The Pen and Paper Project, by dmandpenfold on Jun 27, 2008 14:38:23 GMT 1, i'd certainly be impressed if you managed to get banksy on it, sale of an original sketch would put a huge boost in your charity coffers

Glasgow - what to do?, by dmandpenfold on Jun 27, 2008 11:41:10 GMT 1, Glasgow night out rules;
- go out straight after work on Friday
- on no account eat anything before getting hammered..remember eatings cheatin'..
- find local supplier in your favourite boozer and head straight to loos to snort copious amounts of coke
- re-enter the boozer and annoy the fuck out of your mates
- drink vast amounts of tenants followed by red bull and vodka or similar
- ensure you hit some shots in the pubs which claim to promote responsible drinking yet send scantily clad girls around with a bottle of tequila and shot glasses... a pund a go
- letch over some girl wearing her windproof / rain proof hot pants and hi-vis legs
- get into an arguement with girls boyfriend or other drunk also learing at her
- get into a fight
- get thrown out
- make your way to club
- Repeat points above
- Vomit in toilets
- get thrown out of club
- piss in street near kebab shop
- buy kebab
- get train home, fall asleep and wake up in Edinburgh
- get cab home or sleep in gutter
that should cover it.....remember it's only funny cos it's true

Flipping art from galleries question, by dmandpenfold on Jun 26, 2008 14:57:05 GMT 1, I'm pretty sure that the state of California has a law that says the artist is entitled to a percentage of any sale of their artwork.
The system is known as Droit de Suite (DDS) and it's not just California, the whole of the EU is subject to this as are at least another 26 countries, however if you buy and sell outside of those countries it would be hard to enforce. I believe the rights of DDS can also pass to the artists heirs
There is currently a system in place to reward artists on secondary market sales (over £1000 sales), but i very much doubt that any ebay floggers pay any attention to this! Cheers Ragnar
Ronhill is spot on DDS rules don't apply to private individuals, only those selling art as part of a commercial enterprise, essentially galleries, auctioneers etc. It only applies to individual items worth more than 1,000 Euros each. If the item was bought directly from the artist it can be sold without DDS in the following 3 years as long as the sale does not exceed 10,000 euro. Also DDS is applied on a sliding scale based on the value of the item from 0.25% - 4%. DDS is payable up to a maximum of 12,500 euro

Off topic: Car crash trash, by dmandpenfold on Jun 26, 2008 9:47:33 GMT 1, Not art related, but I saw this happen outside my bedroom window this morning: two guys in suits driving their 4x4, hit the back of another guys ford mondeo. The mondeo guy gets out of his car screaming at them about how they hit his (as he put it) "Mottarrrrrr". The guys in the suit ssaid don't worry they happy to swap insurance details as they are late for a meeting. The suits get out their car to try see if they can buff the little and I mean very very little scratch in the bumber of the Mondeo. All ends up being cool but the Mondeo guy calls the cops as the the Suits drive off after swapping details The Mondeo guy drives down the road and by then the cops are driving up and down the road to find the Mondeo guy to have him make a statement against the Suits. Modeo guy parks outside our house again, but the cops have just missed him. He looks around to see if no one is looking and them breaks his tail light with his knee!!!! Trying to make the damage more significant. Then the cops arrive again and he start moaning about how they hit his "Mottarrrrrr" in the back and in the front??? Absolute trash!
what's the point in Mondeo guy doing that... he's still got to replace the light so he isnt going to make a load of money out of it...plus if there were 2 suits, then there was a witness....and of course you looking out the window, who could do the right thing and drop a call to the police...not wanting you to be labelled a grass or anything, but you dont know this bloke from Adam and all he has done is add to insurance fraud which you, me and everyone else ends up paying for in premium rises..

Flattening Prints • Creased, Folded, Rolled or Rippled , by dmandpenfold on Jun 25, 2008 16:58:12 GMT 1, do you suggest flattening it out asap and then storing in a portfolio etc. or keeping it in the tube until you are going to frame it.
olapig get it out of the tube as soon as you recieve it and store it flat, the longer it is in there the worse the curl will be and harder to remove.
You should always be a bit cautious when buying prints off folk on ebay who say 'print in perfect condition it's never been out of the tube since it was delivered'. In my opinion if it's been in the tube that long then it's in less than perfect condition
If the print has been in a tube for a long time the curl will be very difficult to remove and takes a lot of patience, if you try to uncurl it too quickly the print will develop a 'wavey' appearance due to the fibres not straightening evenly and this will still be visible after framing
...so my advice is to take your time, allow it to uncurl naturally for as long as possible then gradually start to flatten it by laying on a flat surface with a protective covering of tissue paper or similar and use some books in the centre of the print, gradually moving the books apart over a number of days to weeks until they reach the edge. then leave it like that until you are happy it has flattened and you are satisfied you can put it in an archival folder or between some board as previously suggested on the thread.

copyright!, by dmandpenfold on Jun 20, 2008 16:29:50 GMT 1, i dont get it, its been the same schpeel for years, liam bought one of the robots way back. what are they supposed to say copyright is an artist. surely its fair enough to write someting about the artists so that people who are interested can get a lil bit more info on the srtist, everyone does it... for example this is the one for pure evil... Pure Evil After moving to California in 1990, Pure Evil spent 10 years printing t-shirts and making music. On his return to London he started spray painting, inspired by American stakeboard culture and the west coast character graffiti of Twist. He has gone on to exhibit work everywhere from Brighton to Beijing. With themes such as, "What does evil look like?" and "Is Earth actually a deep space battle station created millions of years ago by an evil galactic empire?" The future can only hold more weird and wonderful work from Pure Evil! I think its nice to have a lil ablout the artists you're gonna shell out for, and if liam bought one of his paintings why not say, i mean the ammount of times brad and angelina are mentioned in the same sentance as Banksy...come on!!!
Fair enough eddiedangerous, i agree everyone writes some schpeel to sell their work and give some insight into the artist, which is great, i just dont think you need to start using the rich and/or famous to make your point, its the art and the artist that's interesting, not Liam, Brandgolina or uncle tom cobbly

THE FAMOUS £80 CANVASES FROM BLEEDINGEDGES, by dmandpenfold on Jun 20, 2008 16:16:25 GMT 1, Cartrain's writings wouldn't have been nearly so elloquent, BE is able to defend his position / work very well and intellectually, whether we / you agree with him or not. Nice to see how this thread moved from hating, to shouting and dissing and now to a 'virtual love in' with BE. Reading back through the previous pages the swing-ometer shows some interesting swings in the mass opinion of our fickle forum members, we have leaders and sheep aplenty. That may be so, but the topic of this thread were the eighty quid canvases. And in my opinion, no matter how eloquently TBE expresses his views on the world, there's no getting away from the fact that they are poorly executed and the image is boring, not to mention cliched.
you're right, but i think it's already been stated, that's probably the point

copyright!, by dmandpenfold on Jun 20, 2008 16:07:59 GMT 1, ....and his work has been collected by the likes of Liam Howlett from the Prodigy..... People don't half write a tonne of cod s**t to sell a weakly stenciled image for far too much money!
that makes all the difference then, if Liam's got one i want one too.
I dont mind CR's work in fact i have a piece, but freeisthemagic is correct, sales tripe..
