Jean-Michel Basquiat 🇺🇸 Brooklyn, New York • Graffiti Art , by stjohn on Jun 27, 2007 8:09:46 GMT 1, They are also complete s**t. They were published about 6 years ago, J-M Basquiat died in 1988, thus they are little more than posters, albeit rather attractive ones. There is nothing about them that has anything to do with Basquiat other than they are after his designs, who cares if the estate authorised them, it's basically a callous way for them to trade on his name and make more $$$. Basquiat made a handful of Authentic prints in his lifetime, as far as I can remember it's about 20 (and that includes the anatomy portfolio of 18), the best one called back of the neck recently made $180,000 in New York, a long way from the crap coming up at CSK!
I hear what you say, but I disagree:
1. they are screenprints and not posters (I fully admit pulled after JMB's death and not by him)
2. they are of images created by HIM, and more importantly, of images which have not otherwise ever been released since the Estate have kept the originals.
Whilst I see the point you make, I disagree. See here where he is very much alive standing next to one of the original images (Ernok) which has now been made available in screenprint form after his death:

Jean-Michel Basquiat 🇺🇸 Brooklyn, New York • Graffiti Art , by stjohn on Jun 26, 2007 17:48:02 GMT 1, For those who are interested in acquiring a Basquiat print, I have spotted there are two coming up in a Christies auction on 18th July 2007. They are 'cheap' by comparison with several millions of quid for an original.
These prints are part of a set of 4 released by his Estate after his death and are of images which have not otherwise been released.
0436
Lot details After Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988)
Untitled (Head) screenprint in colours, 1983/2001, on wove paper, signed in pencil on the reverse by the artist's father, numbered 71/85, published by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, 2001, the full sheet, in very good condition,
Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000 British pounds
PRINTS & MULTIPLES Sale 5244 18 Jul 2007 London, South Kensington
Lot details After Jean-Michel Basquiat
Untitled (Ernok) screenprint in colours, 1983/2001, on wove paper, signed in pencil on the reverse by the artist's father, numbered 71/85, published by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, 2001, the full sheet, in very good condition, framed L., S. 1015
4,000 - 6,000 British pounds PRINTS & MULTIPLES Sale 5244 18 Jul 2007 London, South Kensington
Info from here: www.christies.com/LotFinder/lfsearch/SearchResults.aspx?entry=basquiat
Images can be seen here: www.f2gallery.com/artists/basquiat/index.html
Before anyone asks, I am not the person selling the ones above. I am just interested in his work as he was the first artist to bridge street to studio, and his work is seriously strong at the moment and can only go up - its just the prints seem a good way of having the images which are worth millions otherwise.
Hope you have found it interesting.

Banksy HMV Print, by stjohn on Jun 5, 2007 11:20:39 GMT 1, There is this unsigned HMV on ebay at the mo: 150128821240
The picture on this site in the prints section has a white banksy tag as part of the image itself, but the one on ebay does not. Does anybody know whether this is/was normal? Surely there was only one version?
Many thanks for any help.

When is next Banksy Print due out?, by stjohn on Jun 7, 2007 20:22:26 GMT 1, Now then. The next question is: how much does everybody think the next lot of prints will cost bearing in mind the way prices have been going recently. Is everyone gonna get a shock or what?

Banksy at Sotheby's this afternoon, by stjohn on Apr 1, 2008 15:49:59 GMT 1, $7500 for the signed CND? was that in good shape? damn, seems like a steal. Not a real steal when you add the 25% Buyers Premium. Whats with this anyway? They also take a commision from the seller too right?
But Danger Mouse's figures include the Buyer's Premium. One has to add VAT on the premium where applicable.

Jose Parla Italy, by stjohn on Mar 30, 2008 20:46:57 GMT 1, Just got back from Genoa, what a great weekend. Great work, great people, great party.
Can't afford, but wondered if everything is sold out, or is pieces were still available?

Blek Le Rat: Thames and Hudson Book, by stjohn on Mar 14, 2008 20:24:44 GMT 1, Book has come out in France in French, and out in the UK in May. I couldnt wait, so went onto amazon.fr and set myself up and ordered it in French - is mostly pics anyway. Is absolutely amazing IMO and well worth it for 22 euro if you are impatient and understand a bit of french!

Blek Le Rat, by stjohn on Mar 12, 2008 17:01:17 GMT 1, Rats were originally £1,500 each I think. Have a look at these pics from the original first Blek show at TLSG in Oct 06 I think:

Mikes are the same.

Finally found: José Parlá prints, by stjohn on Feb 13, 2008 20:26:27 GMT 1, It comes very well packaged (if that's any consolation?!). If a few people clubbed together presumably they could ship a few at once with one set of pack/ship costs?

Finally found: José Parlá prints, by stjohn on Feb 13, 2008 19:56:02 GMT 1, Thanks for the congrats. I too spent hours looking and took the plunge as I like it - looks great in the flesh, and getting any other piece by him is pretty impossible! I wouldn't have dreamt of telling anyone until I had my hands on one though!!!

Finally found: José Parlá prints, by stjohn on Feb 13, 2008 12:53:39 GMT 1, After months of searching for Parlá prints, I have come across a gallery in the States selling very rare prints!
I am not sure, but these prints (there are only 25) are possibly the very first ever produced by him. They date back to 2005 when he did a show at 222gallery in Philadelphia called "Memory Document".
The link is here:
www.222gallery.com/catalog/category.aspx?cat_id=85
This info is from my Cert of Authenticity:
pal•imp•sest (plmp-sst) n. A manuscript, that has been written on more than once, with the earlier writing incompletely erased and often legible. Literal graffiti, Parla’s signature script is scrawled over and becomes one with a halftone of a typical urban skyline, an image of anywhere. Created in collaboration with Coeur Noir Specialty Printers of Brooklyn, this edition was intended to be a reflection on the larger scale paintings and multi-media works presented in Parla’s one-man show at Philadelphia’s 222gallery in the winter of 2005. The print, on specially treated Bockingford 140# paper is a 3-color letterpress, numbered and signed in a series of 25.
They are USD700 plus packing and shipping. For those in the US that is OK, but for us in the UK, that adds a bit though (USD550) as they ship them flat. That makes them roughly about £625.
You can also see pics of the exhibition if you go to the main page, click exhibitions and scroll across.
Good luck if you are interested.

IP Tracking and Server spamming, by stjohn on Oct 18, 2007 13:56:01 GMT 1, If they choose to release prints online it is to be expected. If we knew they were releasing at their physical address they could not stop us waiting outside, or is it an ASBO next!
