Jasper Johns 🇺🇸 Painter • Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by spirit on Jun 20, 2017 9:35:10 GMT 1, @christoffer gaddini : Thanks so much for the heads up!! I purchased a Flag 3, 0-9 and Target. Given the story, the details from the publisher and the provenance, these are a no brainer! Ha - we have very similar taste it seems. I got Flag 3, 0-9 and False Start 2 - and it was a toss up between False Start 2 and Target.

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 20, 2017 1:01:48 GMT 1, Very impressed by this first release by Avant Arte. Excellent packing job and the print is beautiful despite whatever methods were or weren't used in its printing. I absolutely love this print, but am a bit off by the tactics in the marketing of it. I don't think it was necessary to hide the fact that digital print methods were used and it was quite obvious that it wasnt a multi layered screenprint, judging by how avant arte's other screenprint by Conrad Jon Godly touted the number of layers in the description. Furthermore, creating a secondary account on here to deflect questions and spout misinformation was probably unnecessary. Besides that, Bravo on an efficient release of a goddamn gorgeous print! That does look fine and looking forward to receiving mine. Also agree with every word...

Jasper Johns 🇺🇸 Painter • Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by spirit on Jun 20, 2017 0:16:22 GMT 1, Thanks for the info. However, the elephant in the room is, If there were only to be 300 catalogs why would any of these prints be an edition of 400? As you said it is undocumented but it makes no sense to me to make 400 prints. I think the edition has to be lower than 400. Too bad, I guess we'll never know for sure. Still, I'm sure I'll enjoy the ones I picked up.
Printing 400 when you need 300 good ones doesn't surprise me at all - I would expect nothing less as printers always print "overs".
I find printing only 200 when you need 300 far more surprising! But I guess this explained by the fact they were hand-printed and not machine printed. So each edition was probably not all printed in one go...

Jasper Johns 🇺🇸 Painter • Pop Art, Abstract Expressionism , by spirit on Jun 19, 2017 22:07:06 GMT 1, Looked at these a few times, and decided against because of the lack of details. For all we know there could be 1000s of these knocking around or just one of each. Even at $150 this makes the possible risk vs reward equation into an easy pass for me. I assume you haven't called the publisher? I did today. They will give you all the information you need. These prints come with top provenance and documentation. They are printing in the same studio using the same machines and the regular edition. Just smaller size and not signed. Blue chip art from one of the most valuable artists ever. 99% of people on this forum wouldn't be able to own a johns. These are a no brainer. Call the publisher Did you ask them about quantities rosac? i.e. roughly how many of each they have/had?
It should also be noted that these are all between 35 and 46 years old if all printed between 1971-82. So def limited in some respect at least.
I'd also like to know when they first went on sale.

Really quite the bargain considering the background.

Invader Artwork, VALUATION, by spirit on Jun 19, 2017 19:34:42 GMT 1, I am also curious given the recent show and print release as to the value of this 2006 print. I have 22/100 w/ custom frame. A buyer has offered me $5,000 usd for it and I am conflicted bc that price has been seen for prints as recent as 2014. I've not seen much for sale prior to 2010 lately. 5k seems fair to both sides to me. i neither own nor want to own homeworks but i dont consider it a very strong invader I agree. Top dollar tends to be paid for the newer embossed prints rather than older ones it seems, with the exception of really strong older ones like Albino.
If I had a Homeworks and someone offered me $5k I would take it.

Invader Artwork, VALUATION, by spirit on Jun 13, 2017 11:46:40 GMT 1, I did hear that was the case. Guess that makes it all the more desirable. I can't quite believe the crazy prices that Invader is attracting at the moment, but what's a ball park figure? Are we talking £5k, £7.5k, dare I say £10k?? Certainly more than 5, probably more than 7.5. possibly as much as 10.
Anyone buying at these prices should ensure that they absolutely love the art, as there has to be a significant chance of a correction given the nature of the recent rapid and major increase in prices for which I am yet to hear any reasonable and convincing explanation.

Invader Artwork, VALUATION, by spirit on Jun 13, 2017 11:44:44 GMT 1, ... silver invasion was not available on-line ... you had to buy it at POW ... Are you 100% about that? - I was sure I had a silver invasion in my basket when I bought the red.
But perhaps I am mistaken and it was one of the other ones I dropped from my basket.
I hope you are right as it means I don't need to kick myself quite so hard or so often.

That was lucky, otherwise there wouldn't have been a print at all!

Invader Artwork, VALUATION, by spirit on Jun 13, 2017 0:39:43 GMT 1, Can't believe how much prices have gone up in the last year or so. What's the current GBP value of Silver Invasion (2009)? Don't know exactly - more expensive than yesterday and cheaper than tomorrow?. All I know is that I deeply regret having it in my cart on drop day along with a red and deciding that it would be a silly idea to buy both. Doh!

Invader Artwork, VALUATION, by spirit on Jun 13, 2017 0:31:58 GMT 1, ...my point is prices have basically doubled in the last month...
And that is what is so weird about this. Can anyone think of another established artist who has had such a sudden, swift and radical increase in price? Can anyone offer any rational explanation for it? I have never seen anything like it.
Looking back to first page of this thread in 2nd half of 2015 and people were suggesting 1.5 - 2k for a signed Albino. At that point the print was nearly 10 years old already. Fast forward 20 months and it is £7k... I think it is all very odd.

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 9, 2017 1:40:05 GMT 1, I miss the days when there were no mobile phones, I miss listening to house music in my car, I miss smoking weed while overlooking the Thames in Bermondsey with my friends, I miss driving to McDonalds drive through twice in one day, I miss playing pound up the wall, I miss the feeling that we could make millions by selling something or organising beach parties, I miss playing football, I miss...... What else do I miss? I miss the freedom of youth...................................... Life is short ~ enjoy it!
Well you can't go back to there being no mobile phones... but the good news is all the rest are totally still doable! I may be older than you and am about to spend more on a stereo for my car than I did on this print

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 8, 2017 0:50:43 GMT 1, The issue is the gallery says there is no digital printing (giclee) involved whatsoever. But the printer says there is... both can't be right. The combination of screen and digital doesn't bother me at all. Along with the embossing and varnishing it is clear a lot of thought, care, skill and effort has gone into the printing of these. That paint effect looks pretty complex for a screen. Maybe Graffiti Prints could give some thoughts on whats gone into this. The black and white one is a nice image, if you like it then why does it matter how its printed? As I said, regarding the print itself, it "doesn't bother me at all"
It does bother me a bit that the gallery is perhaps not being as "straightforward" about the printing method as they might be. The print method description on the sales page was unclear/unspecific at best, and when requests for clarification were made, what they said seemed to directly contradict what the printer themselves said when asked.

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 8, 2017 0:38:34 GMT 1, So many posts about the print quality. 1 screen would be the silver The giclee would be the paint texture 1 screen would be the gloss over the top of the giclee Then the emboss Not sure what all the issue is. Also there was a 100% pre sale, but there always is on these things. The issue is the gallery says there is no digital printing (giclee) involved whatsoever.

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 7, 2017 20:56:30 GMT 1, People complaining about the price being steep, certainly don't follow her work. well... just because it has been steep in the past, doesn't mean it isn't also steep this time!
Steep but worth it I think. Would much rather one of these than 3 or 4 average prints.
And compared to what people pay on the secondary for a lot of prints... very reasonable indeed.

Good to see they all sold out, not that it really matters but somehow makes splashing that amount of cash slightly more palatable.

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 7, 2017 17:59:33 GMT 1, I emailed the printmakers and [already gave you] the answer I was given: 'The foreground colours are printed digitally using fully archival Epson Ultrachrome inks and then the background areas and spot varnishes are screen printed.'
I emailed the gallery asking for clarification if any digital printing techniques were used on either print and I received this response: "330gr. somerset enhanced paper, mixed Screen Print technics selected high gloss varnish and embossed. No digital printing!"
Well both those responses cannot be correct that's for sure. I'm inclined to take the printers word for it...

Felipe Pantone 🇦🇷 Exhibition News • Contemporary Art , by spirit on Jun 7, 2017 16:24:25 GMT 1, They've answered all questions - read the thread.. They haven't really - they said all the info is on the webpage, but the info there is not 100% clear and unambiguous.
A simple clear statement like:
"This is an x colour screen print with embossing and varnish"
would be easy to make and most appreciated...

3 Signed WE THE PEOPLE, by spirit on Jun 7, 2017 12:54:24 GMT 1, Not numbered? Is there an edition size? The signed ones are an edition of 450 - I THINK....... I think that is the smaller 18 x 24 screenprints
These are 24 x 36 Lithographs
I think I read somewhere that these are limited to 3000 but might be wrong on that.
