Why 1xRun is a Scam, by NYart on Jul 7, 2020 11:43:41 GMT 1, 1xRun is indeed like Kohl’s . They both mark up items to offer them for “sale”. The illusion of a sale lures in customers looking for a deal, and generally they do get a reasonable, fair deal. But it’s still deceptive - and illegal to do. Let’s say you wanted to buy something from Kohl’s at full price, could you even find something? When everything’s on sale, is anything actually on sale? To me it’s just a way to bait suckers into spending more money than they would otherwise. “But it’s on sale, I better get it while I can!”
www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/jcpenney-sears-macy-s-kohl-s-sued-fake-sale-pricing-n694101
You can’t call something a sale, when the “original price” is more than it has sold for in the recent past. When the sale price = the previous original price, that’s fraud.
1xrun used to be a lot worse, they’d have timers counting down, that would just reset when they expired. Say “1 Print remaining” when they had more. One time I called them out when they offered a print for “sale”. It was originally offered for $300 at release and didn’t sell out. So they marked it up to $425 to offer 30% off on it. Their justification was, that $300 was the agreed upon price with the artist, so they weren’t able to offer it for less. I haven’t paid attention to them lately, but it seems the timers and other flashy high pressure sales tactics have disappeared.

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by NYart on Jul 5, 2020 15:35:38 GMT 1, People joke of him printing off more, but the reality is that he very likely has thousands, possibly tens of thousands. With no shortage of supply there’s no need to print more. It’s no secret that 100,000 of them were made, why wouldn’t Banksys manager at the time have a good chunk of the supply? He can likely keep selling 50 here, 50 there for years.

Graffiti Prints Online Show, by NYart on Jun 11, 2020 14:03:05 GMT 1, Gotta side with GP on this one. His logic was sound canceling your first one, oversells are an accident, you weren’t being punished, he was trying to be as fair as possible. Why cancel an individuals only print when you grabbed two?
You weren’t aggressive or overtly offensive in your emails, but saying your ‘disappointed’ and ‘expected better’ can certainly put someone on the defensive. Not unreasonable to see him to take it personally.

Banksy's Instagram - Black Lives Matter, by NYart on Jun 8, 2020 17:06:09 GMT 1, The common thread I’ve noticed through all the issues lately whether it’s race, politics, religion, is the near complete inability of opposing sides to see things from the others perspective. Far too often we believe and are adamant that we know for a fact why people behave or react the way they do, and it leaves us unable to find common ground. I know when I get cut off in traffic I’m convinced the guys a psychopath with no regard for others on the road. Where the truth is he was probably distracted, had a long day, or just didn’t see me. There’s always things we don’t know about others and what influences their actions. People can’t come to a fair conclusion about something or someone without all the information, yet strongly hold on to their beliefs despite not having all the information.
I went to school for and have my Bachelors in Criminal Justice, but never became a cop. Too many things I don’t agree with that I couldn’t in good conscious enforce and arrest people for.
That being said, lots of my classmates, some of whom were pretty good friends are currently police officers. I can’t think of a single one of them I’d have considered racist in the slightest. White, black, Indian, male, female, pretty diverse group I graduated with.
Clearly there is an issue with police and their misuse of force in society. I think it requires a little more thought and effort than believing they are all, or a good part of them, are racists. Surely their are individual officers who hold racist beliefs, as there are with all groups/professions. Essentially stereotyping them as racist is just as unhelpful as any other stereotype.
I think it really just boils down to the job. The vast majority of citizens that police encounter are not having their best days. Whether they’re the victims or the offenders, cops tend to interact with people at their worst. That’s not the say the individuals are the worst society has to offer, they’re just at a low point in their life. Whether they’re dealing with individuals being stopped for drugs, or someone who just got robbed, cops don’t see the best of humanity on a daily basis.
Assuming the above is true, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that they can come to expect the worst of people, when the majority of what they encounter is negative. They may even respond differently based on where they are being called to. If being called in to shots fired in a neighborhood with high drug activity vs a rural area with hunters, it does make sense. If they responded with a blanket approach, not learning from experience about what to expect, their safety and others could be in danger.
None of this is an excuse for police brutality. They should be held to a higher standard considering the importance of their job and the high stakes involved. But when people believe all police are violent and racist, and police believe all the people they encounter are criminals and out to get them, there is nowhere to go from there. Just an endless escalating cycle of violence and hate.

Chiswick • Urban Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by NYart on Jun 2, 2020 9:57:16 GMT 1, why will it be embarrassing?.. Isnt it just as much a case of buyer should take time and investigate and understand they are buying? ( its not my WCP nor do I own any just for ref ) WCP Banksy up to £750 now, going to be interesting where this ends up, could /should be very embarrassing for Chiswick.
While some fault definitely lays with buyer, considering they aren’t intentionally misleading anyone. An argument could definitely be made that reproductions have no place in a legitimate auction, and buyers shouldn’t have to read the details to make sure a piece is original/authentic.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by NYart on May 17, 2020 0:09:42 GMT 1, You got taken for a ride on the cost of framing that’s for sure. The glass, the only really expensive part of the job, assuming it’s museum glass/acrylic only run $2-300.
As you said, half of people think it was no big deal, other half wouldn’t have been happy. Really personal preference what people like to do about packaging and incidentals, some save, others toss. If you didn’t request they save the packaging, they could’ve as easily tossed it all instructions included. It’s not a COA, it’s not signed, it itself has no value. The print won’t sell for more or less without it in the future.

Sourced from Laz really best chance of legitimacy.

Coronavirus effect on the art market?, by NYart on Apr 4, 2020 2:24:30 GMT 1, Mortality rate is clearly higher than you’re led to believe that’s for sure.
There’s tons of undiagnosed cases though, so that also skews things greatly. It sounds like, of those tested positive about half are asymptomatic. How many additional are asymptomatic and positive but don’t have any reason to get tested? I don’t really think it’s a stretch to say there’s 5-10x the amount of confirmed cases.

Coronavirus effect on the art market?, by NYart on Mar 26, 2020 11:49:44 GMT 1, Its bananas thats its a bill to help large companies in a few months time rather than to get funding to medical facilities and people struggling to pay bills right now. I definitely agree with the sentiment that there will be an even larger gulf between rich and poor after this. I don’t like propping up corporations at all. The sad fact of it though is they really are too big to fail. Too many people are employed by them, the economy is too dependent on them. A complete economic collapse really could cost more lives than the virus, and from the stock market plunge that occurred before the bill I think if everything stayed closed for much longer we wouldn’t be far away from that.
