Dran • Artist Discussion, by mehor on Mar 21, 2018 9:19:24 GMT 1, Does anybody know where the Monmatre Pieces (actually the ones displayed) went to? I know trough IG a few....but e.g. the pills one? This and the von Gogh were fantastic.
regarding Dran: His talent is tremendous, his management the opposite. but shall we expect different? Kaws has the whole marketing machinery and probably mgt behind him. for me, this is not desirable. i like artist who are artist because they have passion for art. some have passion for becoming famous and making big bucks. i understand this way and it is ok. but i love the other artist.....

Dran • Artist Discussion, by Shoot Again on Mar 21, 2018 10:33:46 GMT 1, Gilles, are you sure the spray was added because they could not sell the prints at 1500E? I believe not because i was offered it right away and as far as i am concerned they were all already sprayed. But again... i am naive. I'm sorry I so much disagree with you my dear friend regarding the quality of his recent works being stronger than earlier ;-) I mean come on, you can't seriously compare those boxes (that he cleverly decided to add to the print offered originally by itself but wouldn't sell at the asking price !) to some of the paintings that we both know of ?!? ;-) Peace I think you might be (naive) indeed on that one. I'm NOT 100% sure as I've had no interest whatsoever for the print (and the box) myself but I hold the information from a much more reliable source than I am myself ;-)

Dran • Artist Discussion, by microfluo on Mar 21, 2018 22:02:25 GMT 1, Hi there every dran's lovers and collectors,
First of all congrats to every buyers of the print who enjoy theirs purchase and enjoy the sprayed box they've got along.
@vtrapenard your boxes is wonderfull, did you notice the little rat able to eat some cheese around the cats surrounding? Lovely box IMO. @coach you're right, Palais de Tokyo style...dark and powerfull! Straight from his mind to the spray bottle. No detour!
charlesrn this box show a redundant subject in dran's work and it's duality/bi-polarity. Just wonder why the two rabbits are crying. Sad isn't? But you've got to accept the dark side of dran's work to fully understand it.
Pawel the style a lot of people would love of him. Simple and wall friendly. Very decorative. It's really nice but i personaly expect much more of a dran's work. Nice pick up anyway
@yaya be carefull you could become quickly addicted !!!
To add my personnal opinion to the discussion and all the messages stated above, i must say that i agree with a bit of everyone personal opinions.
I agree with shootagain when he express his personal opinion about dran actual "management" and, as i am, had no interest for this print at all. Mehor was going the same way. But shootagain you've been following his work for years and you own some great originals... so it is normal that you're becoming more and more demanding about his new work...it's normal when you eat caviar daliy that lumpfish roe doesn't thave the same taste for you. But doesn't mean it's not tasty somehow ! And mate it is the same feeling for every long collectors owning a lot of his work. So lot of them understand your feelings. But i disagree when you said that his actual work has worsen through the years (and the "shitty" episod you've got at Montmartre show the contrary, a nice episod of the caca story started some 10 years ago)...it's simply different...his style is changing...During his yound days he was doing a lot of studies before finishing the final piece. Now his hands are left alone painting straight on the medium. At the start we've seen some awefull results, but it has allways been the same with him, some poor paintings amongst some incredible gems...and IMO it may end up with some of his best period ever seen. As i dran collector and lover i really think it might end that way. And every artist painting the same stuff or style again and again and again just because it's bankable...so boring at the end. I much prefer to be surpised even if not the way i expected to be.
Look at Picasso and the countless artistics periods marked in his carrer. The "young days", the "blue", the "pink", the "cube", the "secluded",... and i forget alot...i think some day dran will be studied that way. Some are better ,stronger or more valuable. But every got something to say somehow for the one really interested in an artist work.
Now to respond the ones stating about a professional management or gallery represting him, let me just say that i totally agree with all of you....but only for some public acknowledgement of his work or if you are speculating with an incredible increase in value of your "investment"!!! But the guy simply doesn't give a simple shit for this. I've witnessed myself mails from some of the most renewed galleries in the world asking to set solo show (As Jonathan Levine gallery for exemple in the US). The guy simply didn't give a shit"ty". He seems to be happy that way. Enough to have a living and enjoying every day as it comes. He is clearly different, that's a fact ! And to speak the truth, it's already so expensive to buy his work...imagine if his cote skyrocket because a professional management or marketing machine behind... Then poor fellow like me won't be able to add any new pieces to the collection. So sellfishly i don't mind his "career" as i don't intend to sale anything ! And don't buy dran if you intend immediate profits, you'll loose your pants. Your kids will thanks you once you'll longs be gone !
Once again sorry for the broken english of the message written, it's difficult for a french native speaker like me to express his toughts if not his native language and moreover surrounded with emotions!
Best to all.
Regards

Now to respond the ones stating about a professional management or gallery represting him, let me just say that i totally agree with all of you....but only for some public acknowledgement of his work or if you are speculating with an incredible increase in value of your "investment"!!! But the guy simply doesn't give a simples**t for this. I've witnessed myself mails from some of the most renewed galleries in the world asking to set solo show (As Jonathan Levine gallery for exemple in the US). The guy simply didn't give as**t"ty". Regards
I think he doesn’t need to do anything, he does what he wants and if you don’t like it you can fuck off in his eyes.
His rules not yours.
I like his attitude and his art. Refreshing really
Hi there every dran's lovers and collectors, First of all congrats to every buyers of the print who enjoy theirs purchase and enjoy the sprayed box they've got along. Nice pick up anyway @yaya be carefull you could become quickly addicted !!! Dran • Artist Discussion, by microfluo on Mar 21, 2018 23:10:01 GMT 1, You don't have to tell me. For me as long as I see some nice new pieces by time to time I'm happy. If I can get a new piece speaking to my heart, I'm happy...however or from whoever I get it! I never tried to set rules or anything. Rules are for society or jail. I think I can't express my thoughts the way I want in English. I can't even hardly understand myself when I read what I written above...red wine doesn't help either!

Dran • Artist Discussion, by Lroy on Mar 22, 2018 9:43:28 GMT 1, Wondering when / if Dran will have the recognition he deserves, if ever really. But my God such raw talent. Its insane. Will depend on how many junkies and useless "friends" he will decide to rely on to help develop his career... Not much progress achieved over years I'm sorry to say ... actually has worsen for sure recently unfortunately ... Several of you know that @doretdesang aka Huguette blocked me for a pair of stickers. Lol ! If we rally think to that it's silly ! How to keep the prints then ? If you don't like the artist/agent that does not like you.. Anyway, I reckon that I like Dran ( but can't order then and don't know the news ) ... I never use here or elswhere doublspeak, but It is not with this kind - I don't care too in fact that he does not care of people, friends, not friends, ertc, etc... that he has his own character - we have all own - but I think that it is easy for an artist to play with this card of contempt when you know that there is a lot of fan, supply and demand etc, etc... To resume, why to buy to an artist that don't like you ? I won't ( per example in another context - no comparizon here, of course ! - I won't never buy music or prints from an artist that is from an extrem right side , national front, etc..., even if it is a great artwork... It is the same " debate " at the moment, about bertrand Cantat ( anyway I never like Noir Desir that were for me copycats ) : should I stay or should i go ( to his concerts ) ?
Just saying, speaking ( I even don't know if I think what I'm writing ) , I won't make my Murke vs banksy on this thread, vs Dran..
Well, to answer to my friends here, I am a bit agree with Shootagain, there is a bit of redundancy somtimes, and I wonder if a big book signed or not, with all his artworks until now, won't be a great moment of art, etc... Monography we say ?
All the best ! ( and don't listen to me, Im a fool )

Dran • Artist Discussion, by Lroy on Mar 22, 2018 9:47:32 GMT 1, If only all disagreements and differences of opinion on here could be conducted in such a gentlemanly manner. Refreshing and a pleasure to read. Agree with you mate ! Better than this thread of only 6 pages on the last Banksy artworks where 3/4 of the posts or comments, are " hates, blank attitude, condescendance, behaviour, contempt, etc... But nothing about art. Its a bit why I don't come here often anymore...

Dran • Artist Discussion, by microfluo on Mar 22, 2018 12:42:05 GMT 1, I agree with 99% of what you wrote, the only 1% missing being the part where you're saying that I would have stated that "his actual work has worsen through the years" ;-) I can't remember having said that and if I did I didn't mean it ! I personally love having a little artworks of each of his various periods (it's probably the only artist in my collection for which I've achieved that) and I wouldn't be able to carry on doing so if his prices would sky-rocket, so hopefully you didn't put me in the category of the "speculators looking for a short term profit" ? ;-) I'm fine with his relatively stable pricing, I know already I won't recoup the money I've spent on his artworks (while I'm living) and still hold 95% of what I ever bought from him with very slim chances of selling anything at all (even under massive pressure from my other half !). The only thing that saddens me is that being "surrounded by junky friends supposedly looking out for him and amateur'ish agent who knows nothing about the game" (as I stated) often ends up in bad blood for his followers / fans (like you're being offered a piece at X, to find out it's being sold by his buddy "sous le manteau" for half the price to someone else, and it's then offered again to you 2 weeks later for 2*X by the flipper) ! I mean how rubbish does this look ? Anyway, as everyone said, he can do what the fu*k he wants (and so can we) ! I will just have to carry on constantly arguing with my wife as to why the Hell I keep him on the very top of my list of favorite artists ;-) Thanks for such a nice and interesting reply Shoot Again but i'm not the number 1 fan and don't have any insight. I've just a deep and sincere interest about his work. Lots of collectors out there love dran as i do. And you're surely one of those ! I've been aware of the good vibes sent after Montmartre to the Toulouse area. Top mate!!! So off course i don't consider you as a speculator.
I should know better but to keep my mouth shut...the problem is, as you said, it's coming from the heart/gut
It's like your ,mine or other dran's collection...once you've plonged into his art it's like a virus running through your veins. It's so interesting to follow his life through his paintings. You just want to see the next episod asap
I totally understand your sadness about those rubbish things. I still couldn't understand how some could have end up with bunchfull of canvas after the last show. Even if i was told bla and bla and bla...
And by the way it's heartwarming to see that i'm not the only one constantly arguing with his wife about dran's works getting up to the wall. But they love us and care, and secretly they are maybe a bit jealous that we give love and time for dran than exclusively to her
bye
