Banksy โข Have A Nice Day Print โข 2003, by Black Apple Art on Mar 27, 2015 17:34:55 GMT 1, Great price for a great print, also one of my favourite street pieces, glwts. Speaking of that piece I finally watched "How To Sell a Banksy" last night and was quite entertaining. Loved the shots inside all the gallery shows he attended and the Cans Festival. Good watch.

Martha Cooper ๐บ๐ธ Subway Art Book โข New York Graffiti , by Black Apple Art on Mar 26, 2015 22:48:43 GMT 1, That's very kind of you to say. But I can assure you I lack both the technical skill and testicular volume to pull this off. I'm noticing. I just do not understand why you're rushing headlong into a challenge lost from the start: to belittle the work of the greatest photographer/documentarist of street art of all time. Which introduced street art, urban style, hip hop style to the whole world long before the coming of the Internet. every street art lover, street artist, should be happy about this release, about the shoot of this legend on the work of another legend, sold for a figure accessible to any collector, especially on the "BANKSY forum" but sometimes this forum is a strange place. Pet I think you are taking most of this in the wrong way. Not liking a piece is quite different than "belittling" the artist. Seems for the most part most are saying they like or don't like it and explaining their line of thinking behind their view.

Martha Cooper ๐บ๐ธ Subway Art Book โข New York Graffiti , by Black Apple Art on Mar 26, 2015 20:19:22 GMT 1, Here's Martha ripping off Haring's work too. Nothing added. Despicable. I'll bite. What you have there is a picture of Haring working. How is that the same as a staged photo op of an another artist's existing work? Very different IMO.
If Martha was so tight with Banksy, as some have suggested, why couldn't she snap him (or his team) creating any of the BOTI works? She is apparently trusted and skilled enough and to shoot so that no identities are revealed. That would be a more appropriate work to release and one I may have considered buying.
In her interview she stated the only person she has never shot but wanted to was Banksy, so don't think that was an option, but having the man himself in front of a piece would really be something, hoodie / monkey mask and all and could easily off a few thousand of those. As I said, love her body of work and have much respect for what she has done for so many years. Seems she tried something with this piece which works for some and not for others. Personally does zero for me but hey there are 75 happy owners somewhere.

If Martha's funds went to charity I woukd have never commented... Well maybe once Might have even bought one depending on the charity. Changes the dynamic entirely

Martha Cooper ๐บ๐ธ Subway Art Book โข New York Graffiti , by Black Apple Art on Mar 25, 2015 21:29:29 GMT 1, Personally, I don't think the photography adds any creativity to the piece. It just feels like a shameless money grab to me. I can see buying a print of one of her early photographs when few people treated graffiti as legitimate art. But this feels like she's trying to cash in on someone else's work and popularity.
You must have taken thousands of photos during your life. Has there ever been a photo you never managed to get?
MC: Banksy at work
So instead she snaps a pic of his wall piece, signs them and sells as her own work? I'm truly bathled at the attraction to this photo unless one is such a Martha fan they just like singed Martha works regardless of the image. If a member did this they'd be ripped to shreds.

Martha Cooper ๐บ๐ธ Subway Art Book โข New York Graffiti , by Black Apple Art on Mar 25, 2015 20:55:41 GMT 1, Really like Martha's work and her IG feed but can't find the attraction to a picture of a Banksy street piece no matter who snapped the shutter. Just my opinion of course. Does zero for me.
BTW there are plenty available. Go to www.streetartplace.com then click the add to cart.

Keith Haring โข Icons Series, by Black Apple Art on Mar 25, 2015 19:12:52 GMT 1, Always liked his work, wouldn't have called myself a fan but lately I've been blown away a couple times by some of his works. Guess I never knew I missed so much of the good stuff. Can't wait for the Keith Haring expo in Rotterdam later this year. I can say I was blown away at the sheer quantity of his originals at Basil in Miami last year and many I really loved. Found a new appreciation for his work there seeing them up close and in person but sadly those pieces were in the high 6 and low 7 figures. Bellow is one I particularly liked. "Lucky Strike" Pen and Ink from 1987.

Keith Haring โข Icons Series, by Black Apple Art on Mar 25, 2015 18:12:48 GMT 1, Great looking pieces but hard for me to get behind anything that is produced "by the estate" or after an artist is dead. Just my opinion. No doubt. would be much better if signed by KH - In this case these were designed, created, and produced while KH was alive and he had ability to direct and control the series. Also the series fits very well with other editions of the time period. KH passed in Feb '90 and i beleve these were signed by Julia in June '90. I think it would be worse to find out they had stacks of prints in a hospital room trying to get them signed in his last months of life. This is in my opinion much different than say the Basquiat estate pieces created by Basquiat's father 13 years after death and the artist was previously not doing editions of this type and the estate picked the pieces they were going to reproduce. that said- it probably helped broadedn Basquiats fan base and they are pretty amazing pieces.. sooooo.. who knows.. ( i owned a Cabeza for a while and llike an idiot sold it because.. well anyway) I agree about having truly "artist last wishes" pieces and or projects they were actually working on prior to their end. Definitely something to that but again who's to say what they were working on or not truly. Seems with most estates of course the money trumps all. The Basquiat estate is a whole different animal all together. They have been licensing out for numerous clothing lines, prints, duplicate works you name it.

Holy Grail Offered - Need To Fund Purchase, by Black Apple Art on Mar 24, 2015 22:52:57 GMT 1, I have been offered a piece which I have been hunting down for years, but it is big bucks. To help fund the purchase, I am considering selling some/ all of my unsigned Banksy prints, which have coa As the market seems to change day by day, I'm looking for a considered price for the following. I've got an idea of what they are worth, but would like to firm up where today's prices are for them. All have been stored flat & all are in mint condition Rude Copper 7/8k? Love Is In The Air 7/8k? Monkey Queen 3k? Turf War 3.5k? Full LA Set (purchased on the opening night of the show) - would want to sell together 30k??? Silver Flags 3k? Happy Choppers 5k? Queen Vic 4.5k? Cheers in advance This is such an opinionated matter though you will never really know the worth until you sell them. Or just lick your finger and place in the air to see which way the wind is blowing? Newart has had the full LA set at 30k for well over a year now so prob safe to say that's high.

Banksy prints now available @Laz, by Black Apple Art on Mar 24, 2015 4:10:37 GMT 1, When looking back at the Laz sales from years back he has alway been ahead of the market with his prices and lately he's prob about 6 months ahead. On the flip side you do get a fresh print in pristine condition with no worries about COA ect. Wonder how many he's got back on those vaults.

The sad regression and demise of the word "Mint" , by Black Apple Art on Mar 22, 2015 21:40:42 GMT 1, I think what's more sad is the importance many collectors place on minor imperfections in condition. Comic books and trading cards are enjoyed in entirely different ways than art. If your art is still relevant in 20-30 years, no one is going to give a s**t about these minor imperfections. I don't find someone being particular discerning "sad" as I think everyone can have their own standards for their own pieces and preferred condition. To me truly "minor" issues are just that and don't bother me but still nice when they are pointed out before hand.
I find the most prevalent issue to be the back side of prints. While the front may be in great condition, very often the reverse is quite another story and often been blessed with the wide spectrum of adhesives and techniques many framers deemed to be "usual practice" or "benign" in nature when if fact they caused significant damage and continue to do so being unchecked and treated. . I know it's easy to unwrap and hang but for everyone's sake... Open your pieces and inspect them or have your framer do it.

The sad regression and demise of the word "Mint" , by Black Apple Art on Mar 22, 2015 20:48:07 GMT 1, What in the world has happened to the word "Mint"?
I find more and more frequently I am running into sellers, agents and galleries claiming pieces are "mint", only to find out they have never even opened up the frame to look at the piece. I believe the word is now just a novelty thrown in to attract buyers or keep interest in a pending sale and is an insanely over abused term. It seems the "M" word has now has regressed to mean "nothing major wrong with it" or "it was mint when I had it last" and I see a rampant problem with failure to properly grade pieces and seems to only be getting worse as fewer pieces are actually in mint or near mint condition and prices continue to increase for high demand works. The word itself has sadly lost most of its meaning by so much abuse and over use.
Many many years ago I used to collect comics and if you wanted true value for your piece you actually had to submit it to CGC for grading. If you simply graded it yourself it would be hard to sell at all and if you did it would be at a serious discount. I know in general "Mint" means "as new" or "pristine condition" but in comic collecting it really means "Gem Mint" or "perfect in every way" and most new comics new off the shelf don't even qualify for this grading. Over the years I had submitted several comics to the CGC that I thought were mint and the best I ever got back was a 8.5+ which isn't even "Near Mint" but "Very Fine Plus".
Getting back to art, I just find a serious lack in general for proper grading and the center of the problem seems to be the scale is now purely subjective to the person "grading" / selling it and let's be honest we are all usually a little biased when grading our own pieces. I know this is not always the case and truly appreciate and like to see highly detailed descriptions and pointing out minor flaws that may or may not mean something to a prospective buyer. Truth being that top condition, mint and near mint pieces are truly rare gems and should command a premium. I think anyone who has been collecting for a good amount of time can attest to how rare and special true mint pieces are and it is really something special to own.
Anyway... Would love to open up this subject and open for discussion ways to promote both better and more accurate grading and inspections by sellers and due diligence and proper inquiries from buyers. Let's all return the shine and luster back to the word 'Mint".
P.S. Framing dos and don'ts, knowing your framer and print abuse is another serious issue and equally important. Another time and another thread.

Kaws โข No Reply โข 10 Print Set, by Black Apple Art on Mar 19, 2015 7:17:36 GMT 1, I agree with most of this, but remember art is so personal if your talking about the next level, kaws is popular but not as much in Europe as in the states clearly. He is well known in urban art and toy collecting circles but i don't agree with that is one of the most important living artists. That said I'm a fan of his as well. I think it's the price increase that has shocked a few members on here, we all know kaws has a wealthy fan base and they will buy this set no doubt. It's just a shame pace has now set the price even higher, so fewer fans/collectors can afford them. Also not so sure a parade in America is a good example of how famous an artist is worldwide Imo Did enjoy your post though Agree with @godspeed that Kaws quality is next level. His acceptance amongst the fine art crowd is also next level. Kaws has really made the transition to top tier artist. One of 5 living artists to have a float in the Macys thanksgiving day parade (two of the others include Koons and Murakami). Kaws is entirely on an another planet compared to basically every other artist discussed on here. The only other artist frequently discussed here that is in the same league as Kaws is Banksy. And while people here pay ยฃ10K for Banksys without blinking an eye they are hemming and hawing over Kaws's prices. If you want a canvas from Kaws you can expect to pay 75,000. If you want a big one, which many of his works are, be prepared to spend $200,000. This is one of the greatest living artists. While many of you guys may not agree, there are obviously many people who do. And while most complained about the price of Ups and Downs, it sold out without a problem--and this set will do the same, dont you worry. I just don't understand what forum members expectations are. Because as I've seen with other print releases, it sure feel likes 80% of all the prints released are bought by forum members. And when you deal with the Maya Hayuk's, Sandra Chevrier's and DALeast's of the world, its fairly understandable because despite how popular we perceive them to be, most of the art world does not know or care about them. (no offense to the artists or Jean-Francois because i own and love my pieces from those artists) But the perspective needs to change when you are talking about an artist like Kaws who has recognition, respect and acceptance from some of the smartest, richest and most powerful people in the entire WORLD, not just our forum. Do you guys realize how many people JUST in Hong Kong that went to Basel can afford to spend $45,000 without blinking an eye? Forgetting the Pharell's and Nigo's and all of the other big time celebrities who are Kaws fans. There are a lot of rich people in this world and there are a lot of rich people who love Kaws. He only needs 100 of them to buy this set. This has become a bit of a rant at this point but it just frustrates me that some people here do not seem to recognize Kaws and what he has accomplished. Because if you did, you would understand that his price is a reflection of his market--very very strong.I I'm not a vinyl collector but I like Kaws as well but think his core demand and image is more associated with his toys and collaborations with various apparel brands then art, not that takes anything away from his accomplishments. Also his start in the 90s in the NY graf scene is genuine and grew organically from there. Have to remember the vinyl market is HUGE especially in Asia and I believe that helped him transcend into other collectable markets.
I agree with most of this, but remember art is so personal if your talking about the next level, kaws is popular but not as much in Europe as in the states clearly. MBW DROPS ANOTHER RELEASE.......well his son is on it now, by Black Apple Art on Mar 18, 2015 1:46:39 GMT 1, "Strong Imagination" What an ironic piece of artwork. Definitely a visual oxymoron at the very least.

Gonzalo Borondo ๐ช๐ฆ Spanish Glass Artist โข Street Art, by Black Apple Art on Mar 15, 2015 13:47:51 GMT 1, Surely a coincidence, but that's an auction starting at around cost. They're probably expecting a sizeable profit on that.
One of the best clips ever

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Black Apple Art on Mar 15, 2015 0:03:43 GMT 1,
What are the odds... I'm in Vegas and Cliff is staying a few rooms down frome me. Thr entire floor has a 24hr saturated smell of weed. When the cleaning crew does his room they wear face masks to keep from getting a contact high. They all get randomly drug tested. Classic!
