POW Price Increase, by gm on Mar 30, 2007 0:17:05 GMT 1, 2 days ago this forum was very quiet. Lots of new people with big views all of a sudden.
And what's bad about that? Don't want to get all stagnant and inbred here, do we?
Welcome aboard, n00bz.
Now... < cranky old git mode >
POW are a business, not a charity, get over it and move on.
Nobody's being forced or made to sit at their PCs pressing F5 F5 F5 and then getting stroppy when the system crashes because of the amount of people pressing F5 F5 F5. It's like sitting in your stationary car on the M25 and moaning about the bloody traffic, or going up Glastonbury Tor and thinking it'd be nicer if there weren't so many tourists
That said, I'm genuinely sorry for those who got prints in their baskets that later vanished - better luck next time!
( And I don't care if that is in the wrong thread - I've typed it already and can't be arsed moving it elsewhere )

POW - licence to print money...., by gm on Mar 29, 2007 19:56:20 GMT 1,
Er... yes... is that not the whole point of running a business?
I guess you didn't get a print today.
I wonder if you would have posted the same message had you been successful?

No New Releases, by gm on Feb 28, 2007 15:00:59 GMT 1, or the fact that they treat people with contempt and expect them to spent 12 hours a day in front of a pc just to get a print!!
What, have they hired someone to stand behind you with a gun at your head and not allow you to step away from the keyboard now?
You need a reality check.

POW just announced no LA prints till next year, by gm on Nov 28, 2006 12:23:38 GMT 1, There has to be a better solution than a lottery. I think that POW should sell half of each remaining print on their web site (with some minor tweaks like more bandwidth and longer shopping cart timeout setting) and then have Laz sell the other half of each print at full market price. This way, if you miss out on a print you can buy from Laz (if you can swing the cash) and get full provenance rather than feed the Ebay cycle of sellers out for a quick profit. I know that if I missed a print, I would feel a lot more comfortable and be willing to pay a premium to get it from Laz over someone I don't know on Ebay. Plus this would force ebay sellers to compete with the source (Banksy's dealer) at a higher price point. Either that or attach one of those exploding ink cartridges to each print which reads "will activate and destroy print if sold on Ebay within 90 days of purchase" ;D --Jason
I like the ink cartridge idea ;D However the other bit would still bugger POWs servers as there will be the same amount or more of people trying for fewer prints, and a lot of those who don't get them that way won't be able to afford the completely stupid money that constitutes "full market price" these days.
It's a fact that a lot of businesses networks route all their outgoing traffic through the same external IP address, and individual terminals only have their own identity on a local/intranet system. Example: If I post a message to this board from my work PC, and a bloke at the other end of the building posts one from his work PC, the IP addies would show up to the Board Admin as being identical, even tho me and blokey at the other end of the building may not be aware of each other's existence.
I'm crap at thinking up my own ideas, but great at picking other people's to pieces

lots of new prints on sale at POW, by gm on Dec 8, 2006 14:44:19 GMT 1,
Yeah, but I've not had a good browse at POW for several weeks now so there'd be a lot new as far as I'm concerned.

Oh well, I'll have another go later.

Jamie Hewlett ๐ฌ๐ง The Gorillaz โข Tank Girl โข Comic Book, by gm on Nov 4, 2006 21:54:33 GMT 1, The pics have been there for quite a while.
Hewlett was there one day last week (thursday?) flogging copies of the new Gorillaz book.
I didn't go.
If you seriously want to nick any of the panels, do it in the middle of the day and nobody will take any notice.
I'll have a murdoc one, please

Fav POW artist Apart from Mr.B, by gm on Nov 8, 2006 13:36:26 GMT 1, I'd vote, only Mode2 isn't an option
He paints the most wonderful arses I have ever seen.
Unfortunately, most of his stuff's not exactly child-friendly

stocking filler, by gm on Nov 7, 2006 13:28:17 GMT 1, Not particularly a print, but perhaps a set of postcards or even a calendar showcasing the work of some of the other POW artists.
Something really mass produced and really cheap.
Last year just about everyone got ยฃ5 packets of B****y stickers from SG inside their cards as presents from me. Everyone was very happy with them.
If I could send out ยฃ5 sets of postcards this year I'm pretty sure everyone would be equally happy.

The other 400 prints, by gm on Oct 7, 2006 17:02:46 GMT 1,
Twilight zone moment! I was just thinking that if Gary Larsen went on hols for a week the images on the new Banksy prints would make an acceptable substitute to fill his corner of the newspaper.
Mainly just curiosity. In my (real life) experience the people who say "why didn't you get it when POW were selling them for peanuts?" are without fail single men with no children, who fail to take account that some people's wages are spoken for as soon as they go into the bank.
You don't have to justify yourself to me (or anyone else, I imagine) for having been able to get the prints you wanted. Why on earth would you feel guilty? Who's making you feel guilty? Guilty of what? If you're saying that I'm getting 'bent out of shape' because there were a few prints that I wanted but never got at the time you're way off the mark.
You can count the banksy prints I own on one hand. And I love every one of them to pieces. So what if I never managed to get every one that I wanted? That's life. Maybe there's one or two regrets, but nothing that's eating away at me.
Scalpers? If nobody was mug enough to pay their inflated prices, they would have to lower the prices.
Unlimited runs? Bring it on.
Or perhaps a limited edition for the "collectors" and a hugely less limited one for the "fans" would be the answer.
All fans are not necessarily collectors.
All collectors are not necessarily fans.
Brings back memories of winding up rabid fanboys at sci fi conventions by buying limited edition action figures, taking them out of their packaging and (shock horror) playing with them!

You can't generalize like that. I think it was ยฃ40 that POW were selling unsigned GWBs for a couple of years ago. ยฃ40 was a coat for one of my children, or a pair of shoes for each of them, or half the weekly shopping bill, so I had to leave the pretty picture. And then it was gone. It's only in the past year/18 months that I've had the occasional spare bit of cash to treat myself with, and I know I'm far from being the only person in that position.
Just out of curiosity, are you a male with no children?

At least with the POW pricing how they do it now everyone gets the same chance of getting one. Raise the minimum to ยฃ500 and there's gonna be a heck of a lot of "true fans" who'll never be able to afford one again. The profiteers will be laughing tho.

What's the point of that? Where's the change? Surely a nice little shopfront with a window and an open door would encourage passing trade, and people who don't look at the www might make some interesting discoveries that they wouldn't otherwise.

The other 400 prints, by gm on Sept 29, 2006 8:42:26 GMT 1, So when go you think POW will have them up for sale... next couple of weeks or just before xmas???
From POW:
That's when I reckon.
However, it's "the end of the month" now.
I suppose they didn't specify which month, tho... *shrug*
I wanna know what happened to the Banksy interview: "Coming September 2006".
*Edit: Could some kind person who's on the POW mailing list please let me know if they hear anything? I thought I was on the mailing list but I've never received anything resembling a mail from them

POW Shipping Charges, by gm on Sept 28, 2006 11:04:07 GMT 1, The UK Post Office has recently started charging by size as well as weight now, so an empty postal tube that cost [whatever it was] to send a month ago will probably cost double that now. Factor in the increased charges for weight too...
Still cheaper than couriers.

new POW newsletter, by gm on Sept 22, 2006 7:03:15 GMT 1, I haven't seen any mailout, but noticed their news page had been updated with the info yesterday aftenoon.
They mention a POW gallery opening soon. I reckon if we see any new Banksy prints then that is where we'll be seeing them.
But I'm gonna keep checking the website anyway...
