Print Restoration Man!, by Mister Frame Man on Sept 5, 2008 8:44:24 GMT 1, Just thought I would share the knowledge after reading an increasing number of reports of members who have experienced problems with bad framing jobs (Obviously not carried out by the MFM team)
I know a couple of you have used my guy before and had very satisfactory results. He is based just outside Norwich and you will see by his website has years of experience and is "real old school".
www.levetons.co.uk/
I would be more than happy to arrange collection and liase with Barry (Restoration Man) should anybody require help and a reframe afterwards!
Should you contact him, just mention that I put you in touch.
Thanks, I hope this is of use.

Van In Scotland (And elsewhere now), by Mister Frame Man on Sept 3, 2008 13:57:59 GMT 1, For anyone North of the border, I will be sending a van up to you guys week beginning 16th September. Please let me know if anyone would like a visit! (I already know about the usual suspects) Thanks Yipeeee!!! ;D ;D ;D I didn't know you made deliveries up here too! I read about and see your tremendous work but always thought with postage etc that getting you to do some framing for me would be out of the question! Are these monthly/quarterly deliveries up North or just when the numbers justify it?
Usually have a van around up there every month!
Drop me an e mail!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 8:57:16 GMT 1, all my frames are Archival Framing and up to museum grade and come with a Certificate and info on the back of the frame all framers should do this unless you use gash framers that are not Members of the Fine Art Trade Guild
Never really felt the need for anything like this before as we know how damn good we are ;D
However, now doing more and more re frames and didnt realise how bad some framers actually are!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 8:54:28 GMT 1, What if your client gave you a damaged print to frame, i.e tape marks on the back of it or some other damage that can be hidden by the frame, surely this would render the certificate somewhat useless?
Perhaps include on the "MFM Certificate" the state of the print when received! ie: perfect condition when framed, or not as the case may be!
Could also state: Glass used, fixing methods used and any other info you guys consider to be useful.
We had a print for re frame yesterday which had been badly japanese hinged and badly manhandled so dents were left on the sides of the print. The framer had actually put a sheet of glass on top of the print to hide the fact this had occured and then glazed normally in front of the spacers using non ref glass to further hide the damage!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 6:05:33 GMT 1, Thanks for feedback,
Don't think need to worry about what other framers may be doing, everyone knows that if a piece is framed by John Jones then you are pretty safe. Having a MFM Certificate works in the same way as I would like to think that everyone on this forum knows the standard that we work to!
I would like to think that if you were trying to sell a framed image and you said that you had a MFM Certificate for that piece then you could ask a little more for it and your buyer would know that it was going to be "Safe".
Not looking to launch an industry standard or anything - That would be a nightmare!

IDEA - FEEDBACK PLEASE , by Mister Frame Man on Sept 2, 2008 4:38:31 GMT 1, Would appreciate some feed back!
After re framing several "bad" and "damaging" frame jobs from members on this board, Dale and myself have an idea!
It seems that members often buy framed art with very little idea of the quality of the framing and whether or not the print you are buying has been damaged in the framing process.
We figure that if we offer a "MFM Certificate of Archival Framing" with every piece we frame in the future then this would help buyers and sellers alike to buy or sell with confidence!
What do you think?
Would appreciate some feed back!

Framers in BRISTOL / BATH 🇬🇧 Who do you Recommend? , by Mister Frame Man on Jul 13, 2008 21:29:28 GMT 1, Misterframerman probably collects and delivers to Bristol. His work is exemplary, but affordable. Hence why several of the London galleries use him. PM me if you need a number.
Actually delivering a Matt Small Original down to Bristol in the next 2 weeks, so could collect if required!

David Choe Silent Dance back from Gary, by Mister Frame Man on Jun 23, 2008 9:28:34 GMT 1, Worse framing Ive ever seen. Really tacky and kills the image IMO. Trying to be clever with framing is a bad idea. Keep it simple rather than going with a council house style
Look forward to seeing your collection framed up in clip frames!

Colin Self: If Not Familiar........Check This!, by Mister Frame Man on Jun 19, 2008 6:28:50 GMT 1, I think that the response of this thread underlines how under rated Colin's work is and for a pleasant change how uncommercial he is......Good to see some fellow fans on the Forum though!

Colin Self: If Not Familiar........Check This!, by Mister Frame Man on Jun 18, 2008 21:10:43 GMT 1, Who is familiar with the work of Colin Self? If not check : www.pallant.org.uk for this major exhibition!
Fallout Shelter
I have had the pleasure of framing the work of Colin Self (Who hails from Norwich) for the last ten years. I have found his work to be controversial, ahead of it's time, provocative and under rated! In my opinion this up coming exhibition is one not to be missed this year - Press release:
"Colin Self: Art in the Nuclear Age 21 June – 12 October 2008 Pallant House Gallery, Chichester www.pallant.org.uk A leading figure in the 1960s British Pop Art movement, Colin Self (b.1941) is best known for his explorations of life during the Cold War period. While his work has depicted many aspects of modern consumer culture including glamorous Sixties models, hot dogs and stylish Art Deco cinemas, it has also addressed the darker side of the epoch: ferocious guard dogs on missile bases, women in fallout shelters and the threat of nuclear weapons. His meticulously rendered drawings and watercolours led the artist Richard Hamilton to call Self ‘the best draughtsman in England since William Blake’, but he is also an innovative printmaker, sculptor, painter and collagist, who continues to combine wit, originality and visual intelligence in his work. This major survey offers the most comprehensive overview of Colin Self’s work to date, and brings together over one hundred works in a range of media from the 1960s to the present day. Colin Self is arguably the artist of the nuclear age whose work brilliantly articulates the anxieties of the era."
