Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Acme Thunderer on Apr 25, 2023 10:55:13 GMT 1, I don’t think they will have any impact (positive or negative) on the market at all. Just a dog with a bone. Seems like an unfair criticism. Didn't people argue you did the same thing for the Currency unique prints (with a lot less evidence to back your argument up)? Wasn’t a criticism at all as they will have no impact and won’t let it go. My stance on the UP’s was ‘new’ people trying to ‘immediately’ flip for 7 x times (and not worth it especially with how easily damaged).

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Acme Thunderer on Apr 25, 2023 10:10:02 GMT 1, It really is not all doom and gloom - plenty have still sold at all the others you gave mentioned. Everyone is aware there have been passes, but there have been just as many sales (but doesn’t fit your narrative). Enjoy getting your kick out of negativity, but no one is actually trying to run up or hype the prices (except acknowledging when someone offers one for sale at a good price). Out of interest what do you think the purpose of Stormbreaker's 'narrative' is? Is he hoping to crash the market so he can swoop in and pick up a dozen for £500 each? He seems to have posted quite a few links to recent results which probably as others have said gives a fair reflection of current values. I don't view that as negativity, but as a way for other members to buy and sell their items at fair values for all. I don’t think they will have any impact (positive or negative) on the market at all. Just a dog with a bone.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 24, 2023 21:06:53 GMT 1, Pwoar - a fair few of those are stinkers... Will be interesting to see how secondary pans out and what value people put on the differing aesthetics, even just in the realm of NFTs... Seeing them all together like this, the pieces with fewer colours seem to work best. Maybe the safest bet would have been the Black and White which is basically Hirsts own design. On Opensea you can filter by different criteria. Seems like the NFT folk like using a lot of colours (which might explain why a lot look OTT).

Could you imagine how worse they would be if 1m big, so luckily only an NFT.
I did think that a couple looked very good though.
It’s a fascinating project and guess the most important thing is that the person who made them likes them and it doesn’t matter what us art collectors think.

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 21, 2023 18:51:09 GMT 1, I’ve got no interest in owning one of these, but it has been really refreshing to hear that forum members (the majority who will not flip) have been able to get these. There seems to have been a genuine interest in the art for once and not much talk about flipping.
There would never been enough prints/vases to go around, but it’s great that Avant Arte have thought about forum members so should definitely not be discouraged about doing this again in the future.
Well done Avant Arte and I’m pleased for those who have got what they wanted. Seems like a win/win to me, which doesn’t happen that often. 🙌

2 sold for 18k - on ebay and via Sotherby's Price's don't appear to be coming down, particularly now supply is drying up. Nobody is stealing them for 10-12k It’s obvious when people want to ignore the low sales (and trundle out excuses) and it only suits them to focus on the high sales when we know there are auction results when people overpay. Prices are all over the place at the moment (as the market is going down) and supply is definitely not drying up as there is always one on sale somewhere every week.

Shrig Shop Launches....., by Acme Thunderer on Apr 20, 2023 20:00:49 GMT 1, Oh well, no free print for me… but I did get a free dent on the front cover. Guess I must feel lucky then. Oh ! Damned ! I am so sorry for you ! Ask for a replacement no ? The postage back and forth would end up being more than the book so not worth it. I actually think it was dented before it went into the card mailer (although they are not sent in boxes).

Damien Hirst H9 • The Virtues, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 20, 2023 17:58:40 GMT 1, The Virtues sold at Bonhams yesterday contains a dedication on the front (bottom right) in blue paint pen: "for Sharon ♡ Sophie and Damien xxx". Whilst that doesn't necessarily impair value, it does explain why it's a slight outlier compared to recent prices. I expect one without a dedication might have performed 20-50% better on the day. Nothing that some thinners, acetate, white spirit, nail varnish remover, heat gun, blow torch wont remove. …or change your name to Sharon

Thierry Noir 🇨🇵 Berlin Wall • French Street Arist , by Acme Thunderer on Apr 19, 2023 22:22:59 GMT 1, Genuinely interested but how is this any different than any other artist on this forum? Please can you explain what you see as grubby vs. any other? Noir is smashing the estimates at auction. Impressive results in the current climate. I’m a fan on his work. It’s truly iconic and looks great on the wall. Auctions seem to now be the only place to acquire his works (hence the posts here?). Because there are all kind of shenanigans going on in the background aside from the obvious hyping which I accept is by no means unique. I don’t want to get into specifics but just advise people to tread carefully with Noir and not to get too carried away, it’s just another pump and dump. Every email I now get from Thierry Noir always seems to be about something new (but older) appearing at auction. The continuous record breaking auction results (against a downward art trend) is unusual. I do hope that nothing is untoward and no one gets caught out paying too much in the hype. But fair play to anyone here who has been able to capitalise by buying the small canvases early (those Noir adverts at the bottom of UAA have certainly paid off).

Pahnl 🇬🇧 Birmingham Street Art • New Print Release , by Acme Thunderer on Apr 19, 2023 21:17:08 GMT 1, Love these. Got a few Pahnl pieces and would love a couple of these. Fingers crossed i get some cash before they go then! About 40 (out of 112) have sold so far so you should have a few days.
I like the surprise element of not knowing which ones I will receive.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 18, 2023 7:18:12 GMT 1, Seems i missed it, but where was it stated that the NFT has no utility? Surprised so many NFTs! $2000 buy in was not cheap and explicitly stated “no utility” so truly only buying the digital art. But not surprisingly (in hindsight) the overall editions are low, especially the squares. Whilst some may see this as “good” for those that purchased (“small edition” = $$$ will be the argument and maybe so)… I think it is actually more telling of peoples changing attitudes towards the Heni drops… people wising up to the marketing hype around their releases and the quick release schedules aimed at maximising revenues (won’t be long until the next!). I think people were also put off the lack of direct artist involvement (bar the signature) and the debatable quality of the digital prints on canvas. The price will have also put off many. Just a general observation from me. I’ve enjoyed the spin generator and seen some great examples but it was a pass for me ultimately. Always pleased for those that got one, who love it and will get it up on the wall. As there is no utility for the NFT they didn’t need to state it had no utility.
However, I do remember seeing this question being asked on the Heni Discord, and the mods stated there was definitely no utility.
It won’t stop people moaning afterwards thinking they should be entitled to free spin paintings every year for the rest of their life.
