No Batman 3...RIP Joker, by mike hunt on Jan 23, 2008 11:25:10 GMT 1, I hate to say it, but I think Batman 2 will do even better as people know that it's Heath's last movie. Batman Begins is probably one of the best superhero movie adaptations...other than V for Vendetta. What?! V for Vendetta was not a good adaptation of the graphic novel, and batman begins was pretty good but the only properly successful comic book adaptation so far was Sin City. Most graphic novel fans that I know would agree with that.

Micallef 2.0..., by mike hunt on Jan 23, 2008 16:36:08 GMT 1, Loads of people are great draughtsmen who can draw and paint very well. Talent is not unusual. What distinguishes the art that i want to buy is a unique style, message or feeling that it conveys to the viewer. That is not so common. However, if a piece does something for you and is well priced, then go on mon brave!

BASTNY.com Relaunch, by mike hunt on Jan 21, 2008 16:55:46 GMT 1, REGARDING BAST PRICING.......... Taken from BASTNY.com NEWS section. PRICING A few fans of BAST have asked us as to why the price of the TRASH & ROYALE Print is $1500? There are many factors we take into consideration when pricing a piece of work. These include SIZE, MEDIUM, EDITION and most importantly the time spent hand embellishing each piece. You'll notice that straight one color prints are priced much lower. We have always tried to be fair and reasonable when pricing work. From time to time we have offered smaller more reasonably priced pieces so everyone can afford to own one. Such as we did with our last release of "50" and Masquerade Sinatra". BAST has also from time to time included extra pieces of art in his De Papel books so others can own a one of a kind piece. Then there is the issue of reselling or as some like to call it "FLIPPING". Take a look on eBay. At any given time you will see auctions for BAST, BANKSY, FAILE and other artist's work priced much higher than for what the artist themselves sold it for. On top of that there are dozens of bids for each piece. Does it make any sense that someone who flips a piece of art should make more than the artist/creator? Many fans of BAST are artists themselves. I'm sure those artists can understand more than most the time it takes to create. Keep in mind we don't even monitor auctions sites like eBay and truly believe in a capitalist society. The links are often sent to us from other fans/friends. We actually don't see anything wrong with reselling a piece of art you've had for awhile for profit or to buy another. But there have been many time people have asked us for a deal or some other special treatment (which we have done from time to time) only to find out they are reselling it the next week for double what we sold it to them for. Lastly, art galleries price art according to demand. We try to keep our prices just below gallery prices as to make work accessible to fans and others who can't make it to the shows or gain access to previews. We do however still need to make sure we don't undercut as well. So as you can see there are many variables and we truly try to consider them all. So if you are feeling priced out remember to check back with us from time to time for smaller BAST pieces. And if you were one of the many that supported BAST early on and got some great deals well more power to ya! Now don't go and sell that "GOLFPUNK" print on eBay! The Art G*ds are watching!
A sensible way to ensure longevity for the artist. Price it at what its worth (ie what people are willing to pay) and don't flood the market. Support the artist early on and you will reap the rewards. This is how it should be IMO.

Banksy: Times 2 article today, by mike hunt on Jan 29, 2008 0:41:19 GMT 1, But owning it would make you modern and clever.
Modern? Err, an art critic should know that 'modern' was quite some time ago and it is now contemporary. Fairly basic stuff to know which art age you are in, and if you are going to critique art with the big boys, then best to get the most basic of terms correct.

Chiba - Testing the waters!, by mike hunt on Jan 15, 2008 21:16:48 GMT 1, It also reminded me of an album artwork, I've just looked it out - Akasha - Love Philtre Magick, produced in 2002/2003, artwork by Solaris100 www.solaris100.com/home.htmSimilar graphic style but with colour.
I knew Tim from Akasha. He's nuts. Looked like a homeless Joseph in technicolour dreamcoat with long hair and big black leather worn out clown shoes.

Antony Lister Elms Prices, by mike hunt on Jan 15, 2008 21:26:22 GMT 1, My opinion is you should buy art to frame and stick it on the wall, sure if you get bored in a year or so move on, nothing wrong with that and if you have 'profit' so much the better.
Skins - I totally agree but last time i said this it caused some kind of mild controversy!
Frankie: The artist in Heroes is a comic book artist - I have one of his novels - I'll have to dig it out to get his name. Typical of Linderman to give the story away - he's evil - he's gangster number 1.

Antony Lister Elms Prices, by mike hunt on Jan 15, 2008 19:32:09 GMT 1, if the gallerys started pricing there prints according to the aftermarket prices, like ebay etc, this could cause a crash in the market.
Linderman. If you are the same Linderman from the series 'heroes', then you have no right to talk about the market crashing, when it is your intention to blow up new york city.

does lister do anything bar superheros?, by mike hunt on Jan 14, 2008 11:38:23 GMT 1, im liking listers style in his prints, but not too keen about puting super heros on my walls. anyone no of anything he has done that is not superhero series. i think that this superhero stuff will wear off on me so dont really want one. anyone have any ideas / opinions?
"does lister do anything bar superheros?", the answer is yes. He plays the spoons really well, and also makes a great Cheesecake.

Banksy V Damien Hirst, by mike hunt on Jan 11, 2008 20:57:29 GMT 1, Yes there is a financial tie existing between the two but who cares? It's a great image and a great idea. They both get something out of it. Banksy gets more pr and interest in the art world because of Hirst's profile and Hirst gets to look cool because of Banksy's art!

Wanted : 8,760 living statues, by mike hunt on Jan 10, 2008 20:53:43 GMT 1, Is this a cheap and easy populist stunt? Or could it develop into a profound and moving social, anthropogical and artistic experiment?
Sorry - forgot to answer you question!! I think both those intentions are a bit extreme, but it is a little bit of both, and so much more. I'm sure a few other artists would love to have thought of it, because its so simple, clever, interesting and will be popular, which is no bad thing IMO.

Wanted : 8,760 living statues, by mike hunt on Jan 10, 2008 20:47:47 GMT 1, I think Gormley is a top class artist. He makes well designed, fantastic concepts that changes people's environment in a positive way. This isn't his normal style, but I think it is an amazing idea. When it happens, people will be talking about it. Can you imagine, someone will probably get pissed and show their ass - we can't even predict the fun and controversy that will occur. My guess is there will probably be lawbreaking and shameful self-promotion. Whatever happens, its going to affect the evironment while its up. No sculpture/installation will have the same effect, impact or interaction.

New Dave Choe out today, by mike hunt on Jan 11, 2008 15:37:49 GMT 1, Crikey - I just wanted to say that a few friends who have collections that I really like gave me a heads up on an artist who didn't really float my boat, so I didn't buy. Didn't realise it was such a contentious subject! I will never use the term again - I have opened a can of worms. I will fall on my own sword now (that is not code for masterbation)! sorry mike, no offense meant!, i did'nt direct it at you personally, although can see thats how it reads, apologies.
No worries - sorry for taking it personally. By the way, you guys have got to read this thread. I almost wet myself laughing.

New Dave Choe out today, by mike hunt on Jan 11, 2008 15:33:03 GMT 1, Ok Carlito - I will cease my bitch-fit! G - I find is so difficult looking at art online for that reason. There's been things I hated online, and when I saw them in the flesh I really liked them (and the other way round). Its especially difficult looking at art with depth, textures or marks.

New Dave Choe out today, by mike hunt on Jan 11, 2008 13:06:49 GMT 1, I remember knowledgeable people getting excited about Choe, especially after City Girl, which is a v cool image, but I haven't seen anything by him that comes close to matching it since. I may be wrong, but I think people are looking to be amazed by the standard of his new stuff. If he doesnt achieve that, maybe people will no longer direct the same amount of attention at him? He's a big talent, no doubt.

Get ya pets out, by mike hunt on Dec 19, 2007 11:34:45 GMT 1, this is the best thread ever. Made me really laugh. +1 for Paulypauls comment. This is much better than 'what do you look like'. I don't want to have favourites here because this is the cutest bunch of pets ever, but I especially love looking at all your pussies.

top stuff, by mike hunt on Dec 18, 2007 22:33:58 GMT 1, If like me, have a Banksy SG hangover because you couldn't buy or didn't have the cash, then this will sort you out. Did a trawl of galleries this afternoon, and the gallery in the basement of Dr Martens in covent garden (can't remember the gallery name) was really refreshing. This was my first visit to this gallery - I went to see the Jeff Aerosol stuff (it looked wicked), but everything else is also great value and the art is different to the usual suspects. The guy that runs it wears a silly hat, but he's was really into it.
A big thanks to all the people that posted on this forum about new galleries / lesser known artists, which got my ass into gear.
NB - if you get the chance, the lucy mac exhibition at laz inc looks amazing. I was never really into it, but it is brilliant.
