Blatant plug, sorry,
retro
i know there are a wide variety of tastes amongst the board members here, but it seems like a big chunk of the people getting upset with POW need to widen their horizons. if it's art you want, there's plenty out there. buckets of artists producing far more interesting and beautiful prints than some of the pieces which are flying out on POW (as a result of ebay selling or panic buying). shop around, look at things which wont sell out in 30 seconds, it's nice to be able to browse and then make a decision. don't get me wrong, i like a lot of the work on pow, and own a handfull of their prints, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if i'd missed out on them, plenty more favourites out there.

No New Releases, by RetroCanvas on Feb 21, 2007 1:02:21 GMT 1, Nice,
I am with you, I bought my first banksy when many of them were still for sale. It was a gangsta rat and although I bought a signed one for only ยฃ150 through POW, that was a lot of money for a print in my eyes. I only really bought it because it was the one I thought that had the most 'street' appeal and that Banksy came from Bristol (near where I live).
Many people want to own a Banksy print for other reasons than the artwork. Yes yes, we all know that don't we.. boring..
When you receive your trollies, sale ends etc (if your lucky enough to get one) what will you think when you open the tube?
WOW! this really does look great.. or.. WOW! this print is worth ยฃ2k and its a 'Banksy'.
my rant over too and I now realise that whatever I or anyone else for that matter says, we'll never impact the buy to sell what so ever. as philhecht said, its a great little earner that nobody would turn down. I am now boring myself (sorry dudes)
retro
I am new to this whole art business and my first two prints purchased were Dolk "Che" and Faile "Captivating". These were two prints that I really liked and they are still not sold out. Faile is unsigned but the point is, whether signed or not, I thought it was a really good looking print and that is the sole reason I bought it - because it will look good on my wall. Not because it will look good in a tube and I can make a swift buck. Everyone has different reasons for purchasing but my main one is that I will enjoy looking at it on the wall. I am sure this is the majority of people on this forum's reason too. However, if the opportunity to make some cash is there, I wont lie and say I am not tempted. However, if people want to purchase these prints and put them on ebay to make a quick buck I don't begrudge them that. They are essentially commodity trading. They have found a market and have bought goods at a decent price and are selling them for as much as they can get. There is no moral wrong there in my book. It is not as if they are "vulture funds" for example (i.e. companies set up to purchase third world debt on the cheap so that they can then claim the full amount plus interest from the third world country, hence crippling them further and fuelling corruption) which is clearly exploitation and morally wrong. Art consumers have a choice to buy on ebay or not. And if the true art lovers are too late to get a print they love because of such people then that is annoying but that is how markets work. You need to be quick. We are all in this market and if you snooze, you lose. Anyway, that's all from me - apologies for the rant and bring on Banksy!

No New Releases, by RetroCanvas on Feb 20, 2007 21:35:13 GMT 1, Thats a good shout rklimek, but, I think most of the people that want a particular Banksy print could only afford it by selling one that they got from POW.
I agree with you about the smart move though but I think that they pretty much know that whatever they do will make 'em a packet.
retro
Everyone stop complaining - POW did the smart business move. They released non-Banksy prints, and they still sold out in a matter of minutes. Smart if you ask me. It is a total crap shoot getting prints anymore - I'd save up your money and mentally prepare yourself for buying the one print you really want on Ebay.

No New Releases, by RetroCanvas on Feb 20, 2007 16:54:55 GMT 1, Why would it be Banksy's last release through them???
Retro
If thats what they wanted to do that would be fine wid me ;D If they gave the extra to charity I cant see anyone could complain well saying that Im sure some would I disagree; What about those people who can't afford the ยฃ500 for an unsigned Banksy, and those who have saved the ยฃ500 for a signed print only to be told the price is four times that. POW say they're committed to providing affordable art, so surely (for what must be Banksy's last release through them) they will continue to do so.

New Banksy Print, by RetroCanvas on Jun 22, 2006 21:08:50 GMT 1, What is your reason for wanting a new print to come out? ahhhh I see where your coming from ;D Yeah, I would also like to see a new Banksy Print released BUT! That does not mean I will be buying it I would only get it if I like it ;D and of course, if I can afford it and I can beat the mad rush ;D
Agreed,
To all those people that want a Banksy print that haven't already got one, I can see why they would want POW to bring out a new one. Because spending ยฃ300 to ยฃ1000 on one is out of a lot of peoples budget.
If people want to see his new work, and thats the reason they want to see a new print, as i've said before, a new print, new street art etc will come when Banksy wants it to come. He won't do something because someone else wants him to.
It's sad to say, but a lot of peoples motive for buying a banksy is because of the investment. But in this day and age it's in most of our nature, mine included.
In conclusion, if banksy bought out a print, people will buy it whatever it was. 1) for the investment or resale value and 2) you'd probably actually like it
Have i rambled?

POW Show In FOPP, Bath, by RetroCanvas on Oct 22, 2006 23:28:13 GMT 1, Both Rubbish.
Norton Hill was the daddy and you know it.
Retro
ooh, beechen cliff I was common Culverhay I remember being a schoolboy at Beechen Cliff and hearing that they had pictures of naked people on the photo gallery in the foyer of Chemies. I sneaked in after school and was disappointed that they were all of pissed-up nude men. Happy days...

POW Website is GO!, by RetroCanvas on May 17, 2006 15:31:26 GMT 1, I think that the site was designed to be viewed at a particular resolution. For people that don't have this problem, if you shrink the window the image will indeed jump down the page.
personally, I think that the old site was just as good. Sorry.
All I worry about though is being able to get the latest news and movements of the artists under the POW label, aswell as being able to buy good priced art from them. Don't realy mind how it comes as thats up to them.
On the flipside, I think that its good that the site is not like one of the many poster sales sites like allposters etc, you know what I mean.. More mainstream and sales driven.
Probably waffling now.
Any guesses where the new Santas Ghetto is gonna be? I think........ ...
Bristol Maybe

New POW Stamp!, by RetroCanvas on Feb 24, 2006 15:49:23 GMT 1, No, just wondered if if you were from Bath or lived there. My family were from Colerne (between Bath & Chippenham) but I was born in Bath and lived nearly all my childhood there, and some of my adult life. My mum still lives in Upper Weston.
Cool,
Everytime i'm in Bath city I always keep my eye out for stencils and other graf although I would wish to see either a Banksy or a space invader there I think its damn unlikely ever.

New POW Stamp!, by RetroCanvas on Feb 23, 2006 19:19:04 GMT 1, I stamp my own prints and its a tricky thing to do if you want to get it perfect every time.
You only get one go and all it is pressing a lever down (if they do it the same way)
Press too hard and you can make small bends in the paper, too soft and it looks faint. Just one of those things..

Pure Evil., by RetroCanvas on Dec 21, 2006 20:16:38 GMT 1, Fair play to him.
I met him last year at the ghetto then when i had a go at the coconuts. He was giving away free Banksy and Eine stickers too. Many thanks Mr Evil :-)
I bought one of the prints as soon as it was on POW.
It's numbered and signed with a little drawing of a 3 legged dog thing.
A very smart print
Retro
Not sure if this has been posted yet but did you know the guy who does the ring toss at the ghetto (& the coconut shy at last years) is Mr Pure Evil? He is the one that looks like John sessions. I was chatting to him at a bar in shoreditch the other night & he said he had the idea to do the print for a while now & should be doing a few more in the new year. By the way,he said he has sold approx 200 prints.

Beautiful! I love that bit of sky ;D It looks like a dull day, but the sun is just shining through the clouds ;D Quality! Thanks Silky, not sure about the title ;D got an ideas? I was trying to keep them all simply describing the character, eg. Scallywag, Hooligan, Bonehead. Any sugestions, if not used in the actually title, will be put into the background, so your own contribution will be printed in the print. If you know what I mean ;D

WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM A ONLINE GALLERY!!!, by RetroCanvas on Oct 9, 2007 22:25:43 GMT 1, A very personal service is something that has benifited me over the past few years of selling my paintings. Whenever I email or speak to people they know they're dealing direct with the artist.
I've got by on Bank transfers and cheques but have sent a one off invoice to the customer/commissioner if they want to use PayPal.
One of the top things though that I've always done is to keep my customers up to date with the progress of their painting; usually as all my time is taken up with commissions, this means just updating them on how the peice is going and that all is fine. Again a very personal service
I hope that helps,

Guy Denning Show, by RetroCanvas on Oct 24, 2007 18:52:58 GMT 1, Although I really love Guy's 'Moodier' work, I don't really like this for some reason. Hmm
Retro
Check out the awesome twin towers piece up on Red Propeller's front page? www.redpropeller.co.uk/What do people think? Apparently this was another of those pieces that took Guy a long time to find the right frame of mind in order to finish it. I can imagine painting a piece like this would tear me apart emotionally.

Apparently this was another of those pieces that took Guy a long time to find the right frame of mind in order to finish it. I can imagine painting a piece like this would tear me apart emotionally.
