Soup Can anyone?, by barryh on Apr 13, 2012 8:47:22 GMT 1, If you document a work on the street, it is yours to sell.'Technically' it is your photograph which is being sold. Not entirely true. It's not about copyright, not at all, it's about something called Intellectual Property Rights.
What isnt true ? how else do you think all these shops get away with it ?
Tate modern sell postcards in the shop, if I scan and sell copies I could get in trouble.... but if I take my own photo and sell that it is fine.
Im not saying it is right... im saying that is how it works

Soup Can anyone?, by barryh on Apr 12, 2012 19:39:25 GMT 1, = legal advice, I guess. Fair use, I say It is not "fair use" to copy anyone's work and sell it for a profit. Fair use usually allows you to make a copy of a work that you own for your own personal purposes, or for other purposes such as a critique or comparison, but not just making copies of copyrighted works and selling them. I know that there are umpteen companies out there selling Banksy reproductions, like GWB, but I believe that with respect to original street art, the copyrights may have been either forfeited or otherwise waived. But, for prints that have only been put on paper, and sold through galleries or otherwise, the copying and sale of those works is the dictionary definition of copyright infringement.

Stik Walk Print, by barryh on Apr 12, 2012 15:21:05 GMT 1, Barry, you do understand street art is well.... on the street, thus pieces being buffed is a regular occurrence. I'd say 48 active pieces is pretty good. I know he regularly maintains some of his pieces.
''Green markers indicate pieces that are still visible, while red markers have disappeared''
Red is buffed work, green are still visable... you manage that ?
btw, these are 5 minute stikmen... not 1month long murals.
I hope the guy does well as nobody deserves to live on the street, but people who have been collecting this stuff seen to be being pulled along with the hype... Remi seems to have just expressed a honest opinion as he's someone that has worked with some of the best in the game

Stik Walk Print, by barryh on Apr 12, 2012 14:27:52 GMT 1, Theres a map of his street works here DD. Some are pretty old. But as he was homeless for most of it, judging by the interviews. It shouldnt be too much of a shock its all pretty local to him. Money isnt always easy in that situation so it makes sense. www.stik.org.uk/
That (48) isnt many pieces for someone who has supposedly been doing his thing for over 10 years

Stik Walk Print, by barryh on Apr 12, 2012 9:19:43 GMT 1, I baulked at the 10g price tag also. Quick text to Stik assured me that was the galleries decision. Nothing to do with him. Hope this helps. Just out of interest, how much say does an artist have over pricing, when putting on a show with a gallery? I always assumed that they agreed the pricing rather than it being completely at the gallerys discretion. Interested to know. c
a gallery has as much say, as you let them have

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by barryh on Apr 10, 2012 21:18:36 GMT 1, Incidentally, tickets for the Tate Modern's major Munch exhibition which opens in June are on sale now for anyone who's interested.
Is that £15 too ? I think I may invest in a membership

Damien Hirst Show at the Tate, by barryh on Apr 10, 2012 12:41:32 GMT 1, Been to the show today and im left both impressed but slightly baffled....i need guidance.... Firstly although i grew up with my best mate who did graff and i once tried to do a dub i have no experience when it comes to a show like this. I have always been a type of fan who looks at something i.e graff, a painting or a sculpture etc and appreiciate the skill in the work, however i have never been to a show where you see a painted cupboard or a desk with an ashtray and can see the art, i really wish i could and this is not a cynical post btw. Surely if you take away the story the artist backs it up with or gives as the explanation it is what it is, a desk and ashtray, a painted cupboard, some painted pans etc. Is the art the explanation, the idea, the piece or both? Please help people show me the light?!!
check out the C4 show from last week, its an accessible 60 mins which explains some of the works on display

Banksy style "Paint To Escape" Rat in Tauton, by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 19:05:24 GMT 1, When your finished wiping your screen. Explain why this is good exactly. Unfortunately.. Comments like 'this is great' dont help the overarching thoughts about people not having any clue about why they like something apart from the fact its banksy.
Sorry, I forgot you are renowned for going into Brian Sewell mode when giving your opinion of art. If you see my post on the first page, you will notice I said could imagine him sat at home with the family all easter and being bored out of the nut.... literally knocking up a stencil to escape the house for an hour. The thought of that made me smile and is the reason I like it
will that do ?

Banksy style "Paint To Escape" Rat in Tauton, by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 18:48:59 GMT 1, Dont get it. Its just a rat. The origami bird was clever. This is just fanboys creaming over it because its something they can relate to from 6 years ago. Yawn off with the rats. Backwards step from the bird imo
Its a nice little piece over Easter, it has a few light hearted potential meanings but nothing too serious. Its not something id personally want as a print but I quite like it.

Banksy style "Paint To Escape" Rat in Tauton, by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 16:40:50 GMT 1, Think its could be ICF, yet the stencil has slipped. Inter City Firm and banksys work have been seen in the same place. Inter city firm, as in the West ham hooligans ?
I know it was a stupid question, but no need for the neg karmas

Banksy: primed and all set for take-off, by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 15:15:37 GMT 1, Anyone you think will start to make that jump ? Personally I cant think of anyone else thats near him in terms of monetary value. Team Banksy have put a lot of graft in, in the last 10 years to get to this point. Os Gemeos
For me, Os Gemeos are already at that level and are likely to blow Banksy out of the water imo long term. Would be nice to see some proper Kaws at auction too.

WTB Banksy Originals/APs etc., by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 11:28:01 GMT 1, Pretty obvious thing to point out.
Well I was commenting on your previous post. If infact you have been offered cheap works with no COA.. yet have a paper trail (like the 2k RR), you should be all over them

Banksy: primed and all set for take-off, by barryh on Apr 9, 2012 11:03:38 GMT 1, I think things will grow more stable and stead this time around, and I don't think the focus will be just on Banksy anymore. I think things have changed a lot from 2008, and we will see a few other Artists climbing up to the figures we normally only see for Banksy's.

A Warning To Forum Members, by barryh on Apr 3, 2012 12:33:49 GMT 1, Are people asking for the forum to automatically add a watermark to ALL images that said something like NOT FOR SALE? I just can't see how that's gonna work. And if it said UrbanArtAssociation or something? What does that really do?
Very good point... it does nothing. If top end galleries use this method of making cash, then I doubt you can stop a few people on a forum.
