Your latest Art Purchase?, by cerulean on Aug 21, 2014 23:48:14 GMT 1, There will be a time where I stop buying stuff...right? I think we may need to start a 12 step program! Ever since I joined this board, I'm discovering more and more art that I want! Very tempted to buy one of Mr. Jago's canvases from White Walls show. Literally dreaming about the painting......

TAPE RESIDUE ON PRINT, by cerulean on Aug 1, 2014 21:42:16 GMT 1, I think I am right in saying ALL framing processes will damage a print, albiet to a lesser extent. What this means when you have a Banksy print worth 10K, I have no idea. I have taken a couple of my B prints to be framed, but have bottled out when the framer looks to be terrified when I mention value of prints...so, they sit stupidly in the folder between sheets of tissue paper etc... You are wrong in thinking that. Use Mylar mounting strips. Zero adhesive. The strip will be stuck to the backing board, the print sits snug within the mylar strip and the mount or mat will cover the strip! Probably a bad explanation but it means everything is archival and no glue/tape/starch on the print. I wouldnt use anything else unless its deckled and needs to be floated. Hope that means a banksy or two can get on the wall! www.amazon.co.uk/Archival-Mylar-See-through-Mounting-Strips/dp/B005NYG2WIwww.dickblick.com/products/lineco-see-thru-mounting-strips/ I've used mylar strips on smaller prints. How are they for securing larger prints 18X24 and even 24X36?

TAPE RESIDUE ON PRINT, by cerulean on Aug 1, 2014 21:39:50 GMT 1, Thank you everyone!!! I'm relatively new to the forum and very much appreciate all your help! I may decide to return this print and wait to get one in mint condition. All of your info is very helpful as I do have several other prints that I am planning on framing and want to make sure they're done properly. Sounds like Mylar strips are the best way to go.

TAPE RESIDUE ON PRINT, by cerulean on Aug 1, 2014 15:59:08 GMT 1, I recently purchased Fairey's Vivi La Revolucion print in an auction on Ebay from a seller who previously had it professionally framed. The print was listed as "mint condition". I specifically asked if there was any adhesive residue etc when it was removed from the frame and was told it was in perfect condition.
When I received it, I discovered residue on the back of the print from where the tape was removed. The marks are all along the entire back edge and three vertical lines that run the length of the print. I was assured that the framer had used acid free tape. The front of the print is fine.
My question is how much does this affect the value of the print? I have the option of either returning the print or working out a discount. Any thoughts on what percentage would be fair?

Martin Whatson En Pointe Print Release, by cerulean on Jul 31, 2014 19:18:11 GMT 1, Best way to thwart the flippers would be for artists to put 5-10 copies of their print on Ebay for charity. Would be a nice way to raise funds, but doubt it would thwart many flippers unfortunately. True, but at least some of the high rollers money would go to charity instead of the flippers.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 22, 2014 19:19:02 GMT 1, forum member? how much are they asking? forum member, didn't find out how much they wanted. that's all i feel comfortable saying; don't want the pitchforks coming out. I've had a hunch as to who it may be and I agree it's best not to say. I know some people will flip a print to offset the cost of the ones they're keeping (which in my book is not as bad as flippers who do so purely to make money). That said, I'm just saddened becuase I think the collab is such a special piece!

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 22, 2014 16:29:02 GMT 1, maybe people who would sell are waiting to see what they'll be going for? mine's not going anywhere I was (maybe foolishly) trying to get two more so I could have a tryptic, figured I'd see if anyone was at the show and didn't care to part w/ it for $40-50. Now people are offering real money for it on EB, so I'm probably giving up. Still have my baby! Excited to see it framed! Framing mine too! Liked your idea of a tryptic. I'm hoping to pick up the other color combinations down the road. Would be cool to be able to frame all 5 mini's with the blue one in the center. Long shot, I know.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 15:56:24 GMT 1, Anyone use the Soho Paint Box for framing before? I want to do a really nice frame and the Groupon deal would certainly help. I just want to be sure they're good. I've not but the reviews on yelp are all very positive. I called them up to ask a few questions and they were very polite and helpful. Thanks, I'll stop by and check them out.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 15:48:01 GMT 1, Did anyone frame their pieces yet? Bringing mine down to the framer probably on Thursday. Picked up that groupon deal that dss111 mentioned earlier in this thread. $59 for $200 worth of custom framing. Can't go wrong there. Anyone use the Soho Paint Box for framing before? Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 15:19:03 GMT 1, At least none of the collabs will be on ebay (or I'm pretty sure they won't) - think they were all picked up by forumers (dreamers, cerulean, tas, one more) Someone had a change of heart, one for sale on EB. It doesnt look like they had a change of heart given they're stating "Highest offer wins"
Who is Actariq2? I'm not on EB yet and I don't think it's any of the original 4 of us that got it. It's a shame they don't appreciate what they have. Whatever happened to buying art because you love it.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 2:14:59 GMT 1, forgot to even ask... the Zach girl print... glicee? glicee with screenprinted elements? maybe the red? anyone have any idea? Love mine so much but can't tell. Purely, glicee no screen printing. I also purchased it and asked Giancarlo. I must say they did such a beautiful job on all the prints especially the En Pointe print that I can't believe it's screenprinted...the tagging truly looks hand done!

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 2:12:11 GMT 1, I was first to buy something and that's what I was told.... could have misunderstood, of course. Maybe they stopped taking addresses because it was taking too long? I'm sure if you e-mail them once everything has settled down, they'll sort it out. I'm not sure it's necessary. After all they're stamped and signed. Just wondering if others feel its important and are requesting them?
If so, I'm going to have to get stronger glasses to figure out the numbers on my prints..lol.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 1:30:52 GMT 1, Does anyone know how long the prints will be available for sale in BK. (Def a question I should have asked when I was there....) Best to call them tomorrow. It's likely the prints sold out at the opening or over the weekend since they were only releasing a 1/3 of the editions for each. The rest will be sold online.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 21, 2014 0:19:25 GMT 1, Yes, I was finally able to make out the number on the collab with a magnifying glass and a flashlight - LOL! I'm still not sure of the number on my solo Zach Girl print...there are a lot of fine lines in the print itself that make it very difficult to distinguish the pencil mark. I might actually have #1 on that one even though I wasn't the first to purchase it. (I can't make out a second number yet.) It seems they didn't sell the prints in order as I got a rather high number on my Whatson En Pointe print even though I was the first or second to purchase that one (unlesss they held back the first 30 or so). Yeah, not sure what happened w/ the order; someone earlier said their Chinook was #17 and they were far back in line. I do know that my 'Enjoy Graffiti' was the number immediately after the one on the wall. I didn't discover the number on my En Pointe till I got home (since they tubed my prints). I admit I was a bit disappointed with such a high number (in the mid 30's) since I was either the first or second to purchase it. That said, I'm extremely happy with the print itself. GP did such a beautiful job that the tagging actually looks hand done.

Graffiti Prints Different Strokes NYC Group Show, by cerulean on Jul 20, 2014 7:53:40 GMT 1, When I mentioned earlier that they were originally selling 4 of the collaboratives, that was the information that we were given before the show opened. At the time that I inquired, there were four of us on line who had been there since early to mid-afternoon so we were told there would be four (perhaps to reassure us that each of us would be able to get one). However, they were still working out the details for the show so they may have decided on a higher number before the show opened. Also when I said a couple more may have been sold "further down the line", I just meant directly behind the initial group of us. The forum member's post that I was responding to was the first one in line and I was third. Hope that clarifies. I was right with you, don't remember? We rode the subway back haha Yes, I though it might be you. At least you got the Zebra! Again, sorry if my post was confusing.
