Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by Anthony Styles on Feb 11, 2019 14:40:28 GMT 1, It matters a great deal actually. Particularly when we talk about a painting this skilful...that's because the concept here isn't ground breaking it's the execution that matters so in that context whether Mr Price painted really does matter. It's just an opinion so I don't mind if other people disagree. I think many artists would be disappointed to be known as a brand....they're Not all Warhol you know. I appreciate your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it.
I feel that concept, whether groundbreaking or not (which itself is a matter of opinion) should not be the threshold that governs whether it is acceptable for an artist to have assistance on his works.
The most prolific and famous artists in the world, even as far back as Da Vinci, had scores of artists working on their pieces, which they oversaw and contributed to where necessary.
Now I'm not comparing Mr Price to Da Vinci, in any respect, however I am saying that he is entitled to, as with any artist, assistance or contribution from any third party. Whether it be the screen printer pulling the screens, the person spraying an already cut stencil, or the sculptor who creates an item based on the artists concept.
These are of course my opinions, I just find it impossible to draw a line of inference on which artists can and can not have any assistance with their works, the measure of that assistance and medium.
Whether an artist is happy to be regarded as a brand or not i'm not sure, but what I do know is that if a product is created under a repeated name or bears a regular mark, it is in fact regarded as a brand. An individual becomes a brand in this respect, whether they choose to or not.
Just my 2cents on the matter. Either way, the pieces under the Lucas 'brand' are outstanding and breathtaking to look at in person. Those of you who have had that pleasure I'm sure will agree.

Lucas Price ๐ฌ๐ง Cyclops โข Burning Candy Graffiti Crew, by Anthony Styles on Feb 11, 2019 10:49:05 GMT 1, Always the same snide comments when a beautiful Lucas piece is posted.
I'm sure Kaws spent a lot of time sculpting his wooden sculptures personally and Hirst agonised over getting all those original pieces completed by hand himself.
What does it matter if Jeff Koons had a factory create his work on his behalf or he done it himself? Do we not now all accept that Banksy is a group machine?
He was the conceptual artist and the work produced is a vision of his creativity. Whether he painted it himself or Banksy hand pulled the screen prints he produced himself is neither here nor there.
Artists are brands, just like any other. Louis Vuitton manufactures much of it's leather wear in the USA, does that mean it is not an authentic French brand?
Bottom line for me is, it doesn't matter a diddly shit where it's made or by who. It's an incredible canvas both in painting technique and conceptual design. Period.
Hang that ball in your space and watch people dribble with excitement.

Retnaโs weekend meltdowns, by Anthony Styles on Jul 15, 2018 14:56:52 GMT 1, I love this guy's work but he's making it increasingly difficult for me to justify buying anything. He claims the 15k price for an unsigned print is due to 'hands in the cookie jar' and 'worldcup'.
This guy is a chump and his 'i dont give a f*ck' attitude is boring me now.

UV Protection Glass โข Museum Glass, by Anthony Styles on Jun 23, 2018 18:59:59 GMT 1, I would recommend museum glass for any high value prints, I always use it where possible. The difference is huge IMO.
Nothing like reflections taking away from a beautiful piece. In some cases the museum glass on my pieces is nearly invisible.
I'm sitting 2 feet away from a Huge Harland I Am The One, and I cant see a darn thing as a reflection. Totally different ballgame.

Removing crease/ fold lines from prints, by Anthony Styles on Sept 25, 2017 0:06:32 GMT 1, jesus. I would not recommend this approach. By all means good luck to you if you want to try but would never do this to any of my pieces. Go see Bignell and let the experts do it properly.

Banksy Artwork, VALUATION, by Anthony Styles on Sept 21, 2017 11:14:02 GMT 1, The last time I posted a check on a white nola here last month, the general consensus was ยฃ42k amongst forum members.
The recent auction prices suggest the price on this piece may have now improved in line with what was hammered at Christies, however until I see a white nola sell at a higher price at auction or see white nolas sell privately for more than 42 I would not change my opinion on it's value yet personally.
That doesnt mean to say the value is not more right now, I just prefer to see a more widespread price result to solidify a true market value improvement.
Just my 2cents.

Urban Art - Who to collect or not!, by Anthony Styles on Sept 4, 2017 20:27:06 GMT 1, Appreciate the comments FR but would you care to share any further insight into your Harland forecast? I ask as from what I see his work is always in high demand and sells rather quickly (with exception of a few not so wall friendly pieces).
I have also observed his work being heavily invested into by large collectors, and art buyers such as the soho house group, Hix restaurants etc which continue to offer exposure to high end clientele worldwide.
For transparency I do own a few pieces in my collection however it is not the main focus of my portfolio. I would genuinely be interested in your thoughts.
With regards to my views on some other artists mentioned, I feel the Pejac message is strong one and is well communicated through his work.
Artgrenade, only buy what you genuinely like. That way the fluctuations in art prices will not matter a damn thing. Some of the art I own has grown in value, other pieces have not however I really love all the works I own and they give me a lot of pleasure to look at on my walls.
Just my 2cents.

Invader original ink on graph paper, by Anthony Styles on Aug 28, 2017 21:25:39 GMT 1, Yep agreed Ricardo at Pauli is one hell of a framer. Im sure he would have done his absolute best on this as with every frame job he's done for me.
That doesn't mean to say that it would need to be professionally unframed if you wanted it. even if conservation hinges etc are used, removing them is also a skill.
Bignell would be my choice for that part if desired.
