Prints in Tubes, by hlarmy on Jan 7, 2012 11:04:25 GMT 1, Morning all
Does anyone know where you can buy heavy duty postal tubes - I've bought some off eBay in the past and they're generally crap.
I'm looking for the type you can hand over to the Royal Mail and know that despite their best efforts (!) it'll survive the journey with no damage to the print. The best ones I've received are from Nick Walker (large and thick cardboard) and Souled Out Studios (the blue ones that aren't made from cardboard - does anyone know what they are made out of as they're pretty much bullet proof)...
Alternatively if anyone has a huge stash and wants to get rid of them, let me know
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

WARNING, by hlarmy on Dec 31, 2011 10:41:03 GMT 1, Did you tickle it so much that it cracked up?
The Jago thread was good, this one has potential as well. Sorry Dan but I couldn't help but laugh when I read this. They were only about £10 weren't they so, I wouldn't bother with trying to get a refund!

What? So has the seller taken money from two people? What's the story here?

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 29, 2011 19:40:43 GMT 1, why would you possibly want to frame one of these in anything other than a stark white box frame? i can just see it now, matching ornate frame jobs to a spot colour
Agreed, box white frame all the way, although personally I wouldn't float like OC do. I've no doubt someone will try send theirs to MrFrameman for a bright blue painted ornate frame - I'd pay to see that!

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 22, 2011 12:05:13 GMT 1, Good post Jdwheeler... very valid point about the provenance issues with a lot of older, quite similar spot prints. This has made me very wary about buying in the past, and so it's great to know the history is solid and the piece genuine. Also this may also mean that with OC proof of purchase / CoA, these could in the long haul become quite sought after... I would also suggest that although I agree when buying art it's not a bad tactic to consider art as a sunk cost, I'm pretty sure this particular buy won't be a sunk cost
Martinm, apologies for costing you £3k but I look forward to receiving a PM thanking me in February when the two are framed together and on the wall

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 22, 2011 8:37:39 GMT 1, all things being equal (cost and likeability), do you think the Benzyloxylurea (smaller edition, woodcut) or the Lanatoside (larger of the prints, more spots) is the better buy.
That's a difficult question to answer. I spent a day weighing up the two and went for the Lana because it's a larger print and although I originally preferred the colours of Benzi (I wanted a classic Hirst spot print), I thought the colours of the Lana would more closely match the Riley print I have (it is also nearly the size of the Riley whereas the Benzi is smaller). For that reason, along with the fact I missed out on the original price of £3,300 by one which meant the Benzi would be £1k more (although I gather the Lana has now moved up by 20% as well) meant that I pulled the trigger on the Lana.
Other things to consider is that Benzi is a smaller edition (55) and is a woodcut (with deckled edges), whereas Lana is a higher edition (100) screen print with 'sharp' edges. I'm not sure whether a screen print is nicer as I haven't seen both in person and although I gather the woodcut's are very nice, I would imagine both are stunning in person.
Either go with your gut instinct, toss a coin or check your bank balance and make a decision. You'll be more than happy with both I'm sure

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 21, 2011 19:55:15 GMT 1, Is 3K a good price for Lanatoside B at all ? Or will it instantly lose value ?
Surely it doesn't matter unless you plan to flip it? I have no idea what it would sell for on the secondary market in the next year but I have no doubt it will be worth a lot more than cost in 5 years time, and in the meantime you'll have an iconic piece of art on the wall until you do decide to move in on

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 21, 2011 15:17:05 GMT 1, sanchorockin78, I'm afraid that wasn't my photo - I'd also love to see some more though if anyone plans on going down there.
jdwheeler, I agree - I've been tempted by the gold / silver ones for nearly two years. So glad I didn't buy one now.
By the way, for those interested, these are being launched in January and won't be sent out / available to collect until end of January / early February.

Damien Hirst Spot Prints, by hlarmy on Dec 21, 2011 10:39:22 GMT 1, i caved
Which one is that Volvic; I'm hoping it's Lana as I bought one of those as I wanted a classic Hirst spot print. I also think that framing this and the Riley Olympic print together in the same way would look pretty damn nice!
Not a fan of the OC framing!

New POW Print Release, by hlarmy on Dec 16, 2011 20:01:34 GMT 1, Back in the snowy shires. Here is the silver Invader. iphone photo but I think you can see the silver really sings. With careful framing this could be stunning.
That looks great HB - very jealous - I've bought some amazing art this year and not had to F5 once. I made up for it today and F5 for hours but had no luck... congrats to all you got one. I've have to try and trade for one once the prices have settled...

Barcode - bagged it at last!, by hlarmy on Dec 15, 2011 23:33:38 GMT 1, I should really know what the meaning is behind this print but don't; can anyone enlighten me...
Great to see Banksy back to his best; loving the new work in the past few weeks. Popped down to see the new one in Bristol last night, very simple but brilliant...

Banksy @ The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, by hlarmy on Dec 15, 2011 18:29:53 GMT 1, I knew it wouldn't take long
Of all the brilliant Banksy street pieces they could have used in the article, and they go and take something not by Banksy! Perhaps the editor is buying up Hanksy works and hoping to turn a profit by publicising it

Wtb: banksy strawb donut, by hlarmy on Dec 13, 2011 20:22:59 GMT 1, So if strawberry is £2,300 how much does that make chocolate?
Historically less than Strawberry (with no comment as to the value of the strawberry version!)
Assuming Zippy doesn't mind me jumping on his thread (consider it a bump ), I am looking for a Chocolate Donut. If anyone has one, preferably unframed, get in touch

Banksy • Napalm Print, by hlarmy on Dec 12, 2011 8:46:29 GMT 1, Napalm 100%, a classic Banksy - older and a lower signed edition. Nola is overpriced, Napalm is underpriced, in my opinion of course.

Kaws • Sponge Bob KawsBob Set, Yellow, Black, Red, by hlarmy on Dec 7, 2011 22:37:40 GMT 1, And Kaws donated the print to the museum, it's up to them to sell it how they want and not unusual to give the option to the high level donors first.
Well said - perhaps this is also a very shrewd move by the artist, effectively donating $120k to a museum and getting your art into the collections of some high end collectors...
I do feel for the museum staff now who are probably being inundated with calls from all over the World when there'll probably be very few for sale to the general public...

How to buy a Damien Hirst for £7.50, by hlarmy on Nov 18, 2011 23:50:35 GMT 1, I'm struggling to get my head around this concept - are you effectively buying a digital image for up to £500 - interestingly it appears that many are buying these...
Is this a joke / fad / the future of art!

WTB 1st Saturday (dog) Charming Baker £ waiting , by hlarmy on Nov 10, 2011 18:57:41 GMT 1, Have you tried this guy/gal:
urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ebaychat&thread=86363&page=1#852133
I remember seeing one on the Bay not long after the release which went for quite a bit, but that was probably driven up by the hype of the show etc. I know someone with a full set but he's a dick and probably won't entertain the thought of splitting them up...
