£15 Guy Denning print, by Octopus UK on Aug 31, 2007 20:09:06 GMT 1, I know what you mean. Photocopies are usually very inconsistent in how they show blocks of dark colour - with light and dark patches in what should be a uniform shade. But this print looks very faithful (I guess) to the original. The authenticity is enhanced with the stamp and signature.
PS If you don't mind photocopies you might be interested in the bristol life series of prints. www.tfa.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/artists/guy_denning.htm

£15 Guy Denning print, by Octopus UK on Aug 31, 2007 18:11:44 GMT 1, The frame was from a local "hardware" superstore call Wilkinsons. £12 and it actually contained a nice black and white flower image, but that was taken out. It was adverised as 16 inches square, but accommodated the 40cm x 40cm print well. It's a glass frame and because the mount came with the print there is no contact with the glass. The backing is probably not acide free so I may need to put some barrier sheet in there.

£15 Guy Denning print, by Octopus UK on Aug 31, 2007 17:42:43 GMT 1, Hi, I finally found a frame for this print, here are images of it framed. The frame actually cost less than the print. I wasn't sure about the middle silver edge and was trying to remove it but I'm glad I didn't manage to do this because I think it works. Sorry for the reflections in the non-flash image.
Thanks crackawacka.

£15 Guy Denning print, by Octopus UK on Aug 4, 2007 10:20:15 GMT 1, Mine arrived yesterday. Nice image and ready mounted. I am thinking of getting a black frame but can't decide if I want a thin or thick(ish) width frame.

morallity v's moronic, by Octopus UK on Apr 1, 2007 20:19:47 GMT 1, I would of taken one of these prints with the intention of using it to make a swap or part exchange for another Banksy. I got some negative feedback for saying this. But don't we have a section on this forum for actually offering trades and swaps? On this scheme there would be two winners, I'd get my ideal Banksy and soemone (who wanted it) would get a Morons.
Of course when I got it I might of been so impressed that I decided this was the Banksy I'd like to keep - even with the word sh*t in it.

Customs and art prints, by Octopus UK on May 11, 2007 20:11:53 GMT 1, If the prints are bought from the UK by someone outside the EU they should not pay VAT (or at least reclaim it). 17.5% on £650 is £113.75 or $225. They might have to pay an equivalent of VAT (Sales Tax) or duty when the prints arrive in their country. When such a print returns to the UK then the (original) VAT becomes due.
I agree that if VAT has been paid once it shouldn't be paid again.

solution to the Art vs Street Art dilemma?, by Octopus UK on Mar 13, 2007 12:14:05 GMT 1, The irony is that this was Warhol's philosophy at the start of his career. Popular art for the masses. But look at the prices that his work (only 20-30 years old?) now commands. Out of the reach of many people who'd love a print of his.

Lurker out of the woodwork, by Octopus UK on May 22, 2007 20:43:52 GMT 1, Hi Sherlock, I'm sure you'll be able to hunt down some Banksy's soon. This is a great board and whilst I'm not a GREAT fan of Banksy, it has proved to be an interesting and stimulating place to hang out. I'm grateful that through this board I have been introduced to some interesting and delighfull art work.

bring out the linch mob ive been robbed!, by Octopus UK on May 31, 2007 15:39:42 GMT 1, Count yourself lucky. This time last year I spent £900 to buy 10 prints from a gallery in Paris. They arrived damaged. The gallery initially offered me a refund. Then did nothing. Then said they'd only refund *if* and when the insurance paid out! Now they have the insurance they are refusing to refund any money. This has been going on for 1 year and still no sign of me getting back my cash. I didn't pay by credit card This makes a bit of a mockery about encouraging cross border EU trade when if it goes wrong there is little redress. I hope you have better *luck* than me.

Think you may find this interesting, by Octopus UK on Mar 10, 2007 15:13:15 GMT 1, Banksy often used Christian images in his pictures. Would he every try something similar with the images assocaited with Islam or the Muslem prophet Allah? We can think back to the Danish cartoons of 2005 (2006?).

Deal of the day, by Octopus UK on May 8, 2007 17:21:27 GMT 1, The son of a neighbour is studying at the LSE and he lives quite close to Tate Modern (what luck!!!). I emailed him yesterday and he got me a signed copy of the two posters shown above. I won't see them until June though. Yesterday was the first time he'd been to visit the place!

Degree Shows, by Octopus UK on Jun 16, 2007 16:42:41 GMT 1, I wont the Somerfield's Baked Beans!
Last November I visited a student art show in St Louis and got this silkscreen by an Alex Petrowsky. I like the cartoon imagery of the piece and how the characters are not restricted to a single line/plane.

Your home is on fire - what print do you grab?, by Octopus UK on Apr 10, 2007 14:47:24 GMT 1, Many people on this forum have an impressive and extensive print collection but, along the lines of "Desert Island Discs", if your home was on fire, what print would you rush to save? Doesn't have to be a Banksy piece.
I don't own a Banksy of any description so my avatar largely gives away my choice. It's a geometric abstract work by Eduardo Paolozzi, listed at the Tate Modern site.
www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?cgroupid=999999961&workid=11112&searchid=30356&tabview=text
I'm lucky to own an artist's proof version of this work (from an edition of 300) so I get to see it every day, and it's near the door!
