Art made by designers, by faute on Aug 16, 2020 15:04:15 GMT 1, I start to be quite interested in art made by designers. I have not found a thread here and I thought other members could be interested. I see a link with "urban art" as it's often easily accessible.
For example, I like Ronan Bouroullec drawings. I don't own any. The wrong shop releases prints by him on a regular basis. www.thewrongshop.co.uk/
I also love Jaime Hayon. Edition cophenhagen released three prints. I have one of them www.editioncopenhagen.com/1467/jaime_hayon_original_lithographs_and_prints_for_sale
If anyone is interested, Design Miami is actually selling a collection of one-of-a-kind and limited-edition drawings, prints, shop.designmiami.com/collections/design-for-globalgiving
What do you think of Bouroullec and Hayon drawings? And art made by designers in general? Do you have any ressources to buy work?

BANKSY Gross Domestic Productโข, by faute on Oct 5, 2019 21:59:51 GMT 1, Do you think the items marked "from an edition" could be a timed edition release with one per order?
If yes, how much could cost the flower thrower?
If such a superb signed print would be affordable to many, it would be great. I hope so.

Advice on art please, by faute on Mar 23, 2017 21:29:57 GMT 1, I agree, but wanted to add my 2cts...
[...]Can anyone please advice I want art i like obviously, but i also dont want to make any mistakes and it be worthless in years too come, who would you advice to buy that might retain value or increase maybe?[...]
If I were you, I would be more interested in why/when pieces of an artist increase or decrease in value (for short term or long term) and how to evaluate the price, than "who".
Also, you have to know how long you plan to keep your pieces and/or if you would want to be able to sell quickly in the short-mid term (some artists retain value, could greatly increase in value in the long term, but don't have a strong secondary market; to the opposite some could greatly increase in value, but only in the short or midterm).
If you learn the "rules" that dicate prices and fluctuations (I don't know enough to give you any rules), you can apply to the artists you pick according to your taste. If you know why you bought something, you love the piece and the artist' work, it's not a huge problem if your piece lost some value and you can learn where you were wrong (if investment was a big factor). Maybe, your taste will change, but if you buy slowly, think thoroughly, you will certainly still like the piece. To the opposite, if you buy because someone told you this artist will gain value and you simply like it (but not love it)...you might end up really losing and not even learning much....
My 2cts is if you don't have taste, don't invest in art or wait for the next big financial crisis . If you have taste, learn why you like something and the rules above, ask why, discuss but then trust yourself more than anybody.

Walled Off Hotel: Is it Art, philanthropy/advocacy, both?, by faute on Mar 21, 2017 21:45:45 GMT 1, [...]However, the publicity of Banksy, the includance of it becoming Banksys website (the only subject), that Banksy is running it, yields that the whole thing is a work of art. Surely, it could have been opened, managed by some 'third party', there could have been a couple photos on Banksys site showing some of the individual works. This would have created the same awareness, interest, movement to the area.[....] I see it as a bit of everything, and I see this part differently. I feel it that he wants the project to succeed. Maybe too much. I have a lot of respect for what he did, because now he took risks. This could upset some people from every sides. I mean, I don't think it will do real harm, but he took some risks for his career. I see it as the product of a responsible free artist. And I have a lot of respect for that. Even if I do not like everything (for example, the "out of order" elevator is a lot too kitsch ...or cynical to me).
Usually, "smart" people who have "succeded" try to avoid upsetting too many people (if we forget the ones creating meaningless controversies to make a name for themselves), instead of being free. From an outside perspective, I see it as he took risks (more than the money he did put into the project), real people are working there and thus he is trying to make it a success.

REVS is back?, by faute on Mar 19, 2017 12:45:33 GMT 1, I simply used this subject to ask something. I believe REVS had his only gallery show in Philadelphia in december 2000 at Space 1026 with Steve ESPO Powers to raise money for the lawyer. Does anybody has pics from the show or from one or some of the pieces? I have never seen pictures of the pieces and I would love to see them.

Bast โข Visconti Print, by faute on Mar 17, 2017 10:09:48 GMT 1, I don't get the interest level in this. Is it because of scarcity or some other reason? I choosed not to buy this one, but I like it and I think it's a great buy.
One reason I could give apart from the history that has already been given and that BAST prints are often, while not unique, an original on paper:
Banksy, december 2004, regarding BAST: "His art is fast and loose and cheap, which is strangely why it endures, it's punchy and it has value"
My favorite BAST pieces are actually often still the ones that look the most cheap and fast. It's like I listen good music and it gives my energy. I like very much the new direction and his last works (I have not seen the new canvas in person), it's great that he always evolves (amazing how his work is recognizable, while different), but I still love the most punchy ones...I think this print has some punch. A great BAST is music to me.

Banksy, Walled Off Hotel, GIFT SHOP, by faute on Mar 6, 2017 22:36:05 GMT 1, That will devalue all the Banksy prints that sell for thousands on here ouch! The financial value, but not necesssarily the sentimental value. But, it would depend...
I have "only" one print and I'm not rich. I would laugh if he would be killing the market. No problem. But, I would definitively not laugh if he was doing it only with prints.
Rich "VIPs" with great big unique canvas would see the value of them increase and the average Joe who spared money to buy prints would be fucked financially. I very much doubt he would to that.
Things look better with a price tag: no problem if he kills that for me. But, in his case, it looks a lot better if he is kind of a heroe. Cynical, but doing stuff like the "Walled off hotel". Killing the price of prints of the average Joe and letting untouched the price of things owned by the super rich...Ouch...I don't believe that...
For me, "ni dieu ni maรฎtre", but the value of Banksy artworks (financial and sentimental) is really dependant of how you perceive him and all his output...

Dran โข Learning To Fly, by faute on Dec 15, 2010 22:13:15 GMT 1, possibly....but to produce 250 semi-unique handfinished pieces (on 3 great platforms) is a great effort
Sure, but, I agree with the the other guy. And maybe too much effort...I really hate this concept. I feel it like forcing the artist to make something, which looks unique, in order to have the right product for the market at a particular point of time.
I remember when they did the Mickey with BAST, where all would look different. I had really look at BAST stuff and bought prints. And suddenly there was 180 people who seemed really totally fan. Because, for sure, I did not buy. People were explaining how it was fantastic and cheap, because hand-finished, semi-unique and blablabla...At, 1000$ and then ยฃ on ebay, it was a bargain, etc...But, most of these prints were not good...And the price of the print got divided on the secondary market at the end...And many did not get the right picture of the work...And I'm not sure these prints helped on the long run...
These DRAN prints are different. But, if you do 250 pieces that quick, I think you do illustration. Nothing less, nothing more. It can be nice, but I cannot take that very seriously. Personally, I rate Dran. I have not bought before. Now, it would take years before I would look at it again (but I don't put the fault on him). I might be an exception, so who cares?
I believe it's not easy to put a show and sell stuff and bring money. So, I don't give lessons.
But, when I feel pieces are made to make it different (which is the case from the pictures above). When I read more about hand-finishing, and how much it's hand-finished and uniqueness than the piece, I would have real trouble to buy. Good effort. Sure. Realistic? Will that help in the long run?
Sorry about the length. I so much hate this concept. I do like MBW maybe simply because how much he made fun of the hand-finishing...This is more elaborate, sure...But, how much time did he have to make more than 250 art pieces?
(Of course, if you like a piece, it should not change)

Anthony Lister x Hello Kitty, by faute on Dec 10, 2010 17:27:11 GMT 1, How is Hello Kitty more Chilling than a Ben Eine Handbag?
(Almost) Nobody would claim that a Ben Eine Handbag is a piece of art.
Artists working for brands, selling products, etc. is different than this. Do you consider an Anthony Lister' mask in general a piece of Art or simply a product? Do you consider a Anthony Lister Hello Kitty mask a piece of art or simply a product?
A product can be cool and nice...But, while the lines have not always been clear in street art, they are really blurring here...
The show in MOCA (supposed to be the biggest in a museum regarding street art in general) is supposed to be partly regarding the influence of some artists on skate culture, etc. the link with hip-hop, etc.
With these Hello Kitty shows, we go from how some artists influenced some popular cullture to how some s**tty culture (or not if you like, but which was not really part of the artists backgrounds) influences a group of artists in general (if it's not exceptional)...This problem does not exist with a Ben Eine Handbag (where I don't see any problem; I don't think there is anything "edgy" in street art) ...
But, if we see many shows like that, many things like Hello Kitty stuff, I don't think that we could still say that what comes from street art in general should be more recognized as Art (by the art establishment)...indeed, maybe some are too recognized because of some actual popularity...
To summarize: -a Ben Eine handbag has to do with """street art""" being totally mainstream and popular... - this has to do with the "Art"? itself

Anthony Lister x Hello Kitty, by faute on Dec 10, 2010 15:54:55 GMT 1, What's your point? Are you OK with the fact that at least three artists have released hello kitty prints in the last 5 weeks or so? Does that not trouble you? Have street art and advertising merged into one entity now?
This Hello Kitty thing is actually organised by a member of the curatorial committee of the show at MOCA in April. lol
Check this and maybe you'll have your question answered in part (I say in part, because I think like you that's serious s**t, but everything should not be put in the same bag; ""street art"" is still diverse...): www.rrockenterprises.com/
But, in fact, I don't know at all the guy and had an opposite impression previously, so let's be nice. Pieces are on sale here: www.sanrio.com/smallgift/artshow
Nuart, if by any chance you read this, what do think of all of that? (to avoid confusion: I ask Nuart, because I know he cares about street art and he organizes in the field, so I would be interested to read his opininon; not that he has anything to do with that to be clear)

Choose Your Weapon Ebay Price, by faute on Dec 10, 2010 15:12:39 GMT 1, I only want to say one thing to people TOTALLY NEW in collecting/buying art if there are some and who have not much money. Don't hesitate to flip if you can and do not feel bad about it (if you do it with some manners).
I'm actually clean with regards to flipping. Long time ago, I thought it was bad. And, it certainly often was: because, some artists were putting things at an affordable price for people to have. And of course, this would destroy it and its meaning. But, this period is 90% over. It's a big business, with a lot of hypocrisy. So, i still believe flipping for profit is wrong if you would ask a favor from an artist, because you budget is tight or a special piece, etc.
But, I also realized that many people would buy mainly to resell. They would simply wait for some time. So, what's the difference between people having originals on all their walls and buying a print because it's good value and resell after 2-5-10 years vs someone who sells it after 2 days.
I prefer the flipper actually. Because, it does not artificially increase the price.
You buy a print at a normal price online, you resell and go and buy something with that money from an artist who does good art but has difficult time right now to sell. It's good.
Many artists did attract money from resold Banksy. Many artist did benefit in putting low prices. 101 Urban Art 2006-2008 economics: the lowest you put the price, the fastest it can go high. The thing is what you do with the money. If you buy good art , flipping is all good IMHO.

Mr Brainwash Show "Under Construction" MIAMI, by faute on Dec 8, 2010 17:53:01 GMT 1, I prefer this:
But actually, is it more? - wannabes in the art establishment; - people buying ""street art"" prints believing there is something edgy in it: - etc.
I'm not sure that the conservative art establishment really gives a s**t about Mr. Brainwash...

Mr Brainwash Show "Under Construction" MIAMI, by faute on Dec 4, 2010 15:41:15 GMT 1, I dont hate Brainwash, i just dont find his art particularly interesting, inspiring, or unique. I agree that he is the warhol of this genre, its art for arts sake, to me its repetitive images made for people who want the look of "urban art", without the urban, and sadly often without the art. edit - urban art should have had "'s round it....
I do like Mr. MBW. I don't own anything signed MBW. The only thing I could contemplate buying is the batpapi/catmama. Would I buy a piece of art? Not really. Consciouly, I would buy a collectible (if not too expensive).
Where I differ from you is that you look piece by piece and think about the quality of the piece. Of course, it's s**tty. But, is Fairey Hello Kitty print art? Seriously, on what accout would it be? It's simply a collectible. That thing should normally be an open edition...
There is nothing new intrinsically in the Mr. Brainwash thing. Read REVS for example in Autograf, the book from 2004, explaining his views on graffiti art. Put some s**t with a number on it, limited, etc...and then people think they are Picasso...REVS defines some of the s**t like Rock n Roll memorabilia...I totally agree. And it goes very far in this scene...
So, to me, the MBW thing put something on the table in putting it like crazy for real. The ebay listings of some of his stuff are hilarious. When I see the quanitity of paper from MBW, I want to puke, but I laugh. Nobody knows for sure how this will end...so there "he" adds something unlike many....
The crazyness about "signed banksy" is it about 1) art 2) flipping-investment or 3) collectible? What are the %? People are often called "fans" in this "scene"...It goes very far in urban art...and now in ART in general...
What I expect from MBW is great kitsch spectacle and s**tty limited products (you can make it big...s**t can be big...the biggest it is, the best)...Limited but a LOT,,,...When he does, his brand is more interesting than many to me...But a lot like Banksy, it does not mean that you need to own to appreciate...and here is the biggest contradiction between street art and many many many "fans" (including me sometimes)...and maybe some of the answer of sausages' question...MBW is not the culprit...and it's good performance art to me...Stormtro0pers are great lol, what is the problem?
I dont hate Brainwash, i just dont find his art particularly interesting, inspiring, or unique. Banksy โข Choose Your Weapon Print, by faute on Dec 1, 2010 0:22:15 GMT 1, Just wondering... wouldn't this be a nice companion for the new Banksy?
I guess it depends also of the colorway you get. By far, I would choose this weapon instead:
I don't really get the Fairey print. While I'm still unsure I would buy, I hope Banksy would release all these colours.

BAST - A shot in the dark, by faute on Nov 30, 2010 15:19:19 GMT 1, I am not sure they are necessarily "fake". They have appear before described as posters made some time ago with Agnes B.
But, what is clear is that they are only a printed scan of the image. If you expect something valuable, a nice "BAST print", you will certainly be quite disappointed. If they look fine for a "BAST print", we don't have the same eyes...

Visit PARIS ๐ซ๐ท France Street Art, Galleries, Events, by faute on Nov 29, 2010 13:02:26 GMT 1, I don't know exactly, I took the picture from his flickr www.flickr.com/photos/ldvrnht/
But, I just love how the paved street goes slightly down...the very official "libertรฉ - รฉgalitรฉ - fraternitรฉ" with the flag opposite...a small "dรฉfense d'afficher" on the way and some sad 20th century crappy artchitecture all around...I found it works perfectly with this piece made to move slowly...

24 in. H x 24 in. W x 2 in. D

BAST - A shot in the dark, by faute on Nov 22, 2010 14:44:52 GMT 1, If you would like a Marylin, I need to sell one print before mid-december....
Not signed (it comes from Gallery Scene). On architectural plans. But, it's the earlier version with Yves Saint-Laurent below the eyes.
Not unique (I have seen a picture of another one; a guy was then reselling it as unique on ebay a couple of years ago, obviously that's not the case), but rare I believe (I mean red paster from the original screen; regarding Marylin on paper, there is also something like a varied-edition of 10 and Drink Balentine of 4)
PM me if you're interested.
PS: Are you keeping your Savalas rolled lol...This thing is so fragile...

BAST - A shot in the dark, by faute on Nov 20, 2010 13:03:18 GMT 1, I believe there is at least a small canvas, one color (red?), quite rough, of only part of the head (the part above the cup). I have seen a picture long time ago. But, I think it was on the floor in Faile' studio.
I tried to find a paster of this image around 3 years ago. I did not find and was surprised when Vegas had one later. Good luck, but it won't be easy to find and get one.
BTW, has someone ever seen a Savalas in an other form that on thin paper?

For Sale- Mau Mau - Don't Care Bear - Original Drawing, by faute on Nov 12, 2010 11:43:12 GMT 1, I have a very special piece by Mau Mau for sale.
It's the original "Don't Care Bear ". The drawing that Mau Mau used to do the print. The size is 20.5 cm x 28 cm.
I have bought it in March 2008 directly from the nice people at Souled Out Studios. Therefore, this will certainly not go on ebay (except with a byn if we agree before with a buyer). I don't really have a price in mind. Please just send me an offer if you are interested (or/and ask questions about the piece).
I'm looking to sell not trade. Now, I would also really like this piece to go into the hands of a person after his work. Thus, if you're a fan, you would like the piece very much and don't have cash... I will certainly have a look at what you could propose (but, I would not trade for another piece by Mau Mau, since this is the one I like the most).
(as you can see in the picture if you have good eyes, the piece has been a bit bent in the middle; it's more visible on the backside and I did not try to flatten it) (sorry for the bad picture, I will try to do better later)
(edit: I have not been on forums lately; my pseudo has usually been fautebol on other forums)
