Credit crunch, credit crunch, credit crunch, by mike hunt on Dec 18, 2007 22:01:52 GMT 1, I think the housing situation in the UK is different. Demand still outstrips supply and people always need a roof over their head. Due to tax breaks (amongst other things), the worlds rich live in london and the money filters down. When things are good, the media play it up and when they correct, they play it down - it sells papers. People seem to have less cash in their pockets, but IMO the only thing that will really mess the UK up is a big nasty surprise that we can't predict. Don't get me wrong, things need to correct, but that is different to a crash.

Business Cards..., by mike hunt on Dec 18, 2007 22:05:37 GMT 1, R.e. aubergine, they are the cheapest to use, although they would not be able to print it on a choice of your stock, nor I doubt would they be able to foil-it. This is because they do large composite workings of all different business cards in one pass, thus keeping the price down. May I suggest that you find a local printer with an SRA3 press, source the stock yourself by blagging samples from GF Smith or any of the paper merchants, Fedrigoni do a nice range too. To avoid the mark up on the foiling as not many printers do it in house go direct for this as well. Try Foilworks in Northampton or F.R.I.P in Hinckley.
I do a lot of print buying, and this man is talking sense about printers and stock. +1 for being in the game!

BUY button sighting update, by mike hunt on Dec 17, 2007 20:41:44 GMT 1, Don't give up, try early in the morning, sometimes if prints are in peoples baskets and their PC crashes or they close their browser, then these prints are lost in cyberspace, or until POW manually remove them from these baskets. On the other print releases, some have always come on the following morning!.....good luck!
Very kind encouragement. If I manage to get a banksy, I will happily drink the bodily fluids of someone over retirement age. That is so disgusting - I'm so tired. My apple R skills are waning and hysteria is setting in. I bet someone gives me a print just to see me down a cup of cold sick!!

Come On Same Difference..., by mike hunt on Dec 15, 2007 23:48:44 GMT 1, Feeling the pain for you MM If you flick to BBC2 there is a very exciting end to the O'Sullivan / Selby match (don't want to give too much away, but worth watching)
oooh. And that's a bad miss!
I know what we hated about Henman, or as I used to call him Tin Hen-man (said in the same way as captain caveman). His fake ass fist pump, which was his best effort at showing emotion. His stiff upper lip bullshit and bottling + he represents the part of England that I hate. Apart from that, he's fine.

Come On Same Difference..., by mike hunt on Dec 15, 2007 22:59:27 GMT 1, I agree, it is a travesty. If there's any justice, they will be taken outside, put in stocks and have rotten veg thrown at them. Liking SD if you're over the age of 10 years old is wrong. I think they can put you on the register for it.

Come On Same Difference..., by mike hunt on Dec 15, 2007 22:52:40 GMT 1, 1 bullet - same difference. Seems a waste to use 2 bullets. They've become my pet hate since Tim Henman retired. I went to Wimbledon to heckle him. Sat on Henman hill, shouting insults. People moved and were saying things about me under their breath. My friend said, 'you are really winding people up' and I said loudly 'what are they going to do? They're Tim Henman fans! Oh please Henman fans (in pathetic voice), don't hurt me!'. My chance for revenge after having to see that emotionally bereft excuse for an athlete forced on me as britains big hope and always on telly.

A Rare Banksy Mistake?, by mike hunt on Dec 17, 2007 0:06:24 GMT 1, IMO Banksy talks more about the people using guns to exercise power over other people rather than guns themselves. Sometimes he subverts this idea, like in CND soldiers, but for me power is a big theme of his, with or without guns. In the words of Wales finest poets, (Goldie Looking Chain) 'Guns don't kill people, rappers do!'

A Rare Banksy Mistake?, by mike hunt on Dec 16, 2007 23:28:49 GMT 1, I don't have a view on this but here's my story - I'm from the UK and this happened in the UK. I got held hostage at gunpoint in my home, by someone who was very agitated, threatened to kill me and went on to kill his other victims. However, I enjoy archery and rifle shooting (at targets in a proper, controlled environment i.e. a shooting range). I don't feel the two are related. One is a sport/game testing hand eye coordination/accuracy and the other is a tool to exercise fear and power over another human being.
I feel that the US gun laws is a different subject because it is cultural, and their culture is quite different - it is my understanding that gun possession is a constitutional right in order to overthrow a potentially tyrannical government and keep power with the people. In the UK there is a lot of bad feeling towards the US (despite our consumption of US products and culture) and always has been since the 2nd world war when British troops were poor and the yanks came over with their smart expensive uniforms, gum, money, stealing our women folk etc. I used to go to the states every year, but still don't hold a view on gun laws there, as it isn't my culture and I am willing to admit I don't fully understand. Like I said, I think it is a different subject to shooting, archery etc as a sport in a controlled environment. There are also places in the UK where people shoot birds to eat them for dinner. Don't know where that fits in to this.

Frank Auerbach, by mike hunt on Dec 15, 2007 21:25:05 GMT 1, Frank Auerbach is quality. Loving Leon Kossoff's work - friend and fellow student of Frank - check out his stuff. There are some really established top quality artists and prices are low compared to new, and in comparison, unproven artists. Well done on your prints - great decision. I believe they will go up a lot long term as well. Not your reason for buying, I know, but nice to know all the same!

BONGO WAS ASKED A QUESTION TODAY, by mike hunt on Dec 14, 2007 16:02:32 GMT 1, BOPNGO WAS UNABLE TO ANSWER MAN ASKED BONGO " HAVE YOU TAKEN JESUS INTO YOUR LIFE" BONGO CONFUSED WHAT SHOULD BONGO HAVE SAID TO MAN WITH PATCHY BEARD AND SIDE PARTING
Bongo could have said, 'yes, I took Jesus into my life and he made a right feckin mess of it. I've spent the last 20 years trying to fix the damage that jesus made. Buddha wasn't like that when I let him in. He was kind and respectful. You can keep your Jesus, but when it all goes wrong, don't come running to me.'

Big Thank you to POW, by mike hunt on Dec 11, 2007 20:33:55 GMT 1, I haven't even been tempted yet. Not even got close to adding anything to the basket. I don't mind, because if there's nothing worth having, I'd rather leave it for something I really want.

Guilty pleasures....confession, by mike hunt on Dec 8, 2007 13:51:54 GMT 1, I kmow all the words to the jingle in the advert for sheilas wheels. I can't get it out of my head. It is so wrong. Can I catch them live anywhere? My favourite bit is when the guy in a skirt gets 'Florence' to rhyme with 'Insurance'. Genius wordplay. Kanye West take note.

Guilty pleasures....confession, by mike hunt on Dec 8, 2007 1:56:48 GMT 1, A friend of mine has a really good job at a major record company and when he visits, he always beings a case full of musical treats with him to give to me. Sounds great i know, but amongst the gems are always the label's latest pop release or just a terrible mistake of a record deal. For instance, he popped over last week and gave me a handful of fantastic music, but tucked into the pile was the new album by a particularly tone deaf girl band who you all know. I told him he could keep it, but he insisted I take it (sales must really be down!) So now, when people come round they see a wicked music collection lovingly purchased and blagged over the last 17 years, my guilty pleasures and much worse stuff than that. When people see it, they look at me accusingly, and then mock me. I wouldn't mind if it really was me, but when i start explaining it sounds too far fetched, so I don't even bother trying anymore. I know this confession goes outside the remit of this thread (because I am not receiving pleasure, only guilt) but I just needed to tell someone and the samaritans hung up on me.

Guilty pleasures....confession, by mike hunt on Dec 8, 2007 1:32:43 GMT 1, After Pez's initial post I had to pop out. Upon returning I was pleasantly surprised - what a sick bunch of puppies you all are! However, this is a confessional thread, so we have all been forgiven for these sins*. Almost every single post made me laugh. +1 to wimpy for mentioning the Porky's reference. Quite worrying for me, I could identify with almost all the revelations.
*forgiveness does not apply outside this thread - only the sins listed can be forgiven. This thread reserves the right to withold forgiveness in extreme circumstances.

Favourite New Music of the '07, by mike hunt on Dec 6, 2007 23:41:06 GMT 1, I am going to be a grumpy old git here, but I think most new music has been really mediocre. Very little music that I haven't heard a million times before and has been done a lot better. Hiphop died when J-Dilla died, but his album (featuring everyone) came out in 2007 I think - absolute quality (apart from track one - shut up Busta Gonad Rhymes!). No-one could copy his beats. Guitar wise, everyone sounds like a poor copy of the specials, the beatles, the stones or all 3 - except for one shining light...the white stripes. They have a new sound. I think it comes from the fact that there is only a guitarist and drummer (husband and wife) and the guitar goes into a box which splits it into 3 noises. They have a dirty, garage, hick noise and its fresh.
Soulwise, Jill Scott is okay, but she's no Marvin Gaye - but then, almost everyone is rubbish in comparison. However, Jazzy Jeff is an absolute legend and his production is fantastic. Your mrs would probably like Jill Scott.
House - gone underground again, which is great because it got too commercial and wanky (is that a real word?). I like the Jason Air mix of Far Horizons by DJ Cristo (especially like the artwork!). I think i should shut up now, except to say...you started it!

Quite likely, but Hatton has a slim chance, and has massive support to become a hero. Everyone wants heart to win, and he's the underdog - it would be a fantastic story.
