Lazarides Information, by gm on May 2, 2006 23:59:59 GMT 1, Thanks for the pics, BoE ;D
I go up or down or across Greek Street at least 3 times a week but I've still not managed to drag my arse through the door. It's one of those places that I'm only ever at when I'm on my way somewhere else

Invader โข Invasion Kits IK, by gm on Dec 13, 2006 20:02:27 GMT 1, I think the kits are original - the artist is allowing you to 'participate' which I think is quite cool.
Fair enough, sensible answer, helps me understand how people other than myself see it. Thanks.
Galaxians was always my favourite to play on a tabletop.

Ah, but I did... along with pretty much every kid/teen who had access to biros and graph paper in 79/80. We were doing exactly the same as what sold for several hundred quids in Laz recently. It was usually in our maths exercise books.
Also see my further up post about the origami paper.
I have no need to do it any more.
Is it only art if somebody pays money for it?
Is it art at all if nobody ever sees it?

I'm not on about the prints, and I'm not on about the street pieces - have a look in the Space Invaders London thread - I bloody love em. It's the "invasion kits" idea that I don't get - is it "an original" if you have to assemble it yourself? Original would be the guy who designed Space Invaders in the first place, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't the guy who gets โฌ75 for 80 small square pieces of china.
I wouldn't pay 10p for one cos (a) I know I could do it myself if I wanted to (we're starting to talk in circles here, and not just very expensive designer-label circles), and (b) I think they're a load of bollocks.

Invader โข Invasion Kits IK, by gm on Dec 12, 2006 13:05:47 GMT 1, It's a signed and numbered piece. You don't have to put it up on a wall. Reminds me of the days when I used to think, umm that Banksy canvas is ยฃ450 for a small picture with a bit of spray paint on it, anyone could do that!
I have no problems with pictures, cos I'm crap at drawing/painting and couldn't do it myself. I am willing and happy to pay for an image that says something meaningful to me.
However, I don't see the point of paying other people for stuff that I can do myself, whether it's little bits of tile or haircuts.
I was making space invader murals for my bedroom from sheets of origami paper in 1979, when I saw my first SI machines and got addicted to the bloody things.

Invader โข Invasion Kits IK, by gm on Dec 12, 2006 0:54:50 GMT 1, Let me get this right - you send him โฌ75 and get back 80 small ceramic tiles, with which to make up something of his design and stick up on a wall "under his name"?
You pay Space Invader for the privilege of advertising on his behalf.
If you like the moaics concept, why not go somewhere like www.mosaics.co.uk/acatalog/Craft_Mix_Box_1.html and get 2250 small ceramic tiles for ยฃ28.92 (+ VAT) then use your own imagination?

Help Me!, by gm on Oct 5, 2006 8:40:31 GMT 1,
I don't.
I'm not keen on her stuff at all - it comes across to me as what a 14 year old emo kid might doodle while she's on the phone to her mate.
However...
Give Laz a call. There was one of the chocolate pictures downstairs for the duration of the Stench show. I don't know if it got sold tho, but it's worth asking.

PRICE RISES AT LAZINC, by gm on Jun 22, 2006 9:46:30 GMT 1, That could possibly push the ebay prices up a bit too - people will look at Laz for the 'real' price and then anything less than that on ebay is going to seem like a bargain, isn't it?

Its A Wonderful World, by gm on Oct 14, 2006 0:05:26 GMT 1, The Queen canvases last night were ยฃ1000+vat Most of the other stuff I saw was priced up at ยฃ3000+vat The prints were ยฃ95 vat inc.
What is it with the +vat crap? That really annoys me. Don't make me do mental arithmetic, just tell me how much actual money I'll need to part with.

Its A Wonderful World, by gm on Oct 9, 2006 19:38:36 GMT 1, Laz are open weekdays 11am to 7pm. I'm not sure what the times at weekends are.
I'll be at D*Face on Thursday, along with a daughter.
You could post about that on another forum if you wanted to. Another forum has been very quiet lately. I wonder how long it will stay that way after Death & Glory?
I think a few from hereabouts are off to the Blek show on Thursday.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Mar 24, 2006 9:18:24 GMT 1, Just managed to get into the Lazinc website.
Last time I looked, about 2 weeks ago, the Balloon Girl on 2 canvases was priced up at ยฃ2100 +VAT, and I was seriously considering maxing out my credit card.
Today... ยฃ4500 +VAT
And that's the other thing I hate (and not just with Lazinc - anywhere): "+VAT". Just let me know how much it's ACTUALLY going to cost

I understand that, but can't agree with it, and even if my lottery numbers come up on Saturday there's no way I'd pay it. I don't care how famous the name is, I still like to think I'm getting value for money `
Walked past again last night and saw the phone box. Hmm. If it had been planted on the corner of Oxford Street or something it would have been fantastic. Planted in the middle of a gallery space it doesn't have the same effect.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Mar 22, 2006 16:01:19 GMT 1, Noticed that the Lazinc gallery's open now, but I was in a hurry and didn't have time to stop and gawk. There's a stuffed squirrel in the window and a big Donwood on one wall.
I haven't been able to get into the Lazinc website for about 2 weeks now. Front page loads ok but when I hit the Enter button I get a 404
Edit: And as for the prices - feckin ridiculous! Last time I looked on the Lazinc site there was a Laugh Now sprayed on to a wooden pallet and priced up at something like 6 grand + vat. Yes, I know it's an original Banksy but the pallet probably came out of a skip, and how long does it take to apply a stencil and squirt a bit of paint on? Not worth it at all. If he'd chopped down his own tree, hand carved the planks and lovingly assembled the pallet himself too... it'd still be overpriced.
He's pricing himself (Lazarides is pricing him) way out of the market that made him popular in the first place.

New LAZinc Gallery?, by gm on Feb 27, 2006 15:10:02 GMT 1, I took a stroll down Greek Street at lunchtime. If you're walking down from Soho Square, the soon-to-be gallery is on the left, a bit further down from the Pillars of Hercules.
They've got one piece which I think I recognise from Santa's Ghetto in the front window, but there are cloths hung all round behind it so you can't actually see what's going on nside.
There's no indication outside of when it will be opening.
