Urban Art - Who to collect or not!, by Street Art Fan on Nov 17, 2017 21:58:31 GMT 1, Can you explain what your 'thorough professional analysis' is? Of course. I would be happy to elaborate, since sharing knowledge is the basis of this beautiful forum. Although I usually get generously compensated to advice people how to invest in art I will make an exeption for you. In this case I start by analyzing all the previous post of the OP, to form a vision of preference. I also take in consideration the forum name and used avatar. Combining this with my extensive knowledge of the art world and cunning financial skills I decide on a course of action. Then with my astonishing skill in using the Controle C and V buttons I copy the artists the OP likes and dislikes and compose my advice. It's a painful proces, but nevertheless very rewarding. Hands down the post of the year. Kudos, my good sir.

Print Storage Advice, by Street Art Fan on Aug 25, 2017 16:10:33 GMT 1, I do like the sleeves, I've never reused them so could not give advice there. I still see the 24X36 available, where did you hear they are not making them anymore? I've also been looking into a flat file cabinet, any experience here with those. See the reviews on the one from Amazon but any addition feedback would be great. Thanks, but I was referring specifically to the 24" x 36" refills that Picturesque used to sell for their 24" x 36" presentation cases. The ones you linked to on Amazon are the same size but made by a different company. They don't have ring holes that would match the rings inside Picturesque's presentation case. Just got off the phone with Jerry's Artarama. Apparently the supplier that used to make the 24" x 36" refill sleeves for the Picturesque cases couldn't get the size right, so they were dropped. Zero plans to sell them in the future.

Print Storage Advice, by Street Art Fan on Aug 25, 2017 14:43:28 GMT 1, Question for those who know more than I do. I've been storing my prints in a 24"x36" Picturesque Presentation Portfolio and my meager collection has outgrown the approximately 30 storage sleeves that came with it (15 sleeves filled front and back). The portfolio was very well regarded 5 years ago on EBeans when I bought it but it's been discontinued so I can't get any more sleeves to add to it. I've purchased some Alvin Archival Sleeves for some larger prints that wouldn't fit in the portfolio so I think they would be a good way to go and could work in a future flat file set up I don't have yet. Also, is there any opinion on BagsUnlimited's Mylar (4mm) bags and .040 Super Acid-Free backing board? I'd love this forum's advice on how you store your prints so I can follow in your footsteps. Different boat, same sea. Have the 24" x 36" Picturesque Presentation Portfolio (love it), but in need of additional sleeves to store more prints. Almost had a heart attack when I found out that they no longer make them in that size.
Question: What are your thoughts on re-using sleeves? Would it be ok to wrap a new print in a layer of fresh acid-free paper before putting it in an old sleeve? Or maybe storing two to a sleeve, each print separated by the black acid-free insert that comes inside each sleeve? Desperate times, desperate measure and all that...

Controversial Art, by Street Art Fan on Aug 22, 2017 0:19:28 GMT 1, To me, your post uses 'controversy' in a way I really don't. A print that wouldn't make the wall, to me, is just rude or some such term. Indecent maybe. Crude even. This is rude, indecent, crude. This wouldn't make the wall. Controversy, to me, requires a level of notoriety. The artwork has to break in to the public sphere in order to be controversial. This work, Serrano's 'Piss Christ' is controversial(it's also very sentimental to me because it was the first work of contemporary art that I became aware of when it became a scandal back in 1989). Another controversial work. This time Chris Ofili. and one to show that a controversial work doesn't have to involve religious iconography. Richard Serra 'Tilted Arc'. I would definitely say that not being crude is usually a better bet for career success. Being controversial is not something that an artist themselves can really control, unless at a certain level of notoriety already, because of the public participation that is required. Your post takes me back to freshman year at college. Andres Serrano gave a talk on my campus, during the height of the Piss Christ controversy. The lecture hall was packed to the rafters - it seemed the entire community had come to hear him speak. Dressed in a buckled leather jacket, black jeans, and combat boots, he made an undeniable impression as he took the stage. For over two hours, he mesmerized the audience as he discussed his artistic vision, presented highlights from his body of work, and made an impassioned defense of the First Amendment that sticks with me to this day. Listening to him talk on that hot night so many years ago, I became convinced that in the right hands art really could shake the world.

Sold - thanks for the harassment. Dumpster fire. , by Street Art Fan on Aug 15, 2017 19:17:48 GMT 1, valuable 32nd post. Keep it up. Street art needs your opinion. Mate, I don't suppose you can just not sell these. You don't need to! Ignore them. Ill give you 550 dollars for the launch print! Agreed. I don't know you personallyย cmodart , but judging from your posts these past few years you come across like a decent guy, a real mensch. That's why I say that you shouldn't sell. In fact, don't do anything for a few days. Use the time to think about a response with a clear mind. Selling out of anger because a few users question your integrity would be the least prudent thing to do at the moment. Why not consider sending the buyer something - a book maybe, or one of your amazing ceramic pieces - as consolation? You prove nothing by essentially giving your set away because of an oversight.

Why 1xRun is a Scam, by Street Art Fan on Aug 13, 2017 5:20:48 GMT 1, So 1xRun has a ton of prints on their site, and overall they're pretty affordable. Every week they post about a special archive access with certain prints available for only a certain period of time at huge "discounts." However, I've been tracking the prices of certain pieces to see if we're really getting a deal, and have seen regular prices fluctuate WILDLY. For instance, a print could be $150 retail (no noticeable sale going on) yet this weekend when they offer "40% off" I saw the price spike to over $300. Net result = you end up paying virtually the same price (in some instances more) Do they think we're stupid? If you're going to jack up prices just so you can pretend you're having a sale, don't bother doing it at all and insulting the art community. I agree with you for the most part, but I think what you're describing is pretty common in the marketplace. Businesses tend to surreptitiously raise prices during sales, so you end up paying more when you think you're paying less. Amazon, for instance, is pretty well-known for their "dynamic pricing model" - essentially a euphemism for "price-jacking".ย

Taschen summer sale, by Street Art Fan on Jun 22, 2017 15:29:19 GMT 1, Thanks for posting this Coach . I forgot that the sale starts today.
I ordered a few books from last year's summer sale - one on Peter Beard, one on Taxi Driver, and one on Kippenberger. Although they're "lightly used" former display copies, they look brand new. I'm really pleased with the purchases and plan to buy more from this year's sale.

Recommend a classic tv series, by Street Art Fan on May 30, 2017 5:52:03 GMT 1, I don't think anyone's recommended the tv series Rectify (Netflix). Kinda like a cross between Dead Man Walking and Forrest Gump, it's a thoughtful (my wife says depressing) family drama based in the American South. Great writing, excellent acting.

Your latest Art Purchase?, by Street Art Fan on May 20, 2017 13:01:23 GMT 1, Back from my business trip to Winston Salem and Dallas. Picked up a few pieces whilst I was away including this lovely mixed media ceramic piece by Lola Santana. I bought the vintage scale last month from a salvage yard and have been looking for the right piece to put on it. With all due respect, that's horrifying. Maybe because it's reminiscent of the puppet from the Saw franchise?
Congrats on the pickup?
