 GMT 1, Hirst has gone all nft. He can afford. If you take his 1000 nfts out of the numbers you have 5149 physical and 3851 nfts. That’s a lot more than I expected but still people see the value in physical over a digital representation. If the experiment had ended at this point and it were simply a choice as you've described (physical versus NFT in perpetuity) then I'd agree. The attraction of the NFT for many is that Hirst seems to be intimating that it (the NFT) will act as some form of 'Currency' going forward. Most of us that held the NFT are, I suspect, thinking about what form this might take and gambling that the resultant benefit might outweigh that of a small original of which there are 5149 slightly different versions. It may or it may not - and to be honest, I don't think DH knows either... he seems to be making it up as he goes along - but for a $2k sunk cost outlay and being lucky enough to own a couple of DH pieces already (not originals, I grant you) I decided that this risk is one I'd like to take. So I held as an NFT and am relaxed about the future... it will be what it will be. Genuinely happy for those that wanted and swapped for a physical artwork but, as yet, there's no indication that the physical has more value than the digital in this instance. That will only come when we know what the end game for the digital is.

A soft brush - like a pastry brush or similar - every now and then will more than be enough to keep dust at bay. For me, they 'live' as invaders amongst us, not locked in a box. But each to their own. HB. What about for keeping small, sticky fingered children away? I'm weighing up the advantages of razorwire vs electric fencing as a deterrent. That's a fair point. A higher shelf? Fixed to a wall? But I feel your concern. I put a few of my canvasses in plexiglass when our kids were younger. I would reframe them now but the cost would be grim to bear. And, in retrospect, I'm sure there wouldn't have been any damage to them had they not been encased. HB

The 'kind' thing to do - that other members (myself included) have done - is to leave it for another collector to purchase from source. EDIT: On another note, I have seen it times and times again on this forum, some people are trying to downplay the importance and value of this item to try to get as many as possible for cheap and flip the hell out of them. Not that I care really I have one and have no intention of selling it, but it always makes me laugh the little manipulations taking place on this forum. I didn’t buy two. I only bought one. And I made sure it went to someone with forum history - so I guaranteed it went to a collector. Apology incoming, I’m sure Balboa 😆

Invader • 3D Little Big Space • Sculpture, by Hubble Bubble on Jul 13, 2022 8:53:24 GMT 1, I see no problem with flipping art. It neither annoys me or makes me happy.
Those that want to will always do it. But I don't understand the holier than thou tirade of abuse that rains down on someone who buys a piece and chooses to sell it on. Especially as it seems that the biggest laugh is usually from those who purportedly didn't want the piece in the first place (I make little reference to this thread, it's an observation in general). If you didn't want the piece and you don't like it then what's your problem?
Flipping is all part of the game... some art increases in value. Those that flip try to realise that value early. Those that don't will realise it at some point in the future. Or perhaps they won't... perhaps they'll keep it on their wall. Or maybe they'll keep it in a flat file (might be tricky with this piece, I grant you). Either way I simply don't understand the nastiness and vitriol towards people buying and selling early. This is very much the 'kitchen' we live in. If you can't stand the heat then you shouldn't be here.
Good luck to the seller. Hopefully they will get rid of something they no longer want, recoup their investment and someone who did want one will pick it up at a reasonable price.

Or, rather, a cuppa. I found myself working my way up the queue and figured I'd wait till I got near and disappear into the e-ether or the ethernet or wherever we go when we log off somewhere.
You'll never guess what happened
Actually... seeing as most of us suffer from the same affliction, you probably will.
The upshot is I find myself with two plastic sculptures and am £1k lighter.
