Joseph Loughborough ๐ฌ๐ง Charcoal Drawing โข Gold Leaf, by AoT Framing on Sept 28, 2018 15:39:08 GMT 1, Fabulous artist. Constantly exploring new ideas and developing. I like these new works very much. Wonderfully dark yet beautiful. Joe is a thoroughly decent sort too. I wish him and you every success with this show. Thanks Coach, I've known Joseph for over 15 years and feel this latest body of work, is absolutely incredible. Very chuffed to be hosting this show!

Joseph Loughborough ๐ฌ๐ง Charcoal Drawing โข Gold Leaf, by AoT Framing on Sept 27, 2018 17:54:19 GMT 1,
Drawing inspiration from Camus/Kierkegaard's notion of 'Absurdity', each drawing becomes a decadent theatre of emotion, sexuality and movement. Lonely human forms seem to struggle and ponder the sporadically lit space they occupy without reaching the point of a dramatic emotional encounter.
Arriving back to the UK after nearly a decade in Paris and Berlin, Loughborough returns to childhood surroundings as a source of inspiration. For this new series of works, he ties the idea of an unstable nature within the human condition to the oxidation of iron merchant shipwrecks in Portsmouth harbour.
Pdf catalogue here: docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/48b1c7_41f413d2153546d8853cee9708f84ea2.pdf Please r.s.v.p. if you'd like to attend the Private view next Friday 5th October 6-8 pm.

The Specials & 'Friends' Back In The Studio., by AoT Framing on Sept 20, 2018 15:43:24 GMT 1, One of the artists I sell work from is David Storey who was responsible for designing most of The Specials sleeves including the iconic 'Ghost Town' artwork. This is one of his latest prints: 'The Burghers of Broadgate.'
I also once sold Terry Hall a Jim Sanders original too at an Affordable art fair as he collects Outsider Art! Aside from all that name dropping - what a band!

What do we all do for a living?, by AoT Framing on Aug 27, 2018 10:42:29 GMT 1, Well, struggle to pay the rent and have yet to make a living out of it, turn up and sit in a deserted space all day, agree with the few folk that do come in how amazing the art on show is that they never buy, organise events that nobody can be bothered to come to, spend a fortune on advertising which leads to nothing. Distribute costly leaflets and brochures that nobody reads. Wait for people to come back to me, but never do. Waste hours posting and boosting on social media to no avail. Hoping it isn't too hot because people hit the beach, hoping it's not raining keeping them away. (although nobody comes in anyway). Not sure whether I'm foolishly optimistic or totally insane. Welcome to the world of running an art gallery!

Dismaland- was it really 3 years ago, by AoT Framing on Aug 20, 2018 16:16:26 GMT 1, Nettie Wakefield was one of the artists there and since Dismaland she's had a show in Los Angeles in June at the Jason Vass gallery where she made some blow up dolls she'd drawn made into full size bronzes. Thinking about doing a limited edition print with hand-finishing of the doll if anyone's interested?

New Horizons @ Art of Treason, by AoT Framing on Jun 18, 2018 17:45:18 GMT 1,
Joint show with Ian Hodgson (National open art competition winner) & John Simpson (Recently shown at Tate Modern) Ian will showcase a development of his more experimental work and although the drawings head towards the abstract they still retain a sense of the figurative, the horizon used both in a literal sense and as a metaphor. John's work will be a continuation of ideas first explored in his recent print installation at the Tate Exchange. Tate Modern, 2018. Biological forms combine with images of wilderness to create a new landscape. Private view 22nd June, please r.s.v.p mark@artoftreason.com Online preview catalogue available on request.

Artists You Might Not Know, by AoT Framing on Jun 7, 2018 15:08:14 GMT 1, Haha, what a great thread. Im not one to judge but being around this forum long enough there isn't much that moves the needle besides that list of artists. Some are deserving others meh. But in the end I see this forum as a place to speculate about prices and art versus genuinely collecting. Maybe I am wrong and I know many of you guys actually have a real passion for collecting but maybe don't speak up. The only threads stay relevant are those selling or speculating. As a gallery I post plenty of new artists with installation shots and rarely get a reply. I still post hoping one day people would wake up and contribute more and share more about emerging artists. I hear you Mirus, I too run a gallery and spend ages organising shows, trying every type of promotion known to mankind to showcase fantastic emerging artists to the world (Brighton at least!) and mostly get zero response. In my experience people very rarely buy a piece of work for it's image or the emotional response from it, they'd much rather buy what is safe and has been bought by hundreds of other people, before they'll buy. It's just fashion not art. The successful galleries simply follow fashion, trying to set it, is nigh on impossible.

Sarah Shaw - Hall of Mirrors , by AoT Framing on Nov 21, 2017 16:41:04 GMT 1, Sarah Shaw 'Hall of Mirrors'
"Shawโs paintings sneak right up to the classical formulas of beauty and composition, and then quickly back away again leaving the viewer wanting. She dangles completion in front of the onlooker like an unreachable carrot. While this palpable manipulation is at times uncomfortable, its reflection in contemporary life is equally so. The works evokes the emotions of incompleteness and wanting that can riddle this over-promised and unfulfilled 3rd millennium reality." -Seth Orion Schwaiger MFA, GSA
Sarah graduated from Falmouth College of Art in 2001; her work has been purchased by private collectors in the UK and abroad, and resides in many private collections, including Rolling Stone, Ronnie Wood. She works from her studio in Brighton.
'I had an intention to create a certain painting with a certain feeling. This one didnโt happen. It obviously wasnโt the right time for it. The one that emerged once Iโd turned the canvas upside down and continued working surprised me. It felt like a true reflection of my working process โ I initially called it โHouse of Cardsโ to reflect the precariousness of the making process in which passionate feeling can make or destroy a painting in seconds. โHall of Mirrorsโ seemed so much more apt once I realised that I had inadvertently painted into the work the face of one of the people who first believed in my work, and has since bought three of my original paintings. The exits and entrances within the painting, the precariousness of the paintwork and the creeping something on the ceiling all combine to create what is for me an accurate summary of what happens emotionally and physically in the studio Pressures, uncertainties, a few ghosts. A sense of history. A sense every time of picking up a brush and going alongside all those painters down the ages and also having a slight sense of your own ridiculousness in having your heart in your mouth every time you make a painting.'
Hall of Mirrors was the winning painting at this years British women artist competition 2017. www.britishwomenartists.com/competition.php
To celebrate the award, Art of Treason have published a very small print edition of just 25 copies. Medium: Giclee with silkscreen varnish on 330gsm somerset velvet paper. Signed and numbered. 60 x 60cm.ยฃ250 + p&p.
