Sotheby's Art Auctions • HONG KONG 🇭🇰, by NYart on Oct 6, 2020 15:46:52 GMT 1, I do agree that 7M for a this piece is a great price all considering. However it’s historically always been originals that set the market, not prints. Prints are outpacing originals in rising prices at the moment, and that’s not normal or probably healthy. Who in their right mind is spending 1M on a print of which over a hundred exist between different editions, when originals are going for less than 10x? Someone who has a lot of money but not lots and lots of money.
£1m buys them the status they crave without bankrupting them.
I’m sure those collectors do exist, but it seems to more likely to me, the buyer was either super wealthy and didn’t want to lose the print, or market manipulation. Anyone spending a million on art should be knowledgeable enough of their artists market, comps, editions etc or be paying someone who does, not to buy something at such a poor comparable value.

Sotheby's Art Auctions • HONG KONG 🇭🇰, by NYart on Oct 6, 2020 15:10:37 GMT 1, Would suggest that the prints are over valued, but as we all know the print market is quite crazy. I certainly can’t agree that a AP Girl With Balloon print is worth 1/7th of a 22 foot original.
I would suggest the opposite and have an inkling that in a few years time this will be seen as a bargain.

Banksy • Peckham Rock Postcard, by NYart on Oct 4, 2020 20:40:37 GMT 1, Just for the record ; that was a joke.
No more of a joke than current Banksy prices and logic. If 30k at auction makes Silver Flags worth 30k.. seems reasonable for Peckham

Banksy Cushions Gross Domestic Product™, by NYart on Oct 3, 2020 13:36:52 GMT 1, These cushions don't look legit... I know others have been sent out that are identical to what was shown on the website/in the shop, not like this. The smudged lettering is also pretty strange. Happy to be proven wrong.
The description says they’re on pillows from thrift store so I wouldn’t necessarily expect them all to be the same exact cushions.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by NYart on Oct 1, 2020 18:30:30 GMT 1, Even if mats are unlimited, produced indefinitely, they only managed to produce 1500-2000? Over the course of the year. Will take 5 years to hit 10k produced, and even at 10k produced it wouldn’t be hard to find homes for them all.

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by NYart on Sept 30, 2020 15:49:39 GMT 1, It does merit asking where the second tenner came from, but I’m sure it’s all legit, buyer need not beware dealing with biggie.

Wanting to buy Ubik the climb (diptych), by NYart on Sept 23, 2020 18:19:32 GMT 1, Just some friendly advice, as it seems you may be relatively new to the scene. Take some time to read, learn, and all before jumping right into buying. Ubik is completely unknown to anyone, he popped up on Instagram a couple months prior to his first release from Bottleneck Gallery. Only has a couple hundred followers, and hasn’t produced anything of substance.
That being said, if you enjoy his work, and want it on your walls, by all means. But I know if I was just starting out my collection, and I spent several hundred dollars on his work I’d regret it. I did a similar thing with another artist.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by NYart on Sept 22, 2020 11:40:45 GMT 1, Hi, I'm looking for some advice from you all please. I bought an unsigned GWRB direct from POW back in the day. It was framed professionally and has hung on my wall since. However, I notice that the glass is not spaced from the print. There is no surround mount. I'm a bit worried about damaging it by removing it from the frame in case it has stuck to the glass - is this a legitimate concern? Ideally I would like to have it reframed to gallery standard but not honestly sure how to go about it. Interested to hear what anyone else would do or if anyone has experience of this. The recent auction results have made me think about just taking it down and storing it in one of these (http://www.artpakk.com/our-products/artpakk-size-3/). I had thought about trying to get hold of a West Country Prince replica to hang in the same place (heresy?!). Can't seem to find any WCP GWRB available just now either (without paying £400+).
I’d send it straight to Bignell. Even if it isn’t stuck to the glass, it’s been framed for 15? Years. Could be other issues your unaware of.. Bignell can unframe it safely and address any issues should they arise.

Goin 🇨🇵 Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by NYart on Sept 21, 2020 12:44:37 GMT 1, How many collectors are actually that interested in open/timed editions anyway? He’ll certainly accomplish keeping flippers away, along with a good chunk of his collectors. From my understanding, if you already own one of his works then you'll have access to buying signed/numbered editions in future. If you don't, you'll still be able to buy his works, but these will only be the open editioned versions. That's how it's been put across to me.
“There will be no more official numbered, signed, and dated print release”
Maybe those tickets are for editioned canvases or HPM’s?

La Cage À L’Unisson - 1st October , by NYart on Sept 20, 2020 17:42:05 GMT 1, Respect that they’re all unique and the effort I’m sure that went into it, but about $1,000 for a Sandra edition of 100.. think I’ll be sitting this one out.

TateWard • Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by NYart on Sept 15, 2020 14:38:09 GMT 1, Wire clears in one day. Buyer should have been prepared to wire funds fully after winning. Asking to put that much money on a credit card is nonsense. Depending on what points he collects it would be enough points for two free 1st class tickets to somewhere nice. Its certainly not ‘nonsense’ , I charge anything and everything the vendor and my limits will allow. Zero benefit for the buyer to use wire, debit, or cash.
All my point is, people are suggesting he’s a tire kicker, can’t afford it anyway etc. They initially OK’d credit and now the ‘resolution’ is necessitating a wire transfer. That and the house giving back the seller their print before the payment deadline had passed are the only two relevant facts in my eyes. The rest is speculation and finger pointing.

TateWard • Art Auctions 🇬🇧, by NYart on Sept 15, 2020 14:23:10 GMT 1, That's like accusing a shop of "only selling on their terms". It is what it is. Pay or don't pay. Seems like it was the seller that caused the main issue, not the auction house. They just tried to resolve it, but then the buyer didn't help himself by being a bit awkward. Just an unfortunate set of circumstances, that probably won't be repeated again. But it wasn't an attempt to resolve in a manner which was satisfactory to all concerned, as was stated. Having been messed around initially a small amount of courtesy wouldn't have gone amiss.
I think the issue is “Cleared payment by 5pm Wednesday” had they not given the print back to the seller, they’d have likely had cleared funds from the buyer by now. Now the deals suddenly potentially back on and he has to scramble - not to get funds sent - but to have them cleared? He’s in no control over that, they may as well have said bank transfer only.

Following up with delays on PichiAvo after their issues with Sandra/Obey, they’re gonna have to put out great stuff to get me to buy from them again.

Are artists gone bonkers?, by NYart on Aug 21, 2020 17:38:06 GMT 1, The edition size increase really the only noteworthy part of the release. Price point only increased 25% when the prints go for 3-400% retail on secondary.

Banksy • Box Set, Walled Off Hotel, by NYart on Aug 6, 2020 10:52:12 GMT 1, It was thought that the stone might discolour the print where they are in contact. There are (or were) kits available to prevent this. Found the box set kits. the_urban_framer_ on Instagram sells the kits with museum glass, tapes, backing board, video etc to avoid damage to the print.
Would you happen to know what the price is for the kits?

Banksy RAT Print, Gross Domestic Product , by NYart on Aug 3, 2020 9:29:09 GMT 1, Thsi is my first time posting as I have just joined. These are my three rats. Do you think if I linen backed them that it would still be ok? I hate the crinkles
I personally wouldn’t buy anything linen backed, if you plan to sell one day it may not be the best decision.
