nagasiddhi - Gravity and Grace, by AoT Framing on Jan 19, 2017 16:58:30 GMT 1, Delighted to have Sculptures by nagasiddhi in our Brighton gallery. All work has been meticulously crafted, often spending months to complete.
“My art work helps me re-imagine and re-image myself and re-enchant my relationship to the world. I hope to inspire others to do the same”.
nagasiddhi originally studied for a degree in Fine Art at Cheltenham School of Art and went on to work in the theatre as a prop and scenery maker for, amongst many projects and organisations from the first series of ‘Father Ted’ to MTV, English National Opera and The National Theatre to designing live sets for Bjork. A growing interest in Buddhism led him to being ordained in 2002 and being given the name nagasiddhi, which roughly translated means ‘the wisdom of dragons, or of the deep’. When not making art he runs a Buddhist retreat centre, leads retreats and helps facilitate ‘River of Soul’ workshops and courses. The artwork he creates today bring together his experience of everything from the theatre, property maintenance, Buddhism, Depth Psychology, fairy tales, mythology and alchemy.
Crucible (40 x 22 x 26cm) Fibreglass, iron fillings and gold leaf. £750 The human heart -The ultimate alchemical crucible where the ‘prima materia’ is transformed in to gold.
i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll127/nyagogo/nagasiddhi/Crucible-2_zps2jqmd91c.jpg[/IMG
The Mercy Seat (24 x 24 x 210cm) Wood, metal, fabric and copper plumbing pipe. £1500 “In Heaven His throne is made of gold The ark of His testament is stowed A throne from which I’m told All history does unfold. Down here it’s made of wood & wire And my body is on fire And God is never far away.” - Nick Cave.
The Seat of Mercy appears empty. Have we been abandoned? Who sits in judgement? Are we willing to show a little mercy ourselves?
Been Here Before (30 x 100 x 45cm) Wood and metal.£1800 History unfortunately tends to repeat, both personally and politically. Have we been here before? We all can go between extremes, all looking for some sense of balance. In this instance, a cattle truck can move endlessly back and forth along its see-saw track. The containment of the cattle truck is contrasted with the freedom of the white bird that alights on one set of the buffers, there’s always the possibility of another way.
Threshold (53 x 29 x 102cm) Wood and gold leaf. £1000 The Liminal – the threshold between worlds. How would it be to be comfortable to dwell outside habitual and illusionary opposites and to inhabit the space between?
Overflow (24 x 24 x 48) Wood, metal, glass, mirror, clay pipe and carved wooden bird.£800 I nearly called this ‘Over and Out’. Which way freedom lies: Out of, or in to, the depths?
Yearn (27 x 17 x 73cm) £800 Wood, metal, glass and gold leaf. Inspired by both seeing a reliquary in the shape of an arm containing the arm bones of a saint and the Indian tradition of offering a wooden votive of an arm to a shrine in order to make a vow or pledge. What do you yearn for?
Grail (26 x 26 x 7cm) Metal, mirror fragments, glass and concrete. £475 The Grail - The image of the sacred within the mundane. Sometimes perhaps we need to dig deep to reveal the truth, sometimes, maybe, it’s there in front of us all along. Buddhism talks of the ‘Bodhicitta’ -“The jewel in the dung heap”. (A metal goblet flattened by running over it with my car and then cast in a mix of concrete and mirror fragments using a cake tin as a mould).
Please feel free to contact the gallery if you'd like an appointment to view any of the Sculptures.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by AoT Framing on Jan 6, 2017 18:29:49 GMT 1, I was fortunate in a previous life to be an A&R man for various record companies. A lot of the best gigs I saw were in front of a handful of people usually less than 20 people. Occasionally I'd stumble on something wonderful and report back to my bosses that we should sign them. Acts that I desperately wanted to sign but was turned down included Jesus & The Mary Chain,The Sugarcubes, Pj Harvey, Pulp, Stone Roses (8 people at Dingwalls for this gig!) but best gig of all time for me was Bob Marley - Crystal Palace 1980. Goose-bumped the entire 2 hour set.

JIM SANDERS (SANS) - Solo Exhibition , by AoT Framing on Nov 22, 2016 15:23:27 GMT 1, Love it and affordable compared with some of the prints being hyped on here. I would definately check out the expo if I was in Blighty. Ball and claw feet too. I wonder if they are cuban mahogany or walnut? Thanks Ploppi, I am always on the lookout to show very talented, challenging artists in the gallery that are affordable and provoke a strong emotional response.
The most common reaction to Jim's exhibition/Art is that they 'Love it, but just don't know whether they could live with it!' I don't really know what that means, however, I've come to realise over the years and print releases I've put out, that the majority of people on this forum, tend to buy exactly the same (safe) prints from a handful of Artists (not mine, ha ha) and rarely buy from anyone else until it's fashionable to do so.
Sorry I can't answer your wood type enquiry, I did ask Jim, but he didn't know either.

JIM SANDERS (SANS) - Solo Exhibition , by AoT Framing on Nov 2, 2016 16:15:20 GMT 1,
Jim Sanders' works serve as reflections on the essence of human emotion and interactions in an ever more crowded and confused world. A world increasingly without faith or credible leadership where people struggle to make sense of their purpose or path. The cast of characters he puts before us force us to turn inwards upon ourselves, they are both disquieting and yet reassuring in the very same breath.
Living and working in Brighton for the past 18 years and having exhibited all over Europe and in North America this is Sanders' first solo show in the UK for 5 years.
Limited edition screenprints, originals and postcard drawings starting at just £40. Music and giveaways on the night. Please be aware this exhibition is not suitable for minors. Private View Thursday November 10 6-9pm. Please rsvp for guest list inclusion. www.artoftreason.co.uk

The £50 Art Thread, by AoT Framing on Oct 14, 2016 13:29:07 GMT 1, Jim Sanders Exhibition at the Art Of Treason Gallery November 10th. These A5/6 unique Originals will be £40 - £50.
As with passing thoughts and experiences, the Wall of Cards is not a single image, but a whole made from many parts. Drawn, mainly in transit, on antique books, recycled documents, envelopes, flyers and discarded packaging the found images serve as a jumping off point for intuitive imagining and instinctual journeying, revealing the innermost thoughts of the artist. A visual diary of the subconscious, they serve as reflections of the essence of human emotion. The Wall of Cards is a patchwork of imagery, a modular quilt of experiences. With all the individual works being available for sale separately the viewer is invited to create their own narrative and curate their own composition. With new works being added and taken away each time it appears the Wall of Cards is never displayed in the same form twice.

Moniker Art Fair, by AoT Framing on Oct 7, 2016 20:58:32 GMT 1, The virtual reality booth, if you can be bothered to queue is really good! Eine/Charming print at Jealous is a winner. Everything else was so dull and un-inspiring. On the upside it gave me renewed confidence in my gallery as I think my stable of Artists are so much better than anything I saw, but I guess I'm biased Looking at The Other Art fair website, it looks like a lot of the artists from Moniker are showing with The Other Art fair which seems a bit strange??

Kelly Blevins 🇺🇸 Charcoal Artist • Commissions • For Sale, by AoT Framing on Sept 30, 2016 14:13:29 GMT 1,
GICLEE PRINT ON SEPIA HEAVYWEIGHT 300GSM MINUET PAPER. PUBLISHERS BLINDSTAMP SIGNED EDITION OF 35. 50CM X 70CM £125 www.artoftreason.co.uk/artists/kelly-blevins
Kelly Blevins is an independent artist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Her work is characterized as hyper-realistic and sometimes surreal. Her artistic medium of choice has been drawing with charcoal or graphite on paper. Since 2012, she's been in exhibitions regionally and internationally with several magazine publications and print releases out of New York and London.
As a child she was fascinated by animals that are perceived as dark, scary, and mysterious. She recalls lying in the grass at night watching bats fly in an out of an old farm house her family lived in, and being impressed by their movements. Spending parts of her youth in Arizona, she has always been drawn to American Indian imagery and lore as well as mythology from ancient Egypt and South America.
Her love of animals also pushes her to capture on paper the images of some of the most majestic creatures of the world that are endangered or approaching extinction, like rhinoceroses and wolves. She is also taken by the small animals that live alongside humans; RATS in particular.
Kelly hopes to continue challenging herself to confront the darker side of life and to portray the beauty of things often regarded as ugly or frightening. She says, "I think that all life should be appreciated. Some of the most interesting and beautiful things are in the shadows, disregarded, and willfully forgotten."
