Framing round prints (Marc Quinn) , by txjaxx on Jan 19, 2018 1:44:28 GMT 1, My framer here in Dallas did a round frame for my Murakami flower ball, and they ordered it from a manufacturer, already constructed. It wasnโt cheap, but it wasnโt any more than my framerโs custom frames. But they only offer them in certain diameters. Iโll find out the name.

Mr. Dob Murakami ComplexCon, by txjaxx on Nov 5, 2017 21:33:08 GMT 1, Thereโs another drop via Frenzy that started 7 minutes ago. Iโm assuming more of the same figures but Iโm not there so I donโt know for sure. How does the Frenzy app work? When I go on it I see the sold out section and spotlight section. Do you just have to be on at the right time or is there a link I am missing?
The only reason I knew about it was that the ComplexCon app sent out a notification.

Katrin Fridriks ๐ฎ๐ธ Reykjavรญk, Iceland โข Abstract Art , by txjaxx on Nov 4, 2017 22:43:14 GMT 1, Looks like that monograph will finally be out after her solo show in Milan this winter Is this the book from lazarides? Man that was over a year ago...
Itโs been redesigned and added to, including works from this year. I donโt think Laz is involved anymore (I could be wrong on that), and itโs coming out in conjunction with her show at Dellupi in Milan. Itโs a much better organized book than it used to be, and really shows a good progression of her technique. I donโt know the exact release date, but the show runs from Nov. 30 to Jan. 31.

Mr. Dob Murakami ComplexCon, by txjaxx on Jul 7, 2017 20:40:12 GMT 1, That's a bit sh*tty...they're oblidged to sell at the price shown. Their mistake and should honor it. Not very professsional... as shady as they are, they aren't obliged to do anything: shop.complexcon.com/pages/termsTerms of UseBy using our website, you agree to the Terms of Use. We may change or update these terms so please check this page regularly. We do not represent or warrant that the information on our web site is accurate, complete, or current. This includes pricing and availability information. We reserve the right to correct any errors or omissions, and to change or update information at any time without prior notice.
Uhhh, you can't disclaim liability in all aspects. I don't think this would hold up in court, especially with a completed, paid order. The UCC and basic contract law applies, so if push came to shove, CC might be forking over some cash or made to perform the original agreement.

Felipe Pantone ๐ฆ๐ท Exhibition News โข Contemporary Art , by txjaxx on Jun 21, 2017 0:58:06 GMT 1, the publisher has stated categorically that there has been no use of inkjet, the printers categorically state that they did in fact use inkjet. someone is lying.
Categorically? Or just relayed by one of our fellow members here? Not saying that fellow is lying, but people are sure running away with it. Between the two, only Avant had addressed the issue directly here. Coriander hasn't, nor has Avant or Coriander explained the discrepancy, if such a discrepancy exists.
I'm with you on honesty, but I've had nothing but good dealings with Katrin. Although I did not buy these prints (I have Royal Gene&Ethics but am otherwise originals-only), the issue wouldn't have prevented me from buying them if I wanted to. If it did prevent you from buying them, that shouldn't bother anyone, but, to borrow your word, to categorically state that someone is lying is a little much.

Mr. Dob Murakami ComplexCon, by txjaxx on May 27, 2017 21:44:51 GMT 1, I would suggest everyone who has been waiting like myself should ask for compensation from the artist via his instragram Facebook page that will get some reaction as time take to deliver their side of the contract is unacceptable
I think that's why this latest email was sent. Murakami posted a pic of the red figure to his IG this week and 90% of the comments were extremely negative. Seems like that did the trick.

Takashi Murakami exhibition at MCA Chicago June 6, by txjaxx on May 15, 2017 4:17:35 GMT 1, He's also shown huge plush flowers and octopi for sale there. And it looks like an octopus figure in the same size as the Complexcon figures, but just a guess. The show closing in Norway didn't seem to have prints but I hope Chicago gets some! I'll be going in July.

Dallas: TX, by txjaxx on Apr 27, 2017 0:13:40 GMT 1, And forgot to add that you might want to hit Northpark mall. It was founded by Raymond Nasher, the guy who built the Nasher along with his wife. So some of their collection of sculptures and paintings is installed throughout the mall, including Warhol, KAWS (might be gone), and lots of others. It's a beautiful building as well and not your typical mall. Recommend La Duni for eating if you go there. Meso Maya is downtown if you eat down there.

Dallas: TX, by txjaxx on Apr 25, 2017 5:10:59 GMT 1, Dallas native here. The number one recommendation I have is the Nasher. It will be between exhibits when you go but the collection is nice and so is the building and garden. As mentioned before, Deep Ellum is good for galleries and street art as well as restaurants and nightlife and is adjacent to downtown. The Design District has lots of galleries and has some restaraunts too but is not as walkable as Deep Ellum. The Dallas Contemporary is there and has some great exhibits now. Downtown is not very exciting aside from the Joule, but that's only about a block's worth of real estate.

Mr. Dob Murakami ComplexCon, by txjaxx on Mar 7, 2017 20:29:55 GMT 1, I would disagree that there's "no reason" to get an update. In fact I would argue that with there being several months since they went on sale, and the fact that there are 31 days from which to choose in the month of March, not only would an update be appreciated as good customer service and management of expectations, it would be flat-out deserved at this point. i guess you are new to the vinyl/designer toy world. Preordering items many months in advanced and not getting an update until it ships is extremely common. Just look at the recent kaws companions that were preordered months ago and just started arriving to customers without any kind of notification. If it was April and you haven't heard then you would have every right to be upset for not being updated but it's not April. They said the estimated shipping would be this month. There's nothing confusing or misleading about the estimated shipping time frame that would require bait to provide and update. What is it that you want the update to say, "yup, the estimated shipping is still the same as it was when you preordered it"? You seem pretty adamant about getting an update from them, which is fine since it wasn't an inexpensive item, but why don't you just reach out to them and ask instead of asking hear with hopes that someone else already did it for you? Bait is a reputable store so I'm not concerened about not getting the item, but if I was, I'd personally contact them to resolve the issue instead of relying on hearsay from a forum/message board and/or getting upset at the wrong people for not getting the answers you feel you deserve. Well you must be new to this thing called "communication" because you have really jumped to some wild conclusions about me and what I said. First, I'm not upset at anyone on this subject, except potentially you. Second, just because something is "extremely common" doesn't mean it's the right way to do something. Third, I don't need you telling me what rights I have and when I have them. Fourth, you'll notice my first question was merely that - has anyone heard anything? Not "Where is my fucking toy?!?!?!?!?!?" So the proper response, from anyone, would be to: 1) say yes if you have heard something and if you feel like letting someone know, or 2) not say anything if you don't have anything to add or if you simply don't give a shit. Since you haven't heard anything, one would expect you to go with option 2. I certainly don't expect someone to come on and just publicly dismiss my question like I'm some kind of idiot that shouldn't even be asking a question. What a waste of time on something so stupid. Next time, why don't you just keep scrolling? Art is so awesome!

Kaws BFF Plush, by txjaxx on Dec 2, 2016 20:58:18 GMT 1, I don't think he meant accessible as in Toys R Us, but as in collectors that want a KAWS figure to display in their home.
But that's exactly what he said. I don't have the 100% exact quote, but he repeated that the toys are intended to make his art accessible (he used that word over and over, which I remember because he pronounced it "ass-essible") and to have something nice to put on your shelf but not be mad about when your child throws it across the room or drops it. It's not like the worst thing someone has ever said, it was just eye-roll worthy.
What is truly silly, as I mentioned before, is the smoke and mirrors about their availability. I just think it's disingenuous.
Some other silly things: They had a framed print of Snoopy in the museum shop with a placard next to it saying edition of 50 with a certain number of proofs (can't remember that number). Asked an employee - the museum sold 9 of them at $14K or $18K (again, can't remember, not that it makes any difference) and kept one for its collection. No word on the other 40.
They are now running a KAWS toy raffle. They have a huge selection of toys spanning his career. The day after the exhibit closes in January, they are going to draw names and email people. You have 20 minutes to call back before they move on to the next name. What you win is not the item itself, but an opportunity to BUY the item. There were more rules, and they have the prices. One of the items is a Sorayama Companion, which would be pretty fun to have.

Kaws BFF Plush, by txjaxx on Dec 2, 2016 4:48:30 GMT 1, Ha! Making something accessible for everyone! I think Mr Kaws might have lost touch that $200 is still a decent wedge for most normal people. I'd imagine these are produced and shipped from Asia for under $10.
Exactly! I attended the lecture and had mixed feelings. First off the exhibit itself is great. He was nice and basically presented a slideshow that was chronological about his career. There were some amusing anecdotes, but he gave very little insight into his inspirations, themes, or ART. It felt superficial. There was some very low-key name dropping, of celebrities, artists, and institutions, but I think there should be some meat to connect all those names to him as a person and artist. Re: the figures, at first I was heartened to hear his stance on the secondary market and fakes, but when he said the open edition is supposedly "accessible" enough to be thrown around by a child, I just realized he is operating on a different plane and must be a bit out of touch. Plus I think the whole thing is just a stupid game. Either keep the shops stocked, or just say there's not going to be any more. Even the shop wouldn't say yes or no, just "we haven't heard anything." That's total bullshit. So yeah, if you can, go see the exhibit. It's awesome, and I'll be going back to see it again. But the man definitely has his head in the clouds. And I don't think he's being nefarious or malicious, just out of touch.

But the man definitely has his head in the clouds. And I don't think he's being nefarious or malicious, just out of touch.
