for the anti flippers, by otomi on Dec 12, 2014 13:07:55 GMT 1, I, for one, would love to understand the self-entitlement that comes with collecting prints. What makes you think you're entitled to a print at cost that I had to put some time and effort in the process to acquire for you and other 'collectors' Us flippers provide a service- a damn necessary one at that. If it were not for flippers, 9 out of 10 of you would never even have a shot in hell at acquiring the pieces we get. For all of those reasons, we are entitled to our profits we deem suitable for the print in question. Buy it or not, all stuff worth anything will sell. Just because you're a cheap ass who feels he is owed something which you are not, does not make flipping wrong. I've even started to help get buddies involved in this. A true service which benefits all parties will sustain itself forever. Who doesn't like good money for hard work? I know I sure do!! Capitalism is the way everything should be. Always. Forever. I know you are a troll but can't help it you are an unnecessary middle man. If flippers wouldn't buy up prints the people that want them could just buy them from source.

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by otomi on Nov 26, 2014 15:39:54 GMT 1, โข you guys are funny. โข I trust Andy, and the poster. โข Im sure the ones who can afford it/want it arent writing on here with their unprofessional opinion and have already contacted him. Black Apple has. I posted this to give a forum member who might want one an opportunity, and did not post this for a bunch of people to hijack the thread and authenticate the piece themselves. Sounds good. Sorry for the hijack.
Could someone please immediately wire that guy 200k and please don't ask any questions, he is a friend of a friend and people on here don't know anything about Banksy. It's on Twitter so you know it's legit.

Banksy Laugh Now Print, by otomi on Nov 26, 2014 11:43:33 GMT 1, I think specially "high-rollers" are likely to buy a fake. If Banksy made new editions of the canvas you can buy it cheaper than 200k from galleries. Generally for 200k you can buy something much better. The images don't show the whole canvas which is usually not a good sign. I would not touch it without a PC COA.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by otomi on Nov 15, 2014 20:45:29 GMT 1, Sisters use so much fog in there shows you can't see anything on stage - so just listen to them is almost as good gotta love them thou they are awesome otomi ha ha - I hear you. Where has all the dry ice and sense of darkness and menace gone these days? I got into the Sisters fairly early and saw them first time around the summer of 82. Loved the drum machine, dry ice, "silly" cover songs Jolene, Gimme Gimme Gimme A Man After Midnight and especially Emma. On stage Eldritch was a man of few words, but when he spoke he was usually sharp, cutting and very dry. Best Sisters gigs for me where they headlined were Brixton June 83 support bands were Flesh For Lulu and The Smiths. Also Electric Ballroom May 84 - which was the first tour Wayne Hussey was on and I remember much to my shame later on, being really impressed with him. I naively thought that then the Sisters were ready for more than indie chart success. Revisited later on as I really liked Floodland and less so Vision Thing - their most popular period, but live it was never the same thing for me as it was between 82-84. My favorite song might be Torch. I used to go to London (from Berlin) just to buy Sisters stuff (and the pubs). There was a store that had tons of promos, single and other "rare" stuff. Still have it all somewhere. I always collected something.
I started to listen to them in 86 in East Berlin. Wasn't easy to get their stuff.
I went to a Sisters concert not too long ago they still got it.

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by otomi on Nov 14, 2014 14:28:40 GMT 1, Not strictly a gig ticket , but this kind of fits in this thread as a nice bit of memorabilia. ...apologies if anyone thinks I've strayed a little too far off topic..... This was find of the year about 15 years ago when I went up the local rubbish tip / recycling centre ....someone had thrown out their 1960's autograph book and the pickers had found it. Anyway after a bit of haggling I ended up paying ยฃ200 for the complete book. Inside there was autographs from a lot of the minor 1960s UK stars of the day ..as well as some biggies like Pete Townsend , Telstars etc. But the prize was the typed questionnaire inside signed by George Harrison as well as piece of his jacket (the lining) provided by his mother Louise .....she was wonderfully notorious for cutting up George's jackets and sending to fans who asked for a keepsake much to George's annoyance. Also were 3 fully "signed" fan-club cards , one of which was sent and signed on the back by Louise Harrison....this one is definitely NOT signed in hand but printed or an auto pen example of their signatures , the other two I'm not 100% about being genuine either ....I think they are either signed by one or other of the Beatles for the others or Neal Aspinall / Mal Evans or secretarial signings. If you like this "stuff" - watch this movie - most of the early stuff was signed in hand by them:
www.imdb.com/title/tt2505938/

Best gig and sporting events you've been at. , by otomi on Nov 14, 2014 13:14:46 GMT 1, Sport: Lendl vs Chang, French Open 1989. Although never a fan of Lendl ( I was a big fan of McEnroe ) I suffered like hell with him. What a match. I still get goosebumps. My german fellows winning the world cup in '94 and 2014. And the European Championship in 1980 and 1996. :-) Hard to pick the gigs, a couple of memorable ones: Sisters of Mercy back in '88 or so Miles Davis playing at Hohentwiel Festival in 1989 Bowie, Pixies and Midnight Oil at Schuettorf open Air 1990 ( was lucky to get backstage tix and managed to 'meet' Bowie ) Keith Jarrett, Jack deJohnette and Gary Peacock at Paris Underworld at Roundhouse 2007 Depeche Mode at Royal Albert Hall Jeff Mills at Tresor Berlin and some very memorable events with Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Chris Liebing. I'd have liked to have seen the Sisters back in their hay day. Great band. Still listen to them now. Clips of gigs always look brill. So many great songs. Sisters use so much fog in there shows you can't see anything on stage - so just listen to them is almost as good gotta love them thou they are awesome

Make your own Invader!, by otomi on Nov 14, 2014 11:26:03 GMT 1, Hi! I made three of these, sold two and have one still avalible if someone is intrested! It's seven layers of foil, mounted on a 3mm thick board. PM if intrested! Thanks. Making copies for yourself is one thing selling copies is in my opinion not cool. But we had a long thing about the WCP ...

All HYPE or REAL talent?, by otomi on Nov 12, 2014 17:22:42 GMT 1, Rothko was promoted by the CIA and millions of dollars and now we have put people in prison for writing on a Rothko. ### OK? Wei wei is promoted as a political tool by the west as well. ###I feel "the west" does everything it can to not call out China on what it is. I find Wei Wei's shows great in every aspect. Great art with a great meaning. The pieces about the earthquake are terrific. Picasso copied every artist under the sun in his early career and plenty of other artists of that erar made similar looking primitive art but Picasso had the name, it was saleable. van Gogh wa signored by all the galleries and dealers and only after he died that his paintings became valuable. ### If it is salable people like it and most artists are happy about it. The art market comes after that. Millions of people go to see his work and no one forces them and they are not dumb sheep. Watch Picaso paint he is a master. (there is a movie forgot the name) He can create a whole world with a few strokes. Same happens today with dealers buying up all the art and paintings made by recently dead artists and manipulating the market to push prices up and therefore turning their name into someone who is important in the realm of art and art history. ###That might happen but if you only buy what you like it's not your problem. Tate modern has a lot of Junk and it's in tate modern only because it is or has been sold at auction for very high prices. ###It's a business and it probably works for them as they can sell those things later for more money, because once it's in the Tate it's worth even more.In a fictional parallel universe, Lets say Banksy made stencils on walls in the style of Blek and no one bought it and Banksy never met Hirst. ###His life until 2004. People still liked it and picked him over others. No one had to buy a bar code print but people did, without anyone telling them it's a great investmentLets say that Banksy continued making stencils on walls now and then and he wa signored by the media etc and twenty years later he still sells his canvased down the pub for fifty quid or dรฉcorรขtes a cafe wall wit a canvas stencil and has got no farther than that. ###He probably would have stopped and got some other job. I'm glad he didn't. Now even though he still makes the art on walls but no one is interested. Does it mean he has the same effect and place in art history in a parallel universe? Or does a place in art history depend on how many people buy into your particular brand of art and promotion? ###What point are you making here? If Banksy would be an unknown artist no one would know him? There are thousand of unknown artists maybe for a reason maybe not. In may neighborhood there are many street artist that do their thing for many years now but they are not as prolific, good or interested in becoming known. Of course it depends on how many people buy into your brand of art - literally and figuratively. I do think first comes interest by people and then comes the art market.

All HYPE or REAL talent?, by otomi on Nov 12, 2014 17:03:15 GMT 1, One thing that I like about Invader is the over all concept. He set up a game where he invades spaces and gets points for it. When it comes to street art that's what it is all about. Each Alias has a point value, if you where his sneakers you add up points. Looking at one piece on a wall is not going to send you to Nirvana but it can make you happy to find one if you like his work and he keeps pushing as what you can do within the limits he set himself. Almost all artists have style or medium they use throughout their career. Repetition is what most artists do. His gallery shows have some new medium each time. (Side note he never used any of the space invaders from the computer game ...)
About Banksy either you like his art or not. It really doesn't need a lot of explanation. He is great in creating hype around him but I don't think he is hype. He can paint, he can draw, he is creative, and took/takes a lot of risk to do his thing. He started it when there was only risk and no reward in doing street work. You had to be really passionate and committed to do what he did. The much talked about anonymity was a must when he started not a choice to create media interest.
If you read the books by those two guys it might make you appreciate what they are doing more. Many years ago I thought Fairey was a lame sell out but after reading his books and seeing some shows I respect him as a good artist (and business man).
On the other hand Blek might have been one of the early wheat paste/stencil guys but his show and his books are not on the level of other street artists. I love his stuff on the street but he doesn't transfer to the indoors well compared to lets say Herakut.

New Faile Print, by otomi on Nov 11, 2014 14:25:14 GMT 1, Love the care and attention Faile put in, but the images are becoming repetitious. *I'll get my coat* Yeah and Fairey is using that face too much

New Faile Print, by otomi on Nov 7, 2014 9:47:25 GMT 1, they are having a print because they are having a major gallery show. Im sure all the works at the show will be 30K+, maybe a few smalls for the riff raf like myself, but i think the print is a bone to throw to the people that go to check out the big pieces but cant afford them. I suppose they could have released the new york edition of the book instead of a print. at the end of the year everyone releases a print - December always has a lot of bills and taxes are coming up I was not dissing Faile at all. I love their approach how they keep the fans happy with low price releases. Book sleeves, blocks, tiles, prints - I think it's great. Many other artists could take note of it.
Never the less there is a pattern that many artists release prints at the end of the year.

New Faile Print, by otomi on Nov 6, 2014 14:48:48 GMT 1, I feel they did a bit of Manga around the Get Acquainted image - everyone else is doing it so I'm fine if they go in a different direction
